SNN Health - What CD-1, OPV-1, and GIV-1 Taught the World

CD-1, GIV-1, OPV-1; What These Outbreaks Have Taught us

In the past two years, Strangereal has been hit hard by outbreaks which all had the means to kill tens-to-hundreds of millions of people. While only one of these epidemics turned into a major pandemic, over the course of this time, over 771,684,418 people from all corners of the world ended up catching one of these deadly outbreaks and over 90,511,749 people died because of GIV-1, OPV-1, or CD-1. These viruses all had a Mortality Rate of at least 12% meaning that these epidemics were highly deadly and likely highly infectious as they all had at least 20,000 people infected.

GIV-1

GIV-1, unlike the other two viruses on this list, ended up becoming a global pandemic. The virus was highly contagious from its beginning in the 2018 Franshov Olympics until its demise in November of that same year. Its peak saw the most amount of death of any recent epidemic, and unlike the other two pestilences here, its starting spot did not have the most cases. It had several hotspots across the globe including Paxiosolange, Toshavo, the South Falls, Atheenos, Modern Russian Empire, and some other places. Some of the nations other than the ones up top that got hit the hardest included Macau and Hong Kong, Deerfenland, Salfords, Lungha, and all of Fusea.

GIV-1 originated in Paxiosolange, but it was able to spread far because of the large gathering of the 2018 Franshov Winter Olympics. The first confirmed cases of what became GIV-1 were on 19th February 2018 when the training ground was found to have dying athletes. Two of these included a skier from Paxiosolange and a Hockey Goaltender from Deerfenland. Upon more information about the dying athletes, the International Olympic Group suspended the 2018 Winter Olympics. Originally, the plan was to pick back up on the 24th, but it was eventually canceled after more deaths around Olympic Park and the city of Franshov.

Upon the closure of the Olympics, many people headed home which allowed the virus to spread further. With an alarming rate of infections of the GIV-1 Virus, a multitude of governments in Fusea, Usonea and Osea had stated that they would close their
borders. In the hopes of not infecting their populace, several world leaders had ordered a complete lock-down of their nations, amidst the epidemic. However, one of the last nations to do so was the new Republic of Deerfenland who still held sporting events and public gatherings which made room for them to be hit hard. Of their 7 million population, approximately 3.9 million perished of the virus which gave the Deerfenese Outbreak a 55% Mortality Rate. Lungha was another nation hit hard several Lunghan politicians died from that virus. In fact, approximately 46% of all deaths were in Lungha at one point in time. Afterward, Safe Zones were placed around the globe especially in developing nations.

Mass graves, safe zones, protective clothing, and martial law eventually emerged. Eventually, Corsythia drugs were able to be found to show signs of immunity to GIV-1. From that point on, people were eventually able to get a grasp on the virus, and in November, it was completely eradicated. In June of that same year, the risk of the pandemic slowed down and many nations opened up their borders once again.

CD-1

CD-1 was more of an Osean-Bound virus. It started in the Anglo-Saxon Commonwealth with an estimated 40,000 cases with 5,000 deaths. However, eventually, these cases multiplied and some of those infected traveled off into Toshavo, the Imperium of Steve, Lorigia, Pandoska, Lungha, Deerfenland, and some even went down south. However, the approach to this disease was nothing short of tragic. Pandoska and the German Holy Roman Empire firebombed major cities for their infection numbers with CD-1. This resulted in deaths from the virus, the bombings, and the destruction of a city. The German Holy Roman Empire leader released this statement on the containment measures of the virus.

”My Fellow Holy Romans, we face a great travesty in the Anglo-Saxon Commonwealth. The seas of Warfare has reached their lands as the great collapse has brought their proud nation down to dust. Now with the infectious and violent hordes and the numerous rebel groups, we need the world’s help more than ever. This could have the possibility to be even worse than the GIV-1 Outbreak that Killed so many years ago. The morale of the Commonwealth is low as now foreign powers such as the GHRE or Pandoska have had to take direct control over their government to save those in affected by this horrible virus or the ensuing rebel organizations that plague the Lands. I swear by my oath to Emperor Lütbek I and God himself that we will liberate the ASC from this curse and return the nation to its former glory.”

