Trivia

  • The flag of Caszan was designed to be a direct insult to Desma and is a symbolic representation of the separation of the Caszanii people from Desmalian tyranny and the seizure of land from the Dukedom of Desmalia.

  • The "government" of Caszan consists of one man who maintains the nation's flag which is flown in an innocuous field in the exact geographical centre of the country and the official Caszanii national baseball team, The Bogdanburg Bulls.

  • Baseball was introduced to the country in 1950 after a small group of American immigrants challenged some Russian immigrants in the Northern town of Bogdanburg. The game quickly gained popularity amongst the people of Caszan and was eventually made the national sport and is the reason that the national team is based out of Bogdanburg rather than any other town or the city of Westville.

  • The national animal of Caszan is the Desmalian bull and the national flower is the red marsh flower.

  • Caszan does not have an official national anthem. On the rare occasions when the playing of a national anthem is customary, usually at sports events, a bugle player is brought out to improvise a short song instead.

  • The official and oldest name for the nation is Caszan, but other names include Caszania or Caszaniland. Desma refuses to use the official name of Caszan and instead refers to it as the "Disputed Territory" or, more politely, "Western Desmalia", to reflect both their claim upon the region and their historic refusal to acknowledge the native language of the Caszanii people.

  • Due to historical and cultural factors, Caszan is one of the few left-wing libertarian nations whose development has not been curtailed or interfered with by capitalist powers. In fact, the nation is often warmly regarded by such powers as an example of a country whose history is a true underdog story, though this attitude is often somewhat patronising in tone. Moreover, the general success of the Caszanii anarchist society is often undermined by other nations through engineered false depictions of the country as primitive and undeveloped.

  • The 'Farmer, soldier, scholar' joke stems from a stereotype within the country that the average Caszanii is rural, armed and talks too much.
