Canary Beach SPRINTER

The [b]SPRINTER[/b] is the Canary Beach transit system, owned and managed by the City of Canary Beach. The system is composed of bus services, light rail (SPRINTER) services, and express light rail/commuter (SPRINTER Xpress) services. The system is headed by Director Charlotte A. Wentworth and is headquartered in central Canary Beach.

SPRINTER Buses serve as the backbone of the network and is the primary mode of service in the city. They run in several forms, general service routes, rapid service routes, and express service routes.

[b]General Service Routes[/b]

General Service Routes are designated with just numbers and range from 1 (1-Haithford), up to 58 (58-Patagonia/16th Street). They run with non-articulated buses (except on the busiest routes and during peak hours) and select lines (1-Haithford, 2-Janeiro Boulevard, 3-Champion, 8-Bayessa, 22-Central Connector) run with trolleybuses. 

General Service Routes generally run every 5-10 minutes on the busiest lines but up to 20 minutes on neighborhood lines.

Fares are $2.50 SAD for an adult and $1 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $80 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER (except SPRINTER Xpress) services.

[b]Rapid Service Routes[/b]

Rapid Service Routes are designated with just numbers, followed by the letter "R" and supplement general service routes. There are currently 8 rapid service routes (1R-Haithford Rapid, 2R-Janeiro Rapid, 3R-Champion Rapid, 4R-North End Rapid, 12R-South Janeiro/Airport Rapid, 24R-Frémont Rapid, 25R-Balboa Rapid, 31R-Ashbury Rapid).

Fares are $2.50 SAD for an adult and $1 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $80 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER (except SPRINTER Xpress) services.

[b]Express Service Routes[/b]

Express Service Routes are designated with numbers, followed by the letter "EX" and supplement general and/or rapid service routes. Lettered express service routes are stand-alone services. There are currently 25 express bus service routes that run towards downtown (inbound) in the morning peak hours (5:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) and towards the outer districts (outbound) in the afternoon/evening peak hours (4:00 pm. to 9:00 p.m.). They generally use articulated buses.

Fares are $2.50 SAD for an adult and $1 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $80 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER (except SPRINTER Xpress) services.

The SPRINTER Light Rail is currently composed of two lines, known as the Green Line and the Orange Line. 

[b]Green Line[/b]

The Green line runs down Janeiro Boulevard with many stops along the boulevard to serve the beach area. Service towards Central Canary Beach is "inbound" whereas service towards Oceanside (north) is known as "outbound."

Trains on the line run every 5 minutes during weekday peak hours and 10 minutes during off-peak weekday hours and weekends. Service opens 5:30 a.m. until 1 a.m. everyday. Total average travel time is 55 minutes.

Fares are $2.50 SAD for an adult and $1 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $80 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER (except SPRINTER Xpress) services.

[b]Orange Line[/b]

The Orange line runs down Janeiro Boulevard with many stops along the boulevard to serve the beach area. Service towards Central Canary Beach is "inbound" whereas service towards CNB Airport (southbound) is known as "outbound."

Trains on the line run every 10 minutes during weekday peak hours and 20 minutes during off-peak weekday hours and weekends. Service opens 5 a.m. until 1 a.m. everyday. Total average travel time is 40 minutes.

Fares are $2.50 SAD for an adult and $1 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $80 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER (except SPRINTER Xpress) services.

SPRINTER Xpress services run on the same track and route as SPRINTER Light Rail services but runs on biofuel-powered trains and have two lines: [i]Germain Line[/i] and [i]Airport Line[/i]

[b]Germain Line[/b]

The Germain Line runs on Germain Street, stopping at every stop before turning on Janeiro Boulevard, going north, of which it does not stop on at all. It runs directly to Vista Station before stopping and operating on a select stop service (stopping at San Gabriel, Mendoza, D'Azure, Oceanside). It operates at 30 minute intervals from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. The total average travel time is around 40 minutes. 

Fares are $5 SAD for an adult and $2 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $90 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER and SPRINTER Xpress services.

[b]Airport Line[/b]

The Airport Line runs in the Germain Street Subway, stopping at every stop before turning on Janeiro Boulevard, going south, of which it does not stop at all. It runs directly to its final stop, CNB Airport Station. It operates at 30 minute intervals from 5 a.m. (timing with the time the airport re-opens) until 11 p.m. (timing with the time the airport closes). The total average travel time is around 18 minutes.

Fares are $5 SAD for an adult and $2 SAD for minors under 18/seniors over 60/disabled. The [i]Dolphin[/i] fare card is accepted on all routes. A monthly pass is available for $90 SAD which covers travel on all SPRINTER and SPRINTER Xpress services.