The virus did not end there. Lorigia immediately ended up contracting a strain of the deadly CD-1 virus. Immediately, the Osean League placed Lorigia under quarantine before sending aid. The infected were coughing dark red blood and getting boils on the skin mimicking the plague. Across the rest of Osea, Mzeusia, Greater Danish Order, and Deerfenland each gained cases of the deadly CD-1 virus. However, limited deaths were in each. In Lorigia, however, dead bodies, whether they were shot and killed or they died from the disease, were thrown into rivers and streams that eventually led to the Ceres Ocean.

When the dust had settled, 2.5 million people in Osea (not counting the Anglo-Saxon Commonwealth) perished due to the disease and the brutal murders of the infected. All-in-all, this virus was not as deadly as the containment measures taken.

OPV-1

OPV-1 was the most deadly virus in terms of Mortality Rate. The virus had a five-month reign of terror killing 60% of its victims. However, it is also the epidemic with the least amount of infections. With just over 2.5 million infections and slightly over 1.5 million deaths, this virus infected the least amount of people ranging in some remote corners. While the biggest percentage of cases happened in the Central Osean Republic but also spread to Lorigia, Jenovah, Xiangshu Shi, Kronica, Angshire, Tonga, United Tefuna, and several tribes. In other words, there were 2.5 million cases in disclosed countries, but then a further 12 million cases throughout native tribes. Of those 12 million, 8 million died. Outside of regular countries, 66% of those who caught the disease died meaning that all-in-all, the virus had a 67% Mortality Rate.

The virus originated in a lake in Central Osea. When contact with the water is made, a parasite is released onto the body and that parasite harbours a deadly virus and unleashes it as soon is it able to find entrances through the nose, ears, eyes, or mouth as well as any cuts or bruises. Promptly, the virus spreads through the body killing the victim in two-to-seven days. The incubation period is a mere 24 hours. The virus spread into Central Osean towns before spreading to the capital. As soon as the capital was hit, the hotspot became the center of the country. From that point, the virus was free to have its way with people.

A travel notice was issued by multiple WHA nations due to the outbreak of the contagious virus in the Central Osean Republic. Northwestern regions of the country had become cautious areas. At that point, the International Olympic Group had suspended the Central Osean Republic from competing in the 2019 Winter Olympics when the following statement was released by Marc Bassenault.

"Bienvenue, tous-le-monde. I've tried to make a habit of not making these early releases as to preserve the anticipation for the games—however, I'm afraid this is extremely important. This is also an updated amendment to my last release. We've received grave news from the Roman Olympic Committee within the Oseanite Republic. In just two weeks, we have seen the death rate increase one-hundredfold. Logistics were compiled with the aid of the Imperial Congress on Fitness and Health. It seems this may be an unprecedented threat to Osea, and it cannot come here to Fusée. Should it do so, there would be a great scare and the most unfortunate suspension of the games would be in order. Another unanimous decision was made only an hour ago by the committee to completely suspend the Central Osean Republic from the Games of the III Olympiad in Vélograd, as they are only in one week.

The Viceroy General has also met with us this morning regarding the cancellation of Central-Oseanite travel in Fusea. Travel will be restricted only to doctors and medical staff, diplomats, etcetera. Additionally, the Viceroy General has met with the ICFH and is offering to send a team of staff-immunologists and hundreds of nurses to the affected regions of the Central Osean Republic in order to compensate for this missed opportunity and general misfortune. the Spationautes Généraux will be responsible for such flights, and will be able to carry many medical supplies—if needed—to the areas afflicted."

From that point on, the virus continued to spread until it hit its peak in February. After the peak, the virus was able to be contained to a certain area. Those who had the virus were still dying, but the number of new cases had slowed down significantly to a certain point where to now we consider OPV-1 contained. A virus that had the potential to kill as many as GIV-1 was stopped in its tracks before it could become something worse than an epidemic that had the potential to kill many in days.

Lessons

These viral illnesses caused the world major pain and suffering and many deaths. What these viruses taught the world was that everyone needs to be prepared or dire consequences could be seen. GIV-1 caught the world off-guard and CD-1 caught the world in its recovery stages. However, CD-1 did not become GIV-1 because people were prepared. That set up the preparations for OPV-1. Everyone knew what to do in order to stop the spread. That is important for any other viral illness coming forward.
