(SNN - Montarc) - Alcoholism is an issue that seems to plague many people at a time. Numbers of populations all over the world suffer from alcoholism. Many nations in the world suffer from their populations having alcohol abuse. However, the Third Republic of Montarc suffers from alcoholism that is unprecedented to our world. It starts with the age of legal drinking. While the average age of legal drinking in most places is between eighteen and twenty-one, the age of legal drinking in the Third Republic of Montarc is age sixteen, but rarely, kids from ages twelve through fourteen find themselves drinking in a bar. Not only this, but one out of every five people in Montarc are considered borderline to complete alcoholics, and one of three of all cases that Montarcian policemen have to deal with involves drinking in some form or fashion.

Montarcian alcoholism is common all over the Third Republic. However, it is most prominent in Garak, Taradok Province, Montarc. And the problem with alcoholism in Montarc and all over the world is that generally the happiness index isn’t very high, and the police have been more prone to respond to drinking cases instead of murder, robbery, or manslaughter. However, most people are typically too drunk to commit crimes of serious nature, which is good to a certain extent. A big crime committed is driving under the influence (or DUI).

Many are quick to blame the borders of nations to link to drug and alcohol addiction within nations. For example, former Deerfenese president, Donald Rump ran on the promise of stopping drug and alcohol smuggling across the Deerfenese-Govornian border. Before the Creole Union fell, they had been trying to stop drugs and alcohol from reaching the mainland. However, the Third Republic of Montarc's case is different. So far, there has been slight heavy smuggling activities in Montarc, However, in the off-time, you will find alcohol laced with gasoline or other dangerous compounds being smuggled into the nation from any of its borders with Sallent, Vex, or Volstokn.

SNN asked a man from Montarc why he loved alcohol and why he thinks it is very common. He responded “Well, I personally like alcohol because... because life isn’t that fun, and with the daily worries we get from other nations, sometimes... sometimes you just need to get away. Gotta go to that place where everybody knows your name, you know?” SNN also found out that drinking is heavy within University Students because of the pressure of schoolwork, the stress of school, and even social parts. It will be interesting to see how alcoholism will evolve in Montarc.
