Early Life

Edward William John Francis von Barionia-Luxembourg (born Edward John Luxembourg, addressed as HRH King Edward III, colloquially known as King Edward) was born on the 10th of October, 1970 in Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Austria. He was the first child of Sir William Fisher von Luxembourg and Eve Frenchis. When Edward was 3, his twin brothers Matthew and Lucas were born. As his father was a member of the old house of Luxembourg, the family was quite wealthy and lived comfortably throughout Edward's childhood. Edward attended public primary school and graduated high school as the valedictorian in 1988. He moved across country and attended the University of Vienna, majoring in Political Science. When Edward was 20, his father William died of natural causes at age 80. Edward finished University in 1994 and took a job with the Sozialdemokratische Partei Österreichs, one of the biggest Austrian political parties.

In 1996, while skiing in Switzerland, Edward's mom Eve met the crown prince of the Kingdom of Sint Maarten, Prince Edward. He took an immediate liking to her. They started discreetly dating and on June 27th, 1998, announced they would be married. The two were married on September 18th on Maho Beach with Edward, Matthew and Lucas looking on fondly, having just moved in nearby. Edward continued to work in Vienna, while making frequent trips to visit his mother and stepfather. One the second day of the new millennium, January 2, 2000, Prince Edward's father, King Otto I, facing health problems, abdicated. King Edward I and Queen Eve I were crowned the next day. His reign would tragically be cut short, as he was assassinated on November 11th, 2000 in New Lelystad. The crown however, did not pass to Eve's son Edward but King Edward I's 28 year old cousin, who was coronated as King Edward II on November 15th, 2000. He became the third Maartenian king in that one year.

King Edward II, unmarried and childless, started to become power hungry. He was dissatisfied with just owning Sint Maarten and wanted more. First, Lucas, Matthew, and Eve went into exile in Austria, returning to their old home. Next, King Edward II declared war, without the government's assent, on Jamaica. Unprepared and inexperienced, the nation fared poorly in the war. The government dissolved and a civil war ensued in January. It ended May 30th, 2003, when King Edward II abdicated and fled to the United States. Nicholas Sama would eventually rise to power. He called an end to the monarchy and declare himself supreme dictator. From August to December, hundreds left the island, fearing their freedoms would be lost if they stayed. In January 2004 the Island's borders were closed and would stay that way for 7 years.

Rise in Politics

In 2004, Edward got a new job as a Professor of Political Science at Universität Hamburg, and he moved to Germany. There he met Lucille Mountbatten, a biology professor, and they fell madly in love. Edward and Lucille eloped in 2005, and their first child, Kathleen, was born January 9th, 2006. She would be followed by a younger sister, Caitlyn (born 2008) and a younger brother, James (born 2010). 2011 brought a move back to Austria, as Edward and Lucille both got jobs teaching in Salzburg.

During the early 2010s, inklings of revolutions spread throughout southern Sint Maarten. As former royalty, Eve and Edward felt empathetic to the South St Maartenian cause and monitored the situation closely. In 2015, Edward came in contact with Count Robert Woodson and James Kirabatii. Through them, he was made known about the revolution that would soon occur in South St Maarten. Throughout the civil war that ensued, Edward and Lucille provided radio support to the South St Maartenian soldiers, earning their trust in the process. In February 2017 both Edward and Lucille quit their posts and returned to South St Maarten. The war was going well at this point, and South St Maarten won it on April 12th, 2017. James Kirabatii's constitution was adopted and called for a Constitutional Monarchy. As such, a new King was needed. Edward II had died of a heart attack in Boston in 2004, and as he was childless, Edward and Lucille were the only logical choices.

Leadership

On June 2nd, 2017, King Edward III and Queen Lucille were coronated, with Lucille as the royal consort. King Edward III went right to work, establishing the rules of the Monarchy. He helped author a bill of rights which was added to the constitution. He decreed that there would be no male primogeniture, and his eldest daughter would be the next ruler. Edward further said the new name of the Royal House would be Barionia-Luxembourg, with Barionia coming from his stepfather and Luxembourg coming from his father. Also, all further claims to the South St Maartenian throne would have to run through either him or his wife Lucille, as they were now the new point zero.

King Edward III does look at every law the Parliament approves and either approves or vetoes it, but other than that, his role is mostly ceremonial. Together, he and Prime Minister James Kirabatii represent South St Maarten on the world stage. King Edward III is well liked and in a referendum held in 2020, 98% of South St Maartenian citizens said they would like the monarchy to remain.
