The Empire of Sagami is a tiny, efficient nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape, compulsory military service, and irreverence towards religion. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 14 million Sagamians are effectively ruled by a group of massive corporations, who run for political office and provide their well-off citizens with world-class goods and services. Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The tiny, pro-business government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Education. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 5.8%.

The thriving Sagamian economy, worth 1.06 trillion Dollars a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Uranium Mining industry, with major contributions from Gambling, Information Technology, and Automobile Manufacturing. Average income is 75,679 Dollars, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 258,049 per year while the poor average 16,340, a ratio of 15.8 to 1.

Coffee-addicted citizens look forward to baristas getting their name wrong at local coffee shops, convicted criminals are given free limo rides to jail, same-sex marriages are increasingly common, and citizens must pay to enjoy Sagami's pristine beaches. Crime is moderate, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Sagami's national animal is the turtle, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to heavy metals seepage into national waterways.

Sagami is ranked 180,676th in the world and 8,575th in the Pacific for Highest Poor Incomes, with 16,340.69 Standard Monetary Units.
