The Imperial Enclave of Tarazed

The Imperial Enclave of Tarazed, commonly called Tarazed and the T.I.E, is an Imperial Enclave which controls the moon of Tarazedia Prime in the Epsilon Reticuli star system. Tarazedia Prime is a class 12 world (i.e. Earth is a class 8 world and Mars is a class 4 world) which has a surface area of 576 million square kilometres (300 million square kilometres of which is land) and has an estimated population of around 1.5 billion people. Tarazedia Prime comprises of dozens of large islands with two super-continents at the poles – all of which are settled in one form or another. It is the largest of seventy-five moons of Epsilon Reticuli Ab.

Tarazed has the potential to be a major player on the galactic stage, with its powerful economy and leading scientific advancements in all fields – giving it a distinct advantage over other civilisations. Despite this, its people prefer an isolationist presence; rarely leaving their new home system of Tarazedia except when they seek to gain material not available in their home system. Military involvement is almost non-existent, despite a large star fleet.

Etymology

Derived from the Latin term: Humerus Vulturis (the eagle's shoulder), Tarazed was named after a star in the constellation of Aquila which is located around 395 light years from Earth. This name was chosen because during the rebuilding process following the war which led to Tarazed’s unification, it was this star which was almost always visible to the people of what would become Tarazed. As such, this star urged them on with many poets during the time referring to it as 'the one constant'.

The standard way to refer to a citizen of Tarazed is as a "Tarazedian."

History

Tarazed on Earth

On Earth, Tarazed was a superpower in every sense of the word; they had a sizeable and well-trained military, an empowering economy and leading scientific advancements; their history is dominated by their impressive colonial empire which covered almost one quarter of Earth’s surface at its height in 1840 CE.
The decline of the Tarazedian Empire began in 1841 CE when the governing administration of the Empire permitted the release of Tarazedian-Controlled Mexico following a public referendum on the issue; thereby starting a political movement which resulted in the nation becoming a technocracy in 1912. By 1925, Tarazed had voluntarily released the majority of its overseas colonies and in the years after 1950 Tarazedian influence began to decline in its holdings in mainland Asia; with Tarazedian governance of those areas ceasing in 1965 following a public vote.
Tarazedian New Zealand was the last major colony to gain independence, doing so in 1990, with the Tarazedian nation consisting of the Tarazedian homeland, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and several smaller islands across the Pacific Ocean.
Despite its territorial losses, Tarazed remained a global superpower; retaining vast influence in many international organisations. It often committed its military to assist with natural disasters and ensure law and order was maintained in warzones – often acting as peacekeepers in overseas conflicts.

The Tarazedian Exodus

In the shortly after the turn of the 20th Century, a Tarazedian Antarctic expedition unearthed an alien device beneath the McMurdo Glacier after investigating a series of earthquakes in the area beneath the ice. The discovery of the ring-shaped alien “Gateway” (as it came to be known) and various associated artefacts were quickly classified, with everything that had been recovered sent to the recently completed Site 31 in the mountains of the Tarazedian heartland.
It wasn't for another ten months before the purpose of the ring was discovered by a brilliant team of Tarazedian scientists, linguists and engineers. The ruling theory quickly became a postulation that the ring was in fact a gateway between two locations in space, all that remained was to test this theory; a process which would take years of programming, translating and calculating.
The first proper activation of the gateway occurred on the 18th of January 1970, where a series of probes were launched to survey the location beyond the confirmed gateway connection.
The probes emerged in a lush woodland area on a world (designated P3X-403 by the Tarazedian computers that calculated the gateway connection) and confirmed the presence of seven new elements, extra-terrestrial life and that there was a whole plethora of gateway destinations.
This mission cemented the importance of Project Gateway and Site 31, which began manned expeditions through the gateways in 1973. Gateway usage continued to the late 2020s - with several thousand destinations being charted and potentially tens of thousands still to be charted, remaining highly classified despite numerous close calls with the Tarazedian media and international curiosity at what purpose Site 31 actually served as the site had an annual budget of over 5.4 billion meritums to run despite having no official purpose other than weapons research.
The major snags began to appear on the issue of integrating the discovered technologies and elements into the general population – as even the most optimistic simulations predicted global mass panics and rioting if the program’s findings were declassified. After meeting with a handful of world leaders, the general consensus was that such an announcement would be catastrophic.
With the eruption of Yellowstone, activation of the MODI-01 supercomputer AI and the onslaught of the Yellow Dust Virus, the Tarazedian nation faced obliteration if no action was taken.
As such, the Tarazedian government came up with a solution. They wagered that their own populace would be able to digest the information and as such began planning for a mass re-location of the Tarazedian people under the guise of a major reactor failure so that the other nations would not be put at risk.
On the 14th of August 2032, Tarazed suffered a complete communications blackout – all connections to the outside world were severed and at 3PM local time, Director Damion White announced the activities of the Gateway program to the general public. Over the next few hours, several riots occurred in Tarazedian city centres but were extinguished soon after they began; the population was then transferred to Tarazedia Prime via mass teleport – a technology procured through Gateway explorations.
Following the Exodus of the population, all sensitive materials were either destroyed or transferred to Tarazedia Prime. The existence of Project Gateway is still not public knowledge to many nations of Earth.

