Political Parties

The Right Wing Coalition

National Patriot Party (NPP) - The NPP is a far right party inspired by the political system under Ghandi. They want to cut off our current allies and instead focus on playing a large imperial role in central and south america as Ewharistan is the most powerful nation in the region. It's membership is mostly made up of Ghandistan loyalists and anti-socialists in the country. Weakest party electorally in the National Assembly with very limited success in local elections.

Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) - The DFP is a classically liberal party that believes in the principles civil liberties such as free speech and electoral freedoms. They also are strong proponents of Laissez-faire economies, low tariffs, and global capitalistic trade. The party has no official stance on many social policies such as abortion or LGBT rights. Most members tend to have moderate to conservative views on these issues, however the parties contain some members who are reactionary on these issues and others that are downright progressive. This is the 3rd largest party and the largest right wing party in Ewharistan and thus has a lot of influence in the coalition. This party is prominent in both federal and local elections.

Christian Union (CU) - The CU is a party of right wing Christians. This party is usually slightly more supportive of limited welfare then the DFP, but they still advocate for charity and other such methods over welfare in order to encourage Christian ethics in the population. Tends to be slightly more socially conservative then the DFP but not by much. Advocates for Christianity to be the state religion. While they are prominent at the national level, their true influence can be seen in the local level where in certain rural districts they are able to win majorities in local assemblies.

The Left Wing Coalition

Labour Party (LP) - The LP still hold to banner of the revolution against Ghandistan, with many of their leadership and membership containing original revolutionary leaders. With Ewharistan as it's own nation, the LP advocates for a large amount of social programs and welfare spending, believing it their job to take care of the worst off citizens. The party mostly consists of social democrats who believe in social programs within a capitalist economy, though there are some in the party who do advocate for socialism. This is the 2nd largest party in the country and the largest left-wing party, meaning they have a large amount of power and influence. The president who served during the Great War, President Silva, was a member of the Labour Party and is widely seen as one of Ewharistan's greatest presidents.

Christian Liberation Movement (CLM) - The CLM is widely seen as the moral center of the left. Their politics and theology are heavily influenced by a combination of the social gospel from the Reformed Orthodox church and Liberation Theology that developed under the oppressive Ghandistan rule. CLM are slightly left of the LP, often more directly supporting the nationalization of certain industries and calling for reforms that bring the nation closer to socialism as they believe that big structural changes are needed to bring the world closer to God. Similar to the CU, they have found more success at the local level then national.

Workers Council (WC) - The WC are practitioners of the tenants of Council Communism specifically. The national party and small number of politicians in the national assembly think of themselves and their jobs as more in the realm of rhetoric and persuasion, with real change being done at the grassroots level by workers and workers councils. As can be expected by this, their influence at the federal level is very limited, but they are one of the most powerful forces in local politics, particularly in urban areas.

Vanguard (VAN) - The Vanguard are influenced by Marxist-Leninist thought as well as nations such as Stalin and the Arabic Soviets. They seek to establish greater connection with Moscow Pact nations and to encourage communist revolution both within Ewharistan and across the world. A weak party on both the national and local level, but does have success in education and mutual aid that they participate in, often in conjunction with the WC.

The Swing Party

New-Age Alliance (NAA) - The NAA is the Ewhari variant of the A21 party in the North Sea Federation. When the North Sea Federation gifted us portions of their territory, a disparity between the quality of life throughout the country was shown in sharp focus. Many citizens who formally were members of the North Sea Federation and part of the A21 party began to adapt the scientific focus of the party toward industrializing and advancing the nation to catch up with the other nations in the world. This also attracted many of the older members of Ewharistan who wanted the nation to compete with others on the world stage. That was only amplified in the Great War where gravity technology was used against the nation. The NAA believes in a healthy cooperation between private and public industry as the most effective way to rapidly develop, but also believe that some degree of welfare is necessary in that development as other major nations like the North Sea Federation also have large welfare programs. The NAA is the largest party in the country but due to it's goals and middle of the road policies, it's members do not fully fit in either coalition. Thus this party's membership vote on which coalition they wish to be part of. This party's focus is on the national level, and thus is actually somewhat weaker on the local level.
