Government of the Mexican Republic

The Government of Mexico is a constitutional federal republic consisting of three branches, the executive, legislative and judicial branches. The executive branch is composed of the General Junta of Government, chaired by the President. The legislature is composed of a bicameral Federal Congress with an indirectly elected Senate and an elected Chamber of Deputies. The Senate is composed of members appointed by the General Junta of Government. The judicial branch is led by the Supreme Court of Justice whose 10 members serve for life and are appointed by the President with the approval of the Senate.

President of the Republic

The President is the chief executive of the Mexican government as well as the head of state. The President is appointed by the Federal Congress every 6 years with the incumbent being ineligible for reappointment. The President is also the commander-in-chief of the Federal Armed Forces.
