The Gendarmerie Nationale is the Republic of Martenyika's quasi-civilian national law enforcement consortium, comprising the regular Gendarmerie and Maritime Gendarmerie as the two main branches. Although similar in function, the military's own Gendarmerie is not considered part of the Gendarmerie Nationale and falls under the banner of the Defense Forces. Its jurisdictions cover most of the nation geographically, focusing primarily on rural areas, waterways, and small towns. The Gendarmerie also maintains at least one barracks within every Martenyikan city. There are approximately 17,600 people in the Gendarmerie as a whole.

Although not expressly subservient to the Ministry of Defense or Martenyikan Defense Forces during peacetime, unlike the Military Gendarmerie, the Gendarmerie Nationale is still considered a paramilitary force. It's terminology, regulations, equipment, etc. more closely align with the military compared to regular civilian police forces. For instance Gendarmerie posts are referred to as "barracks," and the Gendarmerie has much better access to modernized weapons and other equipment. This allows the Gendarmerie to address cases and incidents with heightened danger such as piracy and organized crime better than local law enforcement. In October of 2020 Gendarme tactical teams were among the first to respond to alarms at the Royal Mint in Kessa believing it to be a heist attempt (apparent false alarm).

The Gendarmerie Nationale is capable of acting in high intensity situations, but under normal day-to-day circumstances they might supplement more localized law enforcement entities, especially outside of major urban areas.

The Wildland Ranger Corps (WRC) is a branch of the Gendarmerie tasked with protecting and preserving Martenyika's natural areas. Rangers are responsible for the enforcement of wildlife and conservation-related laws, especially poaching, which is a persistent issue on the nation's savannas and other prized habitats. Aside from law enforcement duties, Wildland Rangers are also crucial in the spotting, fighting, and ultimate prevention of forest fires, education on flora and fauna, as well as preservation and restoration of the same. In April of 2022, the WRC announced the landmark launch of a 10-strong female ranger team often referred to as "Team Cheetah." As of July 2022, part of the team was involved in the so-called "Battle of Kambowe" against a large and well-armed poaching group, which resulted in the death of the team's first leader Nadia Etémé.