Tarazedia

Upon the population’s arrival on Tarazedia Prime, order was quickly restored and the first major settlement sites chosen. Once a general consensus was reached, construction of the new megacities to house the bulk of the population before the expansion out into the rest of the planet began in earnest.
The leap in technology became immediately apparent to the population, what would have normally taken months to construct was completed in hours as large skyscrapers rose from the ground – constructed by nano-robots. Less than a day after the population had arrived a fully cohesive supply chain had been erected and over an eighth of the population had been moved into permanent housing.
As the nano-robots continued to fabricate the new cities, additional sites were selected for further settlement and over the next few weeks the entire Tarazedian Population had been resettled over the surface of Tarazedia Prime and designated a temporary civic duty to quicken the complete restoration to Pre-Exodus life.

Tarazed Today

As of the year 2225, the Tarazedian population has almost tripled in size since the 2050s thanks to fresh birthing subsidies and advanced flash cloning techniques. The average lifespan is currently still being determined as thousands of medical breakthroughs achieved thanks to technology and knowledge recovered via Project Gateway could mean that the average Tarazedian could live to as old as 250.
The Tarazedian Military, as a whole, has remained unchanged throughout the Exodus and its aftermath; various new technologies have been added to improve frontline equipment and gene therapy for military personnel is now seen as mandatory. The Tarazedian Navy has seen rejuvenation in more than once sense; the new space faring vessels such as the X-300, X-400 and the in development X-500 have drawn the navy’s focus spacewardsd. Few vessels patrol the seas of Tarazedia Prime in favour of more vessels in orbit and interstellar space. The Airforce has taken up full-scale production of the X-201 class space interceptors as well as looking into possible improvements for its design. The Tarazedian Ground Forces have changed the least since the Exodus, with most weaponry remaining the same; however more marine forces are now becoming stationed in orbit and off world as the expansion of Tarazed’s space-faring navy continues.
Military Director Octavian Krennus retained his position as Over-Director following a near-unanimous vote of confidence in his abilities. He has since chosen to limit interaction with other races in favour of expanding the Gateway network to other planetary bodies which could be used for further expansion. Krennus was upload to a synthetic consciousness in the late 2050s and continues to serve as the leader of the Imperial Enclave.
Thanks to date recovered from the Ancient Repository, the Imperial Enclave of Tarazed currently holds possession of the most advanced technology in the universe, with this prestigious honour ranging from weaponry to defensive technologies as well as industry and infrastructure technologies. This gap between their technology and tat of their neighbours may widen still as the Tarazedians continue to decode the Repository of the Ancients; widening their understanding of how the universe itself functions.

Geography

Tarazedia Prime, with a total surface area of 576,000,000 kilometers², is made up of eight continents (Fortitudo, Circulus, Connexus, Silva, Conlis, Prudentia and Pratum) and hundreds of smaller islands; although these states are ultimately governed by the central government in Corcillum City, they retain their individual right to govern with devolved powers in healthcare and business subsidies as all other policies are determined by the central government.
Along the planet’s equatorial region lie the three smallest continents (as Tarazedia Prime’s Equator is dominated by the large Circuitio Ocean); Circulus, Connexus and Prudentia. These states provide the majority of the planet's large agricultural output, using the local humid equatorial-sea winds to aid in cultivation as well as a substantial part to the tourism income thanks to the breathtaking views of the natural landscape/vistas. Of these states, Connexus is more commonly known for its lack of fertile land, instead it is home to the Victoria Mesa and Tallon Military base. Prudentia, however, is quite the opposite as the Latus Peninsula provides an abundance of fertile farming land and Circulus is home to the sizeable supercity of Novum Initium.

The planet's northern region is home to the continents of Fortitudo and Conlis. These states are home to the country's megacities of Corcillum, Caelum, Lympha and Scienta respectively (which collectively make up 14.23% of the country's population). Furthermore, these states supply the economic and scientific backbone of the planet, without them, Tarazed would be unable to function as the superpower it has come to be. Many of the large settlements in this area of the country use the Terra Mountain Range as a source of natural protection from attackers and local fauna.

