The Original Vampires

Introduction to the Family

The Mikaelson's, five siblings now known as The Originals: The progenitors of all supernatural vampires. You would be hard pressed to find a vampire that doesn't know their name, but you'd have an even harder time finding a vampire that knows their story. In time all vampires are eventually hear of their exploits post-vampirism, often being told in warning by an older vampire than themselves as to why it's not wise to involve yourselves with a Mikaelson. There's even countless records in existence that can be found and researched by those who know where to look, detailing all sorts of things about their lives as vampires, yet nothing exists about their lives as humans. Some believe they were never human in the first place, that they were simply born as vampires. Many believe they were cursed by a witch in some way, in an effort to explain why witches hate vampires so much. Others believe their parents must have made a cursed deal with a demon of sort, or even that they themselves are demons. The various rumors about how they become vampires are rather endless, while the list of people who know the truth contained within said rumors is exceedingly short. In the end the only people who know the past of the Mikaelson family are those who were told by a Mikaelson directly, for one reason or another, and those who do learn their story keep the fact they know in the first place to themselves. With enough research in the right places it can be confirmed that the Originals first made their existence as vampire's known at some point in the 2200's BR, but if you managed to hear it from a Mikaelson directly they would tell you they were all human until 2252 BR. They lived in Europe of Chilean Earth, where they grew up on the island of Cyprus as part of what was then Minoan Civilization. Cyprus, at the time, was a land where witches and werewolves largely lived alongside normal humans. For centuries these three coexisted thanks to one, ironclad law: Every full moon the people cursed to transform into wolves had to leave their homes and gather together in nearby forests, while those who would stay human were expected to stay indoors and silent the entire night. After transforming away from their homes these werewolf ancestors would brawl amongst each other and hunt local wildlife throughout the night to distract themselves, well away from anyone they could hurt or kill while unable to control their actions. This system wasn't perfect, accidents would happen, but it worked well enough that few complained. A former soldier, Mikael, was one such person. He was a man known throughout his village for being abrasive and quick to anger, which made his furious ravings at the complacency of living among men that turned into wolves that much more upsetting. In spite of his anger, Mikael later found a wife in a woman named Antheia, who happened to be known as one of the most powerful witches in the land. Shortly after getting married the two went on to have two sons: Their first, Oliyas, born in 2284 BR, and Phineres, born in the following year of 2283 BR. Following the birth of their first two sons Mikael's chronic issues with his temperament caused a large rift in their marriage, reaching a head when he nearly went to strike her only to be easily subdued by her magic. For many years they hardly spoke to each other, by the time they did their eldest son was already old enough to realize his parents didn't really talk to each other, but the day eventually came where Mikael gained better control over his aggression and the two started to get along again. Alongside speaking to each other again came two more sons: Drekias, in 2280 BR, and Eryntes in 2278 BR. Then in 2275 BR yet another son, Kelatias, was born. By the time his sons were old enough to walk Mikael would insist on teaching them how to fight in any situation, armed or unarmed, with any weapon available. Despite being children he didn't treat them gently, but he never did anything to actually hurt them. That was until in 2273 BR, when a curious Drekias convinced Eryntes to follow him to the forest on the night of a full moon, to see men turning into wolves like they had always been told about. Together the boys snuck away as the sun began to set and waited to watch the transformation from start to finish, but unfortunately things didn't go as planned. As soon as the transformation began, as their skeletal structures began to snap, bend, and rearrange itself the two boys were immediately discovered due to their scent. Before either of the boys knew it Eryntes was being mauled to death by half men-half wolves trying desperately to stop themselves, but they couldn't. They, and a 5 year old Eryntes, were at the mercy of the moon. Drekias was able to flee while the werewolves struggled in excruciating pain, desperate to keep themselves from killing not one but two young boys. By the time the wolves had completed their transformation, Drekias had already long since made it back to the village and Eryntes had been dead for well over an hour. The following morning Mikael found Drekias spackled with blood that wasn't his own, shaking in terror and unable to form a single word. At first he showed the utmost concern for Drekias, until the moment he realized Eryntes was nowhere to be seen. Word travelled fast throughout the village about what happened, as the werewolves who unwillingly slaughtered the young boy shared the story of what happened as a warning to other children on why staying home on the night of a full moon is so important. Spurred by grief Mikael pleaded with his village to end the coexistence with werewolves, to banish them from the land. He even travelled to nearby villages in an attempt to gather support, from anyone, but to no avail. In the eyes of every other villager a boy was killed in a perfectly avoidable accident, and everyone should be thankful that it wasn't two. This reasoning only deepened both Mikael's rage and his grief, and he had one clear target: Drekias. He continued training his sons but he became especially hard on Drekias, often outright