Thialrer

The Khaganate of Thialrer, commonly referred to as just Thialrer, is a sovereign state in 1st Epitome United. It is bordered to the north by the Nostrumian Ocean, to the northeast by Dorsla, to the south by Free keltia and the Bay of St. Ezra, to the west by Mantesa, and to the northwest by Cielearda.

Etymology

The word Thialrer is derived from Ancient Thialren Thielre'ar, itself taken from Old Thalren Thielarica. The word Thielarica originally referred to Thalrenius in the Old Thalren language, but under the Principality of Thalrenius's rule over all of Thialrer, it came to refer to its entire domain, that is, Thialrer. Thielarica was derived from Ancient Thalren Thegnristi'eryica, which is thought to be derived from Proto-Iranian TengristiAryan or a similar word, meaning Tengrist Aryan. This itself is thought to be derived from Proto-Iranian TengristiAryan búHmiš, meaning "Tengrist Aryan Land". This referred to the Tengrist faith and practises of the Thalren before their conversion to Judaism, as well as their Indo-Iranic heritage.

In the Thalren language, Thielarica evolved into Thelranica, which then passed into the Thialren language as a loanword. The Ancient Thialren Thielre'ar evolved into Thialrer, which now exists in the Thialren language as an archaic name for Thialrer, having been surpassed by the older Thelranica. It found its way into English during the Middle Ages while Thelranica was adopted in Latin and the other Romance languages, before changing into Thelrania, the variant commonly found in the Romance languages and the namesake of Lady Thelrania, the national personification of Thialrer.

Grand Duchy

The earliest written records in Thialrer date to c. 500 BC. These record the nation as being divided into four tribes; the Oter Tribe, Thelrai Tribe, Tholrae Tribe, and Amakiir Tribe. These tribes practised Thialren Tengrism, a variant of Tengrism, and frequently warred with each other, according to records dating from the period. Around 500 BC, to which the first written records date, the chief was Trajann I, who led a conquest of the other tribes, establishing what is retroactively known as the Grand Duchy of Thialrer, though it called itself the Greater Oter Khaganate. This Khaganate lasted for around three hundred years. This period was known as the Golden Age of Thialrer. Numerous rulers and monarchs came and went, but overall peace existed.

Relations with the nearby state of the Principality of Thalrenius, however, steadily declined and more land was taken by Thalrenius until, in 198 BC, following a series of wars and conflicts over various territories in Thialrer, the Grand Duchy was annexed by Thalrenius. This heralded a new era in Thialrer.

Rule by Thalrenius

The historical Principality of Thalrenius had originated as a small, Iranic-speaking state controlling the island of Thalrenius in the Nostrumian Ocean, and was theorised to be a rump state of a possible earlier Iranic-speaking empire on the Thialren mainland.

Thialrer is composed of nine constitutent countries: Thalrenia, Thalrenius, Amakiir, Thelrai, Thalristan, Trajann, Tholrae, Romaiius, and Anzellottia. Each country has its own national government, often with a unitary structure and often parliamentary in nature. Thalrenius, Thalristan, Trajann, and Tholrae all have national monarchies recognised by the Thialren federal government.