The eastern regions of the planet are rife with archipelagos and large coves, making it ideal for the country's naval centre. As such the state of Silva was nominated for the home of the country's naval headquarters and training ground. The colossal Grande Silva Cove soon became home to the bustling trade city of Bellitudo and, perhaps controversially, Silva Naval Station and the Bellitudo Orbital Elevator.

The south of Tarazedia Prime is home to the bulk of the manufacturing sector and produces a large quantity of the nation's technical exports with the cities of Aquila, Infinita and Lucens playing host to the largest manufacturing sectors in the country. The sizeable continent here (Posterus) contain a vast material wealth which the Tarazedians were quick to make use of.

The climate of Tarazedia Prime varies due to large differences in latitude, and a wide range of geographic features, including mountains and ice tundras in the polar regions. The equatorial regions of the planet are atypical of a coastal tropical region, with varying sessions of humidity and rainfall - although it is classed as humid continental in the northern areas (including the Latus Peninsula).

The polar regions of the planet have a very much alpine and polar climate - with high levels of snowfall and little rainfall. The southern region of Eagle’s Perch has a distinctly tropical climate with the archipelago continent of Eventilatus having rainfall concentrated in the cooler seasons (November to March). Higher-elevated areas (such as the Terra Mountain range which dominates the far eastern regions) have climates which are associated with alpine regions. The climate along the coast of Continent of Fortitudo is akin to that found in the Mediterranean, while central areas in coastal Circulus and Connexus are cool temperate oceanic. The continent of Circulus, on the northern edge of the Tarazedian Prime, is largely woodland and tundra, but with an oceanic climate in the west and a polar/alpine climate in the north.

Demographics

Population

Tarazed has an estimated population of around 1.5 billion people, almost 57% live in urbanized zones and around 28.63% of the total population live in the top ten cities alone. This gives Tarazed an incredibly sporadic population density which is far greater than the average number of people per kilometer² in the major cities and far less than it in areas such as the Latus Peninsula.

Language

Tarazedian is the number one language spoken and the national language although about one fifth of the population speak at least one other language - automatic translators developed at the turn of the 2020s phased out the need for other foreign languages to be taught in schools. Tarazedian is spoken by 98% of the population while other languages (mainly minorities) account for 4% of the population that speak foreign languages as a first language.

Government

As a technocratic state, Tarazed is governed primarily by the Tarazedian Curia (formerly known as the Tarazedian Parliament), which is headquartered within the Tarazedian Senate in Corcillum City. The Curia is made up of nine hundred and twenty publically elected officials with stated expertise in a particular field that is of use to their constituent area. Should the constituents of a particular area no longer desire their elected official in power, they can immediately hold a by-election in that area and choose to either re-elect the member in question or elect a new representative.
Curia members are commonly scientists, engineers, economists and teachers; although anyone with expertise in a particular field can run for a Curia position. Curia elections are held every six years.
Above the Curia, there is an unelected body known as the Quorum. The Quorum consists of the Director (who is appointed by a majority vote within the Curia), a Sub-Director (who is appointed by the Director and then voted in by another Curia vote) and a handful of the best minds in the nation. It is the Quorum’s duty to protect the Tarazedian nation from threats that arise too quickly to deal with via a public vote and to direct the Curia’s duties in the direction that is generally seen to benefit the nation the greatest.

Foreign Relations and Military

Among its neighbors, the Imperial Enclave of Tarazed is considered a sovereign nation and no other governing body has right of oversight into Tarazedian affairs. Despite this, Tarazed is diligently involved in international politics and is an avid participant in the World Assembly.

In 2028, Tarazed was granted an embassy on the Confederacy of Allied States Lower Council, electing Jason Howard as the first Tarzedian ambassador to the CAS who would occupy this seat. Despite this, Tarazed desires a bigger role in regional politics, preferably even a High Council seat. If they get a seat, they can use the High Council's political pull to protect their interests, as well as being acknowledged as one of the senior nations in the CAS. The region knows it is only a matter of time before Tarazed gets a say but many ambassadors believe it should happen sooner rather than later.
Since their exodus to the Tarazedian System, the Imperial Enclave of Tarazed has maintained a strictly isolationist policy; rarely venturing outside of their home system for anything other than resource collection and long range military patrols.

The Tarazedian National Military has respected by its neighbours throughout its history for its novel tactics and technology. Their strength lies in fire support, flexibility, technological know-how and speed. Tarazed's neighbours also regard it as a "sleeping giant" as less than 2% of its populace volunteer for active military service. They make up for low numbers with sophisticated technical support in the form of VIs, drones, artillery, and electronic warfare, and emphasis on mobility and individual initiative. Their military doctrine is not based on absorbing and dishing out heavy shocks, rather, they bypass enemy strong points and launch deep into their rear, cutting supply lines and logistics, destroying headquarters and support units, leaving enemies to "wither on the vine". The current chief of the Tarazedian National Military is General Daniel 'Monty' Montgomery.
When on the defense, the TNM lives by Sun Tzu's maxim, "He who tries to defend everything defends nothing." Only token garrisons are placed on their borders and off world outposts. These are intended for scouting rather than combat, avoiding engagement to observe and report on invaders using drones. However, the TNM stations powerful fleets and quick response ground forces at key tactical nexuses so that in the event of an attack they can respond with overwhelming force.

