Languages: Carician Standard, Picari, Taunian, Leonid, Pareni, Gomotitan
Government: A materialist form of oligarchy, where an expert committee oversees the government apparatus and directs an elected government body. The specifics of planetary government vary from planet to planet.
Government(in-depth): The U.A.C. is a constitutional government in which the power of the central government is limited by law to create individual planets with certain degrees of self-governing powers. The United Aspirid Colonies works as an interplanetary federation, with much of the centralised government infrastructure located on Caricia. The head of state is the Proedos, who presides over the Apartia, a table of up to twelve delegates who are each either elected by citizens of their respective colony, put forward by their respective colony’s senate, or appointed by the head of state of their colony.

Culture: A materialistic, hyper-industrialist and competitive people.
Culture(in-depth): The Aspir, broadly, do not believe in a code of morality, nor in a divine spark within natural life which gives it special value. However, almost paradoxically, there is a widespread belief of Aspirid exceptionalism - partly driven by the almost perfect star system which they inhabit. The Domidus star system contains 12 planets capable of supporting large populations around three stars and sticks out as a cosmic miracle in the fields of Aspirid science.
From a cultural point of view, there has been a noted shift from planet to planet over the last hundred years.
Domidus Star System
Soilios Primus;
  • Caricia - Caricia remains the centre of Aspirid commerce, politics and law - especially within the Solios Primus starwell - its people are usually seen as overly ambitious, with a stereotype of being domineering puppeteers on most of the colonies outside of Primus.

  • Gessemona - Gessemona, or “Little Caricia”, strongly emulates Caprician styles and culture - which is unsurprising given that it is Caricia’s moon.

  • Picar - Picar’s culture is deeply rooted by its initial status as a planet chosen for Carician military research. Its people are steadfast, loyal, and utilitarian. Few were surprised when the military arm of the U.A.C announced that Picar would serve as the location of the Colonial Fleet’s headquarters.

  • Taunbar - Taunbar is a paradoxical planet. It was one of the first to vie for independence from Caricia when Caricia’s colonisation movement in Secundus and Tertrium began to collapse, and also one of the first to sign the Colonial Charters and join the U.A.C. As such, the Taunbari are generally seen as free-spirited and pragmatic people who won’t hesitate to step on people to help themselves. Needless to say this is a trait that Caricians have grown to respect.

Solios Secundus;

  • Corak - Corak is a simple planet, a lush paradise with bountiful farmland and rich mountain ranges. It's also one of the poorest worlds in the Colonies - mainly driven by decades of exploitation by first Caricia and then both Parenikar and Leonis, and as a result its people are stereotyped as low-class uneducated simpletons.

  • Thellodar - Thellodar is an insular planet, keeping minimal levels of contact with the other colonies except to moderate as a neutral third party. Its people are generally seen as level headed and withdrawn, with something insightful to add to a discussion - even if they have to be prodded to provide it.

  • Oreinar - The only thing a Oreini hates more than a Carician is a Parenikarian. Recently liberated from the yoke of Parenikarian occupation at great cost, the Oreinar are fanatical about keeping their planet independent from tyranny.

  • Stratiot - Stratiot is Picar and Oreinar taken to extremes. They are a militaristic society dedicated to preserving their own independence by any means necessary from any who would attempt to take it - be it the Caricians, Parenikarians or Leonids. They boast the most guns per citizen in the system, and based on their martial performance thus far, everyone else is inclined to believe them.

  • Parenikar - Parenikarians are a proud people who have molded their own distinct hierarchy since gaining independence from Caricia. Their royal family, descendants of the heroes of the independence movement, are a celebrated figurehead in Parenikarian society. The pride Parenikarians feel regarding their fledgling empire is matched only by the disdain they feel regarding their rivals, the Caricians and the Leonids.

