Devon Jones is the youngest son of James A. Jones Sr., magnate of the Tyrell Mining Conglomerate which has consolidated humanity’s hold in the Solar System. Seemingly confident, rich and handsome, Devon would’ve been the ideal billionaire if things were a Hollywood movie. However, though savvy at financing, Devon is also a bit of a braggart and a notorious playboy, making him notably less level-headed than his elder brothers, whom inherited their father’s post in the company in all but name. This arrangement within the already competitive family made him particularly sensitive to being perceived as less-apt than his peers, which is why he feels the need to be admired and fawned over.

Devon’s larger-than-life ego demanded him to outgrow the suffocating shadow of his father and elder brothers, which is why he essentially pressured his father and friends within the company to place himself as the chief administrator of the planned () company, even if it meant leaving behind Earth; something that meant appealing to family pride to convince the Jones patriarch, ironically enough. It was a sacrifice he found worth it to ensure his place as the founding founder of something and to make his name unforgettable in history.

Even though Devon wasn’t specifically unqualified to help handle a nascent colonial economy, his acceptance in the post was little more than sheer nepotism, as candidates with more multidisciplinary backgrounds could’ve been chosen. Unfortunately for his employees, their boastful boss' epicureanism and nitpicky behaviors make him one hell of a micromanager. And as he’d lead the vanguard party that’d land on the robot-built settlement on Oceanus, it also meant that bumping shoulders with him would be unavoidable in the first decade for the rest of the crew.

Mitch Snyder is the chief security officer of the Colony. A pious and polite man of Midwestern American background.

Much like how his boss ran from the shadow of his more successful brothers, Snyder ran from a shamelessly cheating wife and he was not particularly concerned with being separated 4.37 light-years from her or even informing her that he signed up for the colonization mission. By the time his wife realized that his sudden pay-raise wasn't the result of a promotion and that an insurance deposit to his parents wasn't from accepting a post to the Moon, it was already too late to bring him to court. Though Mitch is deeply sad over never being able to say goodbye to his parents and he regrets relinquishing the chance to see his siblings again, he also is relieved that "the whore" didn't get a cent from him and he relishes in knowing that she is now a 72 year-old hag rotting away in an old folks home, without any adult children (that he's aware of) to look after her if still alive.

Though there was no expectations dangerous wildlife and the Tyrell and Sons Company realistically questioned what small amount of firepower would be able to contend with the intelligences beyond Oceanus' transformation if they proved to be hostile, keeping internal peace through a policing security force was nonetheless a basic expectation for the settlement. Fortunately for Snyder, he would be part of the vanguard group that'd only assure the safety of a handful of people and an android.

A native of Berlin, Hassan Tazzi is a former tech whiz-kid of Moroccan background. Despite slacking off from his full potential after he became jaded with how easily his contributions to society were taken for granted in a land that seemed to consider him a foreigner, he never lost his touch with machinery or engineering. Tazzi’s company dossier states that they can “almost build a ham radio from coconuts”. Hyperbole aside, Tazzi was the highest scoring technician onboard the project, who was best to test, maintain, and repair stationary radio equipment.

He owns the fact that he’s light-years away from women to plaster his workspace with raunchy shots of starlets from magazines and is free to play saucy video games which the HR department back at home would never have permitted. So, it comes to no surprise that his crewmates have voted him and Melford as the “most likely to blind themselves”. Despite this sleazy behavior, Tazzi’s motives for being on Oceanus are among the most altruistic when compared to the others: his contract assured tickets to off-world housing for his family.

Though occasionally distant from those whom are not part of his close family and only formal towards superiors out of obligation, Tazzi’s a man who will give out unflinching loyalty and trust to those who do manage to befriend him. On Oceanus, this man of ideals is friends with Melford the cynic, as they have overlapping interests in gaming, engineering and in dreaming about women.

Antony Melford, native of the UK, is an almost-archetypical computer geek who’s nearly always seen with Tazzi as they share the same operating room and both seldom want to leave their technological den. Melford is the chief IT technician of the colony. He’s tasked with software analysis and data reading to proof-check the reliability of the army of bots in the Tyrell Company’s beck and call, from the land construction units to the satellites over Oceanus.