The Yashni-Andro Corporation and Omega Manufacturing remain key suppliers of the military. All soldiers receive gene therapy for improved strength and stamina for a reduced cost thanks to conditions worked out by the government during the drafting of the TNM charter.

At the time of Tarazed's foundation in 1412 CE, the Tarazed National Navy possessed a navy consisting of over 50 vessels ranging from small seventy meter long frigates to imposing one hundred hundred meter-long superships. By 1938 CE, it was recognized as one of the greater military forces within the Confederacy of Allied States, and the greatest military force in its local waters. As a senior power within the CAS the TNN was free to build and maintain a large number of warships when compared to its more vulnerable neighbours - this allowed the TNN to defend both Tarazed and its allies effectively. The TNN had continued to maintain its naval airpower with the deployment of carriers, which are the largest vessels they built. The TNN was formerly headquartered at Ferentus Station in the strategically invaluable New Fargate Cove, which contained several primary shipping lanes that link Tarazed to other major countries in the region. Tarazed's Surface Navy is currently commanded by Fleet Admiral Jeremy Hudson.
Thanks to technology attained via the Gateway program; especially that recovered via the Repository of the Ancients, the Tarazedian military quickly began production of space-faring combat vessels upon the mass settlement of Tarazedia Prime. Tarazedian Military Technology far outstrips that of its interstellar rivals as vessel classes such as the X-402 and the now under development X-500 make use of the most advanced offensive and defensive technologies in the known universe.

The Imperial Enclave of Tarazed is an example of an efficient socio-capitalist economy, its powerhouse of an economy is pulled along by a cooperating public sector and and even stronger private sector. The average income tax rate is around 60% with the private sector being led by the Information Technology/Scientific industry, followed the Starship Production Sector and the Tourism Industry. Strong ties to scientific research facilities and educational establishments ensure that each generation is at the very least more intelligent than the last, ensuring high tech disciplines and jobs become almost completely occupied by Tarazedians instead of the government having to pay for foreign expertise.
Tarazed is a large producer of Naquadah for power stations, as well as Naquadah-Trinium alloys which are a key component in Tarazedian Starship production. Tarazed also produces a sizeable amount of Naqudria – which is a very power explosive and energy source.
With a growing agriculture sector and an equally powerful manufacturing sector, Tarazed faces no shortage of job placements (in the last quarter alone, unemployment fell by 1.3% to a new low of 2.22%).

Culture

Tarazedians are generally seen to be pragmatic, very intelligent, abnormally ambitious, highly adaptable, individualistic and thus, unpredictable. They have a powerful desire to advance and improve themselves, and do so with such assertion that normally staid cultures have been taken aback by their restlessness and relentless curiosity.
Tarazedian society places reasonable value on the arts [mainly drama and theater] however scientific literacy and knowledge are the most sought after and encouraged from an early age. As a result, Tarazed makes up a substantial part of the scientific and other high tech related sectors.
Tarazedian authors and poets are renowned worldwide (more recently they are making headway in the galactic market) and are as plentiful as they come, mainly due to the country's high literacy rate (99.9997%), as such many current best-sellers are written by Tarazedian authors.

Infrastructure

As a market leader; Tarazed utilities many forms of industry; however its manufacturing is led substantially by the high-tech sector. Tarazed makes extensive use of railway lines and subsidizes the use of public transport heavily - primarily to cut its national long term use of the individual automobile and clear the way for a new age of people and goods transportation.
As a result, the majority of people use public transport - be it train or bus - to travel to work, whereas those who still use cars use green hybrids or even cycle to their destination.
Tarazedians are also seeing increasing efficiency in effectively every industrial sector following the successful introduction of artificial intelligence into everyday networks as AIs help manage cities, power plants, freight transport systems and even public commerce routes. This has led to an exponential increase in productivity nationwide and is fuelling daring scientific projects into the unknown.

Energy

Tarazed produces the vast majority of its power through green energy (nuclear energy produces the vast majority of the nation's power needs with dozens of nuclear-fusion based power plants and several naquadah-based power plants currently in use. The use of hydro-electric damns and solar power make up a joint second place and wind farms come in at a close third). As such, Tarazed requires no fossil fuels to power its cities, factories and motorways.
