Vote Against GA resolution Repeal "International Road Safety"

General Assembly Vote Recommendation

Part of the Information for WA Voters program

Resolution at Vote: Repeal "International Road Safety"
Vote Recommendation: Against

Resolution Analysis
Overview
The at-vote proposal aims to repeal GA resolution "International Road Safety", arguing that the ambiguity of the regulations introduced in the target may result in unintended and negative consequences towards the effectiveness of the resolution. A replacement is being drafted alongside the repeal to address these concerns.

Recommendation
While the proposal in question is well constructed, it does not offer an effective case for the necessity of a repeal. The target clearly sets a guideline for the scope of its regulations in its 'Requires' and 'Further Requires' clauses, with the proposal itself ceding that the target sets definable standards for the regulations it implements. It is evident that the target establishes a distinguishable upper limit and sets clear parameters for the safety regulations implemented. While a case could be made for repealing the target resolution, this repeal does not make a particularly convincing one.

For these reasons, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends voting Against the at-vote General Assembly proposal, "Repeal 'International Road Safety'".