Melford comes from a middle-class background and is a STEM major, not that he’ll tell most people about life back on Earth unless he’s drunk. Some of the crew believes that he likes to leave home where it is, while others think he wants to forget an embarrassing and unremarkable past. When he’s not inspecting the robots, Melford spends his time playing video games and competing with Tazzi in them, as neither is connected to the Earth’s web.

Melford also likes to give out condescending talks about everyone's insignificance in the cosmic scale of things to try to vex them. But he sounds far more ridiculous than intimidating, and people around him just sort of go along with it. Ironically enough, Melford joined the mission to try to accomplish something to make up for a negligible social life and was the only man truly jealous of Jones’ “relationship” with Nishida.

A custom-built 4th Generation P+Leisure (PL-30/PL-XXX) model android made to resemble Devon’s favorite “actress”, Ms. Felicity Foxxx’s role was redundant. Foxxx, or FF, had the capacity to walk with elegant sultriness, cook Devon’s favorite meals (and even had a built-in storage and disposal unit to simulate eating food) and they even acted out as his secretary. On a more not-so-implicit level, Foxxx’s purpose on the Colony was also to satisfy Devon James’ showmanship, as he wanted to make the other men squirm with jealousy over his special privilege.

To rub salt in the wound, FF was programmed to be chatty and very flirtatious towards all around but to only accept her owner’s advances. Nishida was referred to as an “it” by some of the crew whom didn’t want to get attached to them, others politely rebuffed the gynoid by claiming they were busy, and her presence bought a lot of daily joy and chatter into Melford and Tazzi’s lives even if they tried to assure themselves that FF was just a distraction for them.

A significant part of effort was placed not only in the creation of FF , but also in the amount of supplies and weight of accessories assigned to their for life in Proxima A. FF couldn't eat food at all, but they could simulate eating and enjoying it, even having a built-in storage and waste disposal unit in their chest cavity. This practical waste of food was another ostentous stunt by Jones, whom regarded it as another show of his prowess as a providing and rich gentleman. It goes without saying that Jones also transported quite a considerable amount of clothes and costumes for FF to further emphasize his wealth...and because he liked to see her dressed up as his favorite female characters from fighting games and for "roleplay".

As far as Nishida’s internal programs were concerned, their 36 days on Oceanus were packed with highly productive days of providing company to others and with highly productive nights of constant stimulation with her master. It was a service-life unexpectedly cut short, but the almost-sentient artifice behind the quaint little doll went out of its own existence with a state of mind (?) that could be called happy bliss.

A xenobiologist with added bachelor’s degrees in geography and archeology, Richard Truffaut is the main scientific advisor of the colony. Much to the hypothetical chagrin of Jones if he were to find out, Truffaut’s got a security clearance higher than his as the scientist has the authorization to proceed with pre-determined protocol surrounding contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life.

He is well aware of the peculiarities confirmed by the probe missions’ samplings which were kept under wraps from the general populace: namely that soil richness doesn’t correspond with the planet’s geological ages or known stratigraphy; that the existence of modified grasses from Earth and Kerguelen cabbages imply that somebody or something travelled between two worlds; and that Oceanus was likely the product of terraforming.

Finn Jannsen is a multidisciplinary expert on human wellness: apart from being an HR councilor with knowledge in psychology, Janssen is also the colony’s medical doctor. Consequently, the workers consider him to be the most important man in the settlement right after Tacchini.

Janssen is quite short, especially for a Dutchman, something he personally blames on his mother for drinking while she was pregnant with him.

Andrea Tacchini is a civil engineer hired by Tyrell to check on the little nooks and crannies of buildings inaccessible to building robots, aerial drones or cleaning robots. As he’s also a qualified chef, Tacchini also frequently prepares meals for Jones and the crew, a conciliatory service the latter actually did concede to not get the crew entirely against him as was the case with Nishida.

Taccini accepted the contract to go to Oceanus because of the advance payments received by signing up, which absolved him of student debt accumulated in a private culinary school. Tacchini apparently wanted to be a cook from the start, but his parents made him apply for a better-paying career, only for him to get into cooking shortly after on his own dime…supposedly.

He is of mixed ancestry: his father’s from Milan, but his mother was a Tohorinese exchange student. So, he “knows” an inkling of Tohorinese and currently tries to do his best to communicate with Mendoza in his mother’s secondary native tongue whenever the two aren’t trying to bridge some common ground between Spanish and Italian by speaking slowly to each-other.
