Naval Weaponry

Ballistics

A Bondo (lit. Breaker) is a large, ballista-like weapon that is attached to the sides or deck of military vessels. They are primarilly made from wood or brass, and can vary in size depending on how large or small the ship is. A Bondo serves various purposes, from firing standard ammunition, to shooting nets, harpoons, and in some cases, hot-rocks. Bondos are slow to reload, but have a good amount of power behind their shots, able to rival small cannons in power depending on the type of ammo used, and the Bondos size. A ship will usually have four Bondos, one on the port and starboard sides, one on the bow, and one in the steer of the ship. This number can increase with size, but that is the general amount of Bondos on one ship.

To summarize, a Bondo is essentially a really big Thunderbow.

Stirka
Stirka (lit. Standard) bolts are standard issue bolts, essentially speaking, it is a large arrow with a heavy iron, blunt tip for smashing through hulls. It's pretty cheaply made, and easy to mass produce, so all military vessels have a lot of these.

Cremata
Cremata (lit. Fire) bolts are large bolts who's arrowhead consists of carved hotrock. The bolt is "primed" by whacking the hotrock with a hammer until it glows, after which, it is aimed and fired at enemy ships. The bolt, at this point, becomes so hot that it burns wooden ships, and causes them to catch fire, even if the round shatters, it is still rather effective, transforming the bolt into a firebomb. This round tends to backfire, so it's rarely used aside from the coup de grace for already doomed ships.

Whetlus
Whetlus Bolts are named after the bolt type used often by the Ilthenia Guard, and the two are essentially the same thing, but with differing sizes. They are modified bolts that are cut into multiple pieces, sharpened to a razor edge, and glued back on very weakly. The result is a spread-shot of razor sharp, heavy spikes, which cause a good amount of damage in multiple areas of the ship. typically used for close range battles, as the bolt is effectively useless from far away.

Peshade

Peshade (lit. Fishing) bolts are standard Stirkas with a hook on the arrowhead, and a 20 meter long rope attached to it, used for keeping targets at bay by essentially attaching the two ships together, the hook is meant to imbed itself into the ship, keeping a tight hold.

Exterminay

Exterminay (Lit. Exterminator) bolts are essentially containers of noxious poisons placed on a large bolt. The bolt gets its name from the bolthead used by the Ilthenia Guard of the same name, in addition to the toxin used being a common pest killer. When the bolt hits its target, the head shatters, splashing the ship with a clear, toxic liquid, which evaporates into a noxious vapour. Used to smoke out ships of their crew, and generally dispatch enemies without much effort.

Due to concerns of unnecessary suffering, some crews buy modified versions that instead are used as anesthesia, putting their targets to sleep for easy capture.

Melee

the Spilla (lit. Razor) of a ship is a large metal blade running along the bow of the ship, its primary purpose is to reinforce the ship's bow in order to ram enemy vessels with, transforming the bow of the ship into a moving, sharp object, which cuts through the hulls of enemy vessels.
