The Gryphonian Alliance Overview- Updated to 2166 CE

First Era (2010 - 2030)
Once, the Gryphonic region was simply a stretch of rainforest created by climate-seeding machines in the 2010s. This region was transformed after the devastation of World War Three in the years of 2017 to 2020. The Gryphonian Alliance was one of the first nations to arise from the conflict, founded by the Gryphonian Secession, a large nomadic group of internally displaced Americans who banded together for protection during the war and migrated to the American Midwest. The next few years saw the dismantling of the former world order, replacing it with entirely new borders, nations and politics.

Space Era (2030 - 2100)
Soon after the GA's founding, national leaders set up the representative democratic government that remains to this day. Seeking further global influence, the young nation joined the the West Pacific international alliance in the early 2030s. In 2050, then-UltraPraetor Grylon Kane seeked to expand that influence to the stars, calling for a space program to take Gryphonic astronauts into the solar system, with the settlement of the Moon and Mars becoming a major focus. In the hundred years since then, the Gryphonian Alliance has established permanent colonies on both worlds.

However, progress was followed not longer after by strife.
In the latter half of the 21st century, the Gryphonian Alliance and another country, Megaelitia, burgeoned into superpowers. Their rivalry escalated into the Earthspawn War at the end of the century, leading to millions of deaths and the downfall of Megaelitia.
In 2075, the First Zombie War thoroughly ravaged the Gryphonian Alliance, and it was only the first in a long line of zombie-related pandemics to come.

Alien encounter:

Earthspawn Era (2100 - 2160)
Still reeling from the consequences of the Earthspawn War with Megaelitia, the world of the 22nd century was marred by multiple zombie pandemics, costing the lives of over a billion people in total. The nations of Earth largely ceased expansion into space in order to recover from these shocking losses. Though the Gryphonian Alliance suffered few deaths from the Zombie Wars that would follow, it continued to deal with an overwhelming inflow of international refugees.
Amidst the chaos of the 22nd century, the GA would remain a solid foundation for the world to rely upon as it continued to advance into the future.

New World Era (2160 - Present)
In 2159, the world was hit by the most deadly strain of the zombie virus yet. After a grueling 2 year international effort the pandemic was finally quelled, but not before taking over three billion lives, more than any other single event in human history. The Gryphonian Alliance remained standing as perhaps the only surviving nation with any semblance of stability and took a central role in recovery. In the years that followed, the GA has consolidated many of its fellow nations into territories under its jurisdiction and has posed itself as the prime global power.

Demographics
The GA is home to a wide variety of ethnicities and nationalities. Census data indicates the Gryphonian Alliance is one of the healthier nations of the world, with 68% of citizen deaths resulting of natural causes, and an average lifespan of 95 years.

Geography
The GA stretches across what was once the central United States and part of southern Canada. It contains the former areas of Idaho to Ohio (west to east); from southern Manitoba to New Mexico (north to south.)

The country is divided between seven states, Plasmadius (the capital district), Shivos, Middlemind, Obstell, Chardik, Raexyon, and Kolto.

The capital district of Plasmadius is located in the Midwest and has the largest population.
Plasmadius Prime, the capital, resides where Madison, Wisconsin once sat, near Milwaukee (where Sunar City, the second largest city, now sits.) Gryphonia's third most populous city, Kayos, behind PP and SC, is located in the western Gryphonian Alliance, near what was once Sioux Falls.

Following Plasmadius is Shivos, covering most of the former states of Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan; its largest city is Churindrad (its former largest city, Ankhistan, was devastated by Zombie War I.)

Next is Middlemind which consists of Montana and a bit of Manitoba. Omehe, the former city of Bismarck, is its most prominent city.

It's followed by Obstell, the state which consists of much of Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and the southwestern part of Iowa. Its largest city is Engle City.

Chardik is next, and it consists of Minnesota, North Wisconsin, and the Dakotas with its largest city being Kayos.

The least populous state is Raexyon, which consists of Kansas, Illinois, Missouri and parts of Kentucky and has its largest city at New Omaha. It shares the Gryphonian Rainforest with Plasmadius and Obstell.

The newest state added to the Alliance is Kolto, which goes along the southern border, consisting of parts of Idaho, Utah, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Ohio.

Technology
The GA has rockets that can reach the Moon in a matter of hours, fleets of satellites skimming the rim of the solar system, and probes heading through interstellar space. It maintains a number of permanent, self-sufficient colonies and a bustling mining industry on the Moon, along with several settlements on Mars. Hundreds of Gryphonic mine-bots traverse the asteroid belt, collecting rare minerals and frozen gases for use back on Earth.

Nanotechnology has become ubiquitous: cell-sized machines can be injected into the body to clear blockages and prevent heart attacks, metamorphic clothing can change color and texture to the wearer's desire. Buildings can be constructed in a matter of days, and manufacturing has become extraordinarily cheap.

Electronics technology has improved significantly overall. Inconspicuous cranial implants are common among civilians. Androids like the Ramot series are designed for military usage and currently make up a majority of the GA's armed forces.

In order to power its vast technological advancement, the country has relied on several different energy resources. While the GA was not the first country to discover the method of using sustainable nuclear fusion as an energy source, fusion was first used commercially by Gryphonic energy companies in the 2080s to power homes, and it has since become a primary source of energy for countries around the world.
"Solar cows," massive satellites with kilometers of solar panels designed to take advantage of the sun's vast power, circle in high orbit and beam the energy the energy they collect down to receivers on Earth.
"Volcano plants" also make up a significant portion of the GA's energy production. These vast geothermal facilities work by using the pressurized action of magma seal deep underground to turn turbines and generate electricity.

Military
The Gryphonian armed forces use advanced robots, fighter jets, and tanks. The GA has also developed non-nuclear weapons of great power like the aurentum bombs, the most potent of which can devastate cities, and "Sting Arrows," antimatter warheads that strike at relativistic speeds.

The Government has been working on several classified military projects, including Project Event Horizon, an orbital weapons platform (the existence of which was leaked to the public in the late 2060s), and Project ███ (which is none of your business.)

Goverment Structure
The GA is divided into 7 states, each divided into Metropols of roughly equal population. Each Metropol is controlled by a single parliamentary body of 50 members, elected by electors representing towns/cities in the Metropol. Metropolic parliaments vote on a Representative to the state's House of Representatives. The federal level consists of an High Court (consisting of 7 judges), an Executive Cadre (presided over by the UltraPraetor), and the Federal Senate.

The Senate is composed of representatives from each state based on population, and are voted upon by each state's House of Representatives. The Senate proposes bills which pass through the UltraPraetor and the High Court before becoming law.
The High Court is selected by the UltraPraetor and passed by the Senate. It makes sure new federal laws are lawful and acts as the highest appellate court.
The Executive Cadre consists of the UltraPraetor and the Cabinet, consisting of the Prime Secretarians, which oversee the federal departments: Agriculture, Environment, Commerce, Interspace Activities, Defense, Education, Energy, Human Services, Gryphonian Security, Labor, Transportation, and Treasury. It also includes the Federal Attorney. The Prime Secretarians are chosen by the UP with High Court approval. They advise the president on various matters and the passage of bills, along with presiding over their individual federal departments. The UltraPraetor's job is to pass or veto bills sent from the Senate and to manage war efforts with the oversight of the Cabinet.
