The Planetary Defense Forces of Orbodus are the most numerous of the three main branches of the Combined Forces. This is due to the fact that each Planetary Defense Force (PDF) is a defensive militia raised from their respective planet and its potential moon(s). PDFs have no interdependence or cooperation with any of the other branches in the Combined Forces and are subsidiary to their planetary governments, who are in turn subsidiary to the federal government. Each PDF has its own ground force and extraterrestrial force, more commonly known as an army and a navy. Both are defense-oriented. PDF armies rely on a lot of anti-air/orbital defense systems and mechanized infantry along with a significant number of armored and artillery support. PDF navies usually consist of large armored warships, small gunboats, and carriers that can deploy large fleets of drone fighters. PDFs follow rules and regulations set for them by their individual planets but also adhere to federal military law and can only follow the former if they coincide with the latter.

PDF armies usually consist of large garrisons of infantry that are transported by a variety of all-terrain vehicles supplemented by support artillery and logistics teams. The mechanized infantry units are trained in both small and large unit tactics and the support artillery is used to greatly supplement their combat effectiveness. The overall mission of these ground units is to defend the planet itself through conventional military means, but are also trained heavily in guerrilla tactics as well as conventional tactics. There are still a variety of heavy armored units in the PDF but they are generally less common than mechanized infantry as it is up to planetary governments how militarized their PDF is and the majority of planetary governments choose not to be as militarized as others. On top of this, most PDF mechanized units use various walker transports as a replacement for dedicated tanks as well. A hallmark of all PDFs, though, is a strong and numerous anti-air/orbital defense system consisting of many laser batteries and anti-orbital targeting cannons.

PDF navies are heavily focused on planetary defense like their army counterparts, but are focused on space combat. For the most part, PDF navies employ large numbers of armored warships that are outfitted with expansive arsenals of laser batteries, automated turrets, missile launchers, and anti-armor cannons. They are usually accompanied by small numbers of gunboats with similar, yet far less, weapons systems. The other main component of PDF navies consist of fighter carriers. These carriers usually have heavier armor but light weapons, though this is rectified due to the vast amount of drone fighters that can be deployed at any time by these carriers.
