History roughdraft

Will be short for now since Im just summarizing major events. Starting at the point of divergence (

938: King Otto I of Germany's half-brother Thankmar, Elder Wichmann, Duke Eberhard of Bavaria, and Archbishop Frederick of Mainz all join in rebellion against the King.

940: Thanks to a timely incursion from West Francia, King Otto I is defeated and killed at the Battle of Birten. His younger brother, Henry, would be crowned King of the Germans. Because of the death of Otto, Italy is never added to the German realm and thus the Holy Roman Empire would never be formed. Unlike Otto I, Henry I was an incompetent administrator and constantly struggled with civil strife and rebellions, and was never able to force King Harald 'Bluetooth' to convert to Christianity like Otto did.

1087: Like on our timeline, the former Christian King of Sweden who was deposed for not conducting a blot, Ingi Steinkelsson, attempted to use quickfire to eliminate the new King, a Norse pagan named Håkan Röde. However, Håkan was able to successfully flee (unlike in real life) and mustered together a retinue that would defeat Ingi Steinkelsson's band. Capturing Ingi, King Håkan sacrificed him to Odin.

1089: Håkan determined Christians to be a threat to his rule. Rather than choosing to convert, Håkan began forcing Swedish Christians to either convert or be banished.

1090: Realizing that without a strong centralized church authority, Norse will stand little chance against Christianity in the long term. A group of powerful priests and priestsess meet in Uppsala to formalize church rituals and mythology as well as establishing a church hierarchy.
