Our Capital: Vladivostok

Русские is an old nation with long history, with cities that is more than a thousand years old. Cities considered not only important to our history, but to our culture. Cities that are not only famous, that are legendary.

It is not surprising that there are protests when we move our capital to a city that is less than 200 years old, Vladivostok.

Vladivostok was chosen because of our modern pivot:
1) To Pacific
2) To international trade
3) To the sea

The development of our Pacific regions are lacking. Too many resources, energy, and time spend on our European regions. Not anymore. Vladivostok, the industrial and bureaucratic hub in Pacific is a new focus point for the government. The sprawling, energic city with 1 million citizens is the new capital of Soviet Terran.

History before the Republic
Two hundred years ago, before becoming a Soviet city, Vladivostok was only a small trading post, guarded by a small fortress and a small fisherman ports at the southern tip of the Golden Horn Peninsula. Русские got Vladivostok together with the whole areas South of Black Dragon River from the ancient, but severely weakened Growlboast state. From then on, Русские fortified the trading post, connecting it with trains. Other than trains, Русские also built a large port, complete with shipyard.

The war with Sunrise Empire highlight the importance of Vladivostok. Sunrise Fleet managed to bombard the fortress, humiliated the Русский Empire. When the city itself was threatened by the Sunrise Army, the Русский Empire was forced to ask for peace. Such humiliation had to be endured by Русские, igniting a revolt a year later. Started in many cities, including Vladivostok, the imperial Army and police had to be send to quell them. They actually felt the same way, and joined the rebels. The Emperor realized that he was overwhelmed. He abdicated, giving the throne to the council, the Soviet. After that, the Emperor exiled himself to a small island in Mediterranean.

Thus the 500 years Русский Empire was fallen, replaced by the new Armed Republic of Soviet Terran, eager for revenge. Thus Vladivostok played an integral part on the creation of the Armed Republic of Soviet Terran.

History during the Republic
The new Republic escaped almost untouched from the Great war that engulfed Europe shortly after the fall of Русский Empire.Русские knew exactly that the great war would only weakened our nation further. After escaping the war, the great rebuilding began. Русские changing course from tradition of the Русский Empire that always focuses on agriculture. The Armed Republic put emphasis on education, science, trade and industry instead. All for rebuilding the nation. All for vengeance. Vladivostok played an important role here, as the place to rebuild the navy, together with its neigboring cities: Fokino, Nakhodka, and Provideniya. Shipyards in those cities churning ships after ships, perfecting the skill to build modern ship, creating a reputation of Русские as shipbuilders.

After 40 years of intense preparation, the Русский Nation was ready. The shipyards have finished 7 gigantic battleships that dwarfed even "the dream battleship" in the mind of Sunrise most warlike admirals. Vladivostok was turned into a giant fortress and command center. Shortly after the declaration of war, the Sunrise Army in Manchukuo was attacked, and overwhelmed by the Soviet army. Sunrise ports were bombarded from the land, from the sky and from the sea. When the Sunrise navy tried to "pull a Copenhagen", we were ready. Soviet navy ambushed them near the port city of Provideniya. Every single Sunrise Battleships either sunk or captured in that battle, shocking the entire Sunrise nation.

The decimation of Sunrise Navy was followed by the destruction of their Air Force. Soviet Navy and Air Force bombed every single airport and aircraft factories in Sunrise. All was coordinated from Vladivostok. Full blockades followed that. Soviet Navy sunk every single ship around Sunrise Islands. Soviet submarines and aircraft mined every single straits in Sunrise Islands creating food shortage. Soviet bombers rains Sunrise cities with napalm bombs. Soviet gargantuan battleships even shelled Sunrise cities as we like, striking terror on every Sunrise citizen.

This forced the unthinkable: the surrender of Sunrise nation in the Treaty of Vladivostok. Sunrise nation was absorbed by Soviet Terran, now renamed as "The Autonomous Province of Sunrise".

Geography, Environment
The city is located in the southern extremity of Golden Horn Peninsula, which is about 30 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide.

The highest point is Mount Kholodilnik, 257 meters. Eagle's Nest Hill is often called the highest point of the city; but, with a height of only 199 meters, or 214 meters according to other sources, it is the highest point of the downtown area, but not of the whole city.

Vladivostok has a monsoon influenced humid continental climate (Köppen climate classification Dwb) with warm, humid and rainy summers and cold, dry winters. Owing to the influence of the Siberian High, winters are far colder than a latitude of 43 degrees north should warrant given its low elevation and coastal location, with a January average of −12.3 °C (9.9 °F). Since the maritime influence is strong in summer, this results in a relatively cold annual climate given said location. Vladivostok's yearly mean of around 5 °C (41 °F) is some ten degrees lower than in cities on the French Riviera on a similar coastal latitude in Europe on the other extreme. Winters especially are around 20 °C colder than on the mildest coastlines this far north.

In winter, temperatures can drop below −20 °C while mild spells of weather can raise daytime temperatures above freezing. The average monthly precipitation, mainly in the form of snow, is around 18.5 millimeters from December to March. Snow is common during winter, but individual snowfalls are light, with a maximum snow depth of only 5 centimeters (2.0 in) in January. During winter, clear sunny days are common.

Summers are warm, humid and rainy, due to the East Asian monsoon. The warmest month is August, with an average temperature of +19.8 °C. Vladivostok receives most of its precipitation during the summer months, and most summer days see some rainfall. Cloudy days are fairly common and because of the frequent rainfall, humidity is high, on average about 90% from June to August.

On average, Vladivostok receives 840 millimeters per year, but the driest year was 1943, when 418 millimeters of precipitation fell, and the wettest was 1974, with 1,272 millimeters of precipitation. The winter months from December to March are dry, and in some years they have seen no measurable precipitation at all. Extremes range from −31.4 °C in January 1931 to +33.6 °Cin July 1939.

Local ecologists from the Ecocenter organization have claimed that much of Vladivostok's suburbs are polluted and that living in them can be classified as a health hazard. The pollution has a number of causes, according to Ecocenter geo-chemical expert Sergey Shlykov. Vladivostok has about eighty industrial sites, which may not be many compared to Soviet's most industrialized areas, but those around the city are particularly environmentally unfriendly, such as shipbuilding and repairing, and power stations. In addition, Vladivostok has a particularly vulnerable geography which compounds the effect of the pollution. Winds cannot clear pollution from some of the most densely populated areas around the Pervaya and Vtoraya Rechka as they sit in basins which the winds blow over. In addition, there is little snow in winter and no leaves or grass to catch the dust to make it settle down.

Economy
The city main industries are Automobile imports, Defense, Shipping, Fishing, Tourism, and bureaucracy. Previously, the HQ of Soviet Pacific Fleet was located here, but recently has been moved to Makarovgrad.

The city functioned as the main hub for automobile imports. The automobile imports traffic is so heavy that most other import products have to used Nakhodka port. Besides salesmen, this industry employs repairmen, fitters, import clerks as well as shipping and railway companies.

The shipyard and tank factory also created thousands of jobs in Vladivostok, together with the ministries and departments after it became the capital.

A new source of income is tourism. By designating the Russky Island on the South of Vladivostok as international resort, and revitalizing many museums in the city, the government hope to attract more tourists than ever. A warm winter also helps.