brutalizing him to vent his frustration. His elder brothers would initially voice their concern for their younger brother, but doing so only meant they got a similar treatment the following day for talking back, which served as an early lesson for Kelatias to never talk back or question his father. Despite her great magic power even Antheia came to fear her husband and his wrath, to the point she even convinced herself that her magic wasn't strong enough to stop what he was doing to Drekias. Again, Mikael and Antheia were no longer on speaking terms, her too afraid to say anything at all and him too focused on venting his grief by using training as an excuse to abuse his son. After years of untold abuse Antheia steeled her resolve, deciding the best way to save her children and herself, a distraction that could hopefully even staunch his ever growing anger- A daughter. In 2272 BR Antheia seduced her estranged husband and, through her magic, ensured she would absolutely produce a daughter who was later named Kalixeina. Initially the plan seemed to work, Mikael became obsessed with being a dutiful father to his daughter, but this ended up causing an entirely new problem: Her husband began insisting, absolutely demanding, that she use magic to make their family strong enough to never have to fear the werewolves again. Despite Antheia's fear she tried to vehemently protest, claiming that using magic in such a way would defy nature and only cause even more pain, but her resistance didn't last long in the face of Mikael. She began delving deep into her research, collecting all manner of texts and tomes, even communing with spirits. For years her studies persisted with her children growing up around her, but Antheia's full attention had to be on the task that was more or less forced upon her. While she researched how to 'protect' her children, the situation with Drekias shockingly improved quite a lot. Young Kalixeina had Mikael wrapped around her finger, and by the time she was old enough to talk she would yell at him be so hard on her older brothers. She could tell her was hurting them and it was upsetting her. Seemingly spared from their father's wrath, finally, thanks to their new sister, the four surviving brother's became VERY protective of her. Collectively the five siblings became very close thanks to Kalixeina's love of her brothers, and their mutual desire to keep her safe. By the time their mother had completed her research and developed a way to make them even stronger than a werewolf, 20 years had already come and gone. The culmination of her research ended in two parts: The magic spell required would center around a complex ritual and a specifically crafted elixir, made with carvings from the village's white oak tree, petals from the vervain flower, the blood of a human, and the blood of a werewolf all mixed together with a steady flow of magic pouring into it on the night of an unfilled moon. She informed Mikael about her plan and what his part would entail, then the pair had a family dinner with their oblivious children. They watched carefully as Mikael and each of their children took at least a sip of the bitter cocktail in front of them and then, without further warning, Mikael killed each of his children by plunging his sword through their chests. Then, with cathartic relief, Antheia cut Mikael's throat her knife and watched the life leave his pained eyes. However, this was not the end for any of them. From there she began the ritual that would bring them back to life as something else, something new, something stronger: Vampire's. After an hour had come and gone the ritual was complete as all five of her children, and her husband, healed from their mortal wound and took a deep breath of their new life.

That was the moment Antheia revealed the last thing required to complete the ritual she just started, a detail she had omitted from telling Mikael when she told him about the plan: Completing the ritual that brought them back to life means they must drink fresh human blood, otherwise the wound that's healed will return and they will die all over again. Her children were all confused and disoriented, unsure of what's even going on, but this reveal horrified their father. Mikael began to claim such a thing makes them no better than the werewolves they hate, only for Antheia to correct him that HE hates werewolves, she does not. This spurred an intense argument between the two, involving Antheia insisting that this is exactly what he demanded of her, as their overwhelmed children stumbled out of their home. The five briefly talked and came to an agreement that if what their mother said is true, they have to drink the blood of someone else in the village or they'll die for a second time. Unanimously they decided they all want to live and began to talk about who they should kill, based on who each of them did and didn't like, until they were able to make a list of five targets that each of them were okay with having killed. One by one the siblings searched the village for their first victim and completely drained them of their blood, killing them, and officially becoming the very first vampires. However, this also caused and unexpected change in one of them. Drekias began screaming in agony, loud enough for the whole village to hear, as his body began to break itself apart only to rebuild and break itself again: He was transforming into a werewolf, and without a full moon, but he was resisting. This screaming quickly drew the attention of his siblings and even his quarrelling parents, although this only make things worse. Mikael was greeted with the sight of who he thought was his son in the process of transforming into a werewolf, only being a werewolf is a genetic condition. One that he does not carry. It took only a moment for Mikael to realize Drekias was not his son and was actually born from a near 3 decade old affair his wife must have had with a man who carries the gene, driving Mikael's anger to an all new extreme. Already enraged at the thought of the monsters his family had now become, made worse by his wife's adultery, Mikael