Unisychism

Unisychism is the most followed religion in Beatitas, with 490 billion followers. It was founded by the Philosopher-King Išmint in 2750 OC after a decade of meditation. The religion's basis is altruism and belief in reincarnation. The main text of the religion is the Thoughts, which is divided into the Meditations, the Conversations, the Discussions, and the Applications.

The Thoughts
The Meditations

The Meditations is the first book of the Thoughts, and it focuses on the reflections of Išmint during his period in prison. It concerns the state of the world in his day (which had just undergone a civil war), reflections on philosophy to politics and everything in between. It is also personal in some areas, allowing a peak into Išmint's thoughts.

Išmint was initially a soldier for his nation, fighting in the civil war. One day, during close fighting, he came across the enemy. In a moment of hesitation, he stared into the other's eyes. It was then that Išmint learned he could never kill. When the battle was finished, a fellow soldier reported him to a superior, who had Išmint imprisoned for life.

When the period of political instability was over a decade later, the new regime decided to empty the full prisons. Išmint was freed. He built a small cottage in the countryside to live in.

The Conversations

After a day of hard work, Išmint slept. What happened to him then was fundamental to the development of Unisychism. He was in an endless void. There was nothing around him. But at the same time, he felt that the void was not empty, for there was something about it that was not empty. Then there was a voice, the most beautiful he had ever heard. It came from everywhere, even from inside himself. The voice materialized; it was now a being. The voice-being began to sing. How that was he did not know, for it was not through his ears that he listened, but through his soul. But he felt that his soul had a connection with the voice-being. The latter sang, "I am." over and over again.
Išmint, full of wonder and questions, quietly asked, "Who are you?"
The being replied in song, "I am your parent."
"But you do not seem like me, for you seem infinitely more whole than I am."
"True, true, but I am still your parent."
"I remember, though, that I had two parents where I am from."
"You are mistaken, then, for I am your parent. Your life springs forth from me."
"But then who are those who tell me that I am their child?"
"Ah, the answer is quite simple. They are you."
"Pardon?"
"You are they and they are you!"
"Am I the only one with such a parent?"
"Yes."
"But why not everyone else?"
"What do you mean? There is only you."
"Pardon?"
"Every human being who has ever walked upon your Earth is you. All that were, are, and will be are you. The enemy you refused to kill? You! Your prison guard? You! Everyone you meet is a different manifestation of your soul! Thus what you do unto others you do unto yourself! Every good act you do to another is one done unto you, and every time you do harm unto another you do harm unto yourself."
Išmint thought for a very long time. Then he asked, "But what is the purpose of all this then?"
"It is all for you to grow into a Being, like myself, for you are one of my kind, and each one of us is a species that once lived. But for now, you are merely a fetus. You will only be born when every life has been lived."
"So it is only through death that I am born?"
"Precisely."
Išmint then awoke, and wrote the happenings during his dream. He preached it throughout the land, which gained him many followers. It was on that day that Unisychism was born.

The Discussions

The Discussions were written by Išmint after the request of his followers. They encode the principles of Unisychism. Below is a summary of those principles.

  • That which lives, do no harm unto it.

  • That which lives, do good unto it.

  • Love your enemy, your friend, and all that are as you love yourself.

  • All that are, are one Soul.

  • When you die, you are reborn into another life, until all lives are lived.

The Applications

The Applications are a collection of anecdotes and parables that teach the principles of Unisychism, especially in relation to daily life.
