History of The Catt Thess

Early History:

The region of the Catt Thess is storied for its conflict, being at a strategic location on the continent. The tribes in the area enjoyed the exchanges of peoples and trade being located on a bridge between continents and an inland sea. The local tribes of Aren of the west and Cousland of the east have always gotten along and have often commingled and allied themselves as rulers of their respective sides.

Nation States period:

The Aren Tribe grew into a powerful nation station centered around the City of Aren Hill, Which is now called Raven Hill. It often enjoyed the protection of the Chimera mountain range to its west. It prospered greatly until the emergence of the nation state of Altair to the north. From their island in the middle of the Altair sea, they swooped down and raided Aren and sacked the city, which is where it got its new name of Raven Hill after the battle. The battle was costly and the invading army was turned back at a spot now called Hadleys Hope with the aid of their neighbor of Cousland. After the war, Aren and Cousland formally cemented their alliance with marriage, by Princess Arenya to the Arl of Cousland. After a decade spent rebuilding, the two nations built a fleet and proceeded to invade the Island of Altair. This invasion was cut short by growing powers outside and the invasion ended after only a few skirmishes after landing.

Coalition:

For centuries afterward there was always a tense relationship between the three nations as minor disputes would arise. That however would come to an end when a coalition of barbarians invaded Cousland and threatened to sack the previously untouched city Highever. They formed the begining of the Federation of The Catt Thess. Highever sadly was lost and completely razed by the time the Armies from Aren arrived and met the main force of Cousland in nearby Fort Cronkite and pushed out the barbarians after years of war. Vowing this would never happen again the strict military policies of universal service and expansion followed. The new Collation expanded their boundaries and established a series of forts and strongholds throughout the region to stop any further aggression from barbarians who were often referred to as Vandals after the razing.

Federation:

By the year 1600 the collation had grown powerful and set its sights back on Altair, who ruled the sea to the north and dictated much of the trade and hampered fishing as it claimed all the water in the sea. The Coalition of ArenCous started to build another fleet to finish off the invasion it had stopped centuries ago. Altair realized that the war would be costly and not beneficial to them or the region and chose instead to join the Coalition. In doing so the Federation of the Catt Thess was born. The signing was done in the Village of Zeguma Beach. With all three major borders now under control the federation has since looked to protect their various regions. Being at a cross roads has always kept the federation on a defensive footing and looks to never repeat the war of the Vandals.

Post Unification

The years after Federation the Catt Thessians continued to build up and entered a period of rather xenophobic policies. While they didn't exclude outside nations they did not trust them. Given the long history of attacks by outsiders, they often acted as if expecting any nation, no matter how pacifist was going to stab them in the back in the near future. This lead to strained relations with many other nations. This lead to a large buildup of self dependency and military service and the formation of the government seen today where military service is the main requirement for suffrage. It was felt that only those willing to defend the nation should be allowed the privilege to direct its future and policy. This mentality lasted for 200 years and often saw the nation as backwards as it didn't try to expand overseas but stayed to local expansion during the age of imperialism.

A New Direction

In the early 1800's the focus shifted in the nation. While still isolationist, there was a growing trend towards science and innovation. After the discovery of the planetary body, Cerberus, distant in the sky, the nation has been focused on scientific innovation and long has a motto of exploration of the skies been seen around the nation.
