The Federal Navy (Main Military Branch)

The Federal Navy

Overview

The Federal Navy of the Combined Forces is the strongest naval power in the galaxy. It is the spacefaring branch in the Combined Forces and is the larger of the two federal branches, but isn't as large as the PDFs of all the planets under Orbodus. The Federal Navy has seniority over the other branches and is the most politically and militarily powerful of the three. The Federal Navy has an academy and a base on every inhabited planet and moon in Orbodus, and each respective academy and base is linked so as graduates from the academy can go on to be stationed at that base and assigned to that base's unit. It is common knowledge that every sub-branch of the Federal Navy works together very well and joint operations between sub-branches are by no means uncommon.

Federal Fleet

The Federal Fleet is the core of the Federal Navy. It encompasses the spaceship element of the navy and is heavily funded. The Federal Fleet is a self-functioning sub-branch but also is the primary provider of logistics and movement of personnel and materiel of the other sub-branches. To restate, the Federal Fleet is still a fully-independent sub-branch of its own and can operate on its own. The Federal Fleet has a massive number of spaceships of varying stripe under its command ranging from gunboats to drone carriers, dreadnoughts to carracks. The Federal Fleet has a wide number of battlegroups operating in it, each with its own variety of ships within. The Federal Fleet also has a wide variety of personnel as well. The Federal Fleet employs crewmen, gunners, engineers, officers, security personnel, maintenance, to name a few. The majority of naval personnel are members of the Federal Fleet.

Federal Marine Corps

The Federal Marine Corps is the general offensive ground-force wing of the Federal Navy and the Combined Forces as a whole. They specialize in naval infantry, mechanized warfare, combined-arms warfare, and are the shock troops of the Combined Forces. The Federal Marine Corps selects from the most proficient combatants that can be found in Orbodus and the naval academies only improve their skills further. Most marines usually stay in the Federal Marine Corps, but those at the top of their class usually go on to SpecWar school in order to qualify for the Federal Naval Special Warfare Command which is the most elite segment of the navy by way of soldiery. Marines are known best for their headstrong and dedicated infantry units, but employ technology such as mech suits; tanks; rotorcopters; artillery; and walkers, many of which are used in joint operations together.

Naval Intelligence Bureau

The Naval Intelligence Bureau is essentially what the name gives away. It is the Federal Navy's intelligence agency and works closely with the Federal Security Council's Agency of Federal Intelligence and Federal Enforcement Bureau. When it comes to naval operations, the Naval Intelligence Bureau usually relies on itself and its own assets rather than working with other sub-branches. This covers intelligence-specific missions, and there have been many, many operations where the bureau has been involved in combined operations with the marines, the fleet, and even FNSWC. The Naval Intelligence Bureau isn't as militarized as any of the other factions, though all of its members are trained in personal defense weapons training. This is due to the fact that it's an intelligence agency and not a traditional military wing. Most of the equipment and personnel the bureau gets for its few combat-specific missions comes from the fleet and the marines. The bureau also often recruits FNSWC to do designated classified missions for them.

Federal Naval Special Warfare Command

The Federal Naval Special Warfare Command, FNSWC, is the special forces arm of the Federal Navy. It is the most elite unit in the entire Federal Navy, and is only second to that of the Federal Secret Service in all of the Combined Forces. FNSWC candidates can only be found from the most elite marine graduates, and even then many of these wash out during FNSWC training. If training is completed, FNSWC operatives are given classified, clandestine missions either assigned to them by the Federal Fleet or the Naval Intelligence Bureau. FNSWC are typically light infantry with some of the greatest training in the galaxy, very rarely does FNSWC utilize anything but small arms, anti-armor weapons, and rotorcopters.
