The People's Republic of Zooistan is a massive, genial nation, ruled by Miau Zedong with an iron fist, and remarkable for its daily referendums, state-planned economy, and free-roaming dinosaurs. The compassionate, cynical population of 1.464 billion Zooistanians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The government — a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked, corrupt, socially-minded, well-organized morass — juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Environment. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Purrking. The average income tax rate is 83.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The strong Zooistanian economy, worth 77.9 trillion floras a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient, extremely specialized black market in Information Technology and Book Publishing. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is 53,239 floras, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Light entertainment shows are light on actual entertainment, landless farmers wander forlornly in the government's many national parks, penal labor is a de facto death sentence, and foreign policy often involves bullwhips and leather. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to a very well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Zooistan's national animal is the commie crow, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is State Atheism.

Zooistan is ranked 301,653rd in the world and 940th in The Communist Bloc for Most Advanced Defense Forces, scoring 106.15 on the Total War Preparedness Rating.