  • Leonis - Leonid culture, like the planet itself, is dominated by its Imperial Family. Swearing loyalty to the crown is an integral part of maturity within Leonid culture, and to ensure that the Leonid empire grows stronger by any means necessary is a driving factor in everyday life.

Solios Tertium;

  • Drochos - With the smallest population of the settled worlds, Drochos is typically seen as an insignificant backwater planet by some. However the sprawling research labs found across its surface would disprove this notion. Drochosi people are, by and large, scientists and engineers who settled a planet for the purposes of completely unrestricted scientific research. They are generally seen as eccentric and strange by other Aspir.

  • Gomotita - A world known for its richness and diversity, it offers something for everyone: sunny southern beaches, snow-capped northern mountains, and the largest direct democractic system in Aspirid history. Gomotita is also blessed with farmland that is among the most fertile in the colonies, as well as rich mineral deposits. Despite this, it is not as developed as planets like Leonis, Caricia and Parenikar - mostly due to its distance from the other major colonies.

Currency: Enerous
Economy(in-depth):
Domidus Star System
Soilios Primus;
  • Caricia - Caricia has a thriving economic market and enjoys closer trading ties with the rest of the Solios Primus system after its constituent colonies signed the Colonial Charters.

  • Gessemona - Has an economic market which is closely linked with Caricia. Most of Gessemona’s valuable trade is exported to Caricia.

  • Picar - Picar’s economy is a broadly self sustained military-industrial complex which enjoys lucrative protection and mercenary contracts across the Domidus star system.

  • Taunbar - Taunbar enjoyed a broadly neutral trading relationship with most of the Aspirid colonies before it joined the U.A.C. Now it has closely aligned itself with Caricia, and found itself isolated from Caricia’s rivals.

Solios Secundus;

  • Corak - Corak’s economy is fragile, export-focused, prone to exploitation and typically reels when hit by blockades from it’s more militarised neighbours.

  • Thellodar - Thellodar’s economy is small in size, and ultimately isolated from the turmoil of the ongoing rivalry between Caricia, Leonis and Parenikar.

  • Oreinar - Oreinar’s economy is rapidly shifting to military production and research in order to follow up on its political statements of eternal independence.

  • Stratiot - A Spartan military economy, everything produced is acquired by the state and used to support the planet’s military force.

  • Parenikar - A diversified, liberal free market which enjoys imports from Corak. There is slight turmoil in the colony’s markets following Oreinar’s independence.

  • Leonis - A stratified economic system with a high poverty rate which keeps its people in line via military force and propagandised depictions of outside threats.

Solios Tertium;

  • Drochos - A small high-tech export market which primarily exports to Caricia.

  • Gomotita - An underdeveloped economy primarily due to its self-imposed isolationism regarding Caricia and the imperial powers in the Secundus gravity well. Despite this, its large population pool leaves the potential open for rapid growth should these barriers be lifted.

Industry(Agriculture, production, etc/in-depth):
Domidus Star System
Soilios Primus;
  • Caricia - Caricia enjoys a large, diverse industrial base, however its natural reserves are somewhat more depleted than the newer colonies. It is currently self-sufficient in food supply.

  • Gessemona - A net exporter of every resource, mostly to Caricia. Lacks substantial heavy industry.

  • Picar - Large heavy industry market, imports food from Gessemona and Taunbar. Picar’s orbital shipyards are among the largest in the system, dwarfing anything in Caricia’s orbit.

  • Taunbar - Taunbar exports the vast majority of the resources it mines or farms. It has a developing industrial base and next to no military industrial complex.

Solios Secundus;

  • Corak - No heavy industry sector. Overwhelmingly exports raw materials and food.

  • Thellodar - Aside from what it needs to support its economy, Thellodar has yet to exploit the vast majority of its natural resources. It has a small heavy industry sector, most of which is dwarfed by even a small city on Caricia.

  • Oreinar - Much of the planet’s resources are being funneled towards heavy industry and military manufacturing. This trend is unlikely to be sustainable given the planet’s current level of development.

