The Democratic Republic of Mountainous Pamirstan was the successor government to the Pamiri SSR and held power in Mountainous Pamirstan for seven years, from 1991 to 1998. The Democratic Republic of Pamirstan was led by Nikolai Karkachev, the former chairman of the Pamiri SSR and much of the former government remained in place, albeit under a different name. Karkachev and his government were toppled in 1998 during the Khorog Revolution.