  • Stratiot - Highly militarised industrial base, expected to become reliant on imports from Corak if current levels of industrial expansion continue. Substantial orbital military infrastructure.

  • Parenikar - Industrial growth has recently contracted sharply after the rebellion on Oreinar. The industry on Parenikar can be supported by planetary resource deposits, on paper, but much of these deposits have yet to be exploited.

  • Leonis - Leonis has a steadily growing diverse industrial sector and is broadly self-sufficient, and is expected to be completely self sufficient by the end of the decade.

Solios Tertium;

  • Drochos - A high tech industrial base fuelled by imports from across the system.

  • Gomotita - A large domestic market which has begun to slowly develop its heavy industry sector. It is completely self sufficient in resources.

Origin and Establishment: The United Aspirid Colonies is in certain ways a successor to the Colonial Advisory Government, which was a democratic interplanetary union that emerged following the collapse of the Carician colonisation efforts of Parenikar, Gomotita and Leonis and was entirely dissolved after the onset of the Solios Secundus Independence Wars.
The U.A.C itself was recently formed with the mission statement of reuniting the Aspir across the Domidus star system. Among its founding members were Caricia, Picar and Taunbar - with Gessemona also joining the U.A.C shortly after its declaration of intent. Currently only these four planets have signed the Colonial Charter and joined the U.A.C. The hope is for all twelve major planetary states to be eventually united under the U.A.C, with each planet continuing to have small elements of sovereignty, such as preserving their own legal systems. But that day seems a long way off as many non-signers of the Colonial Charters call the U.A.C ‘another Carician plot for domination of the star system’.
History(in-depth): The dawn of the Carician space age over one-hundred years ago came with the realisation that not only was Caricia not the only inhabitable planet in the galaxy, but that it wasn’t even the only inhabitable planet in the solar system.
Under the guise of extraterrestrial colonisation across the star system, the Carician nationstates joined together under the banner of the Domidus Federation and colonisation began as soon as ships were ready.
Unfortunately the Caricians were a bit too overeager in their settlement attempts and less than eighty years after the first colonies were established on Gessemona (Caricia’s moon), the Aspir were faced by a crisis unlike any of their history. This crisis primarily arose in the Solios Secundus system and stemmed from the massive parallel colonisations of Parenikar, Gomotita and Leonis. Each world saw a rapid draw of Carician settlers, as well as others who weren’t quite satisfied with life on any of the other Solios Primus colonies. Eventually issues such as insufficient local infrastructure to safely support a rapidly growing population and a bloated Carician bureaucracy snowballed the crisis into the hands of numerous strongmen on the newfound colonies. These strongmen rallied support for local rule, which was eventually granted, and then for political power.
This political power was handwaved into being by Caricia with the founding of the Colonial Advisory Government, which sought to streamline colonial development and eventually recentralise power on Caricia. The Colonial Advisory Government failed. The result was the the Solios Secundus Independence Wars, which shattered Carician control over its colonies and resulted in tens of millions of deaths over ten years of fighting.
With the Carician leash removed and the overworld’s power projection crippled for the foreseeable future, several of the largest colonies outside of Solios Primus decided to try their own hand at empire making. Parenikar and Leonis subjugated most of the smaller colonies within their own system, sparking off an interplanetary rivalry between the two which has since led to no shortage of conflict over the next half a century between the two fledgling empires.
But while the two colonies were bickering, Caricia had been licking its wounds and watching. Caricia, Gessemona, Picar and Taunbar announced the formation of the U.A.C on the same day as special forces of the newly unveiled Colonial Fleet orchestrated an uprising on Oreinar against the occupying Parenikarians. While the bloody uprising didn’t alter the unfavourable view the Oreinarians have of the Caricians, it has given the Parenikarians and Leonids a new foe to fight in the Solios Secundus system. And to the Caricians, a foe of Parenikar and Leonis can eventually be made a strong ally.