took hold of his wife and bit down on her throat to drain her dry, completing his own ritual and killing her in the process. Oliyas and Phineres tried to pry their father from their mother's throat but to no avail, he was far too strong compared to them and his grip on her was absolute, while Kelatias and Kalixeina could only stare in shock. Blinded by a mix of rage and grief he released his wife's fresh corpse and immediately turned his attention to the still reeling Drekias, only for his two elder brother's to again stand in his way. Mikael tried talking his eldest sons down, insisting that their half brother was a thing that should never have been born, while reminding them of what would happen in their youth when they stood against him. To his shock, these words only made his other two children stand in his way as well- All four of his children, for the first time in their lives, were standing against him to protect Drekias. In Mikael's mind this act of defiance was no different than siding with their treacherous mother and, given the monsters they had become anyways, decided killing all of them was the best course of action. The four siblings held their own against their father, led by Oliyas who was by far the most gifted warrior among the brothers, while Phineres was largely just protecting Kalixeina and Kelatias was protecting the grounded Drekias. During this scuffle their half brother was eventually able to finish stopping his transformation and took up arms himself, quickly turning the tide against their father. With all five siblings fighting against him he was forced to immediately withdraw, otherwise he'd be killed, but it was obvious only Oliyas would be able to keep up with their father, and he can't beat him alone. Left with no other choice the siblings simply fled together, leaving their village behind. After they fled Mikael returned and, in the midst of betrayal from his entire family and boiling over with all sorts of emotions, began to slaughter the entire and every nearby village as revenge for never listening to him about the werewolf threat. One by one virtually no one was spared, human or wolf, adult or child, because in his mind every single one of them was responsible for what had happened. Unaware of the slaughter their father was carrying out, the five siblings began to focus on learning the limits of their new powers and how to control them. Week after week they moved from place to place, feeding to their hearts content, living however they saw fit because no one was strong enough to tell them no. Together they learned the ins and outs of what they can do and, based on a theory proposed by Kelatias, even figured out how to make other humans just like them. If they just made a person drink their blood then killed them, just as their father had done to them, they'd wake back up good as new within a few hours and have to drink fresh human blood just like they did. Once that was done they'd have successfully made another person just like them, but admittedly a far weaker version. After learning this they began to sire very few, select individuals to be their allies and companions in vampirism. People they liked were turned into a vampire like them, people they didn't like were used to feed themselves and their new friends. They would share everything they knew about being a vampire with these lucky few such as how to control their urges, how to use their new powers, and what their new powers even are in the first place. Everything was going well for them as their reputation spread through Cyprus much faster than they moved, even amassing localized cult followings among humans who considered them godlike beings. However, this didn't last forever. After a couple years of treating Cyprus as one massive playground they discovered their father hadn't given up on killing them, and had been following rumors of their whereabouts the entire time. Rather than standing to fight their father together they siblings chose to flee immediately, leaving several of their new 'friends' behind, and of course Mikael was quick to realize his children had made more humans into the same bloodsucking monsters as themselves. Immediately Mikael began to slaughter everyone, from the young vampire's his children had created to the cultists that idolized them, as people tried to flee. Though most failed to escape his culling nine of his children's companions did manage to escape, just barely. After escaping from their father for a second time the siblings decided that since he was tracking rumors of vampires, all they had to do was create a lot more vampires and make it harder to find them in the sea of bloodsuckers. They decided to spread their name as the Mikaelson Siblings, both to spitefully remind their father that they are his children and provide a recognizable name, before then turning a random group of 5 people that vaguely matched their appearance. After siring these five they then compelled them into believing that they were the real Mikaelson Siblings, replacing all their thoughts with memories that aren't their own, otherwise leaving them with nothing but a desire to feed and instinct to run from Mikael by any means necessary. After this the true Mikaelson Siblings began to sire anyone they felt would cause a problem by being a vampire, due to things like violent tendencies or a high/trusted social status. Unfortunately, their five brainwashed victims thought the exact same way they did, meaning they also compelled a group of five vampires they sired into thinking they're a Mikaelson, which only resulted in another group of five that did the same thing. Each group proceeding to then turn the undesirables of society and high ranking individuals into vampires, all to cause as much chaos as possible and make it harder to find their trail tucked away inside it all. Unaware of what their actions were causing the actual Mikaelson Siblings fled North, off the island of Cyprus, before working their way West along the coast. From there they would bounce from island to island in the Aegean Sea, siring more vampires every step of the way as Mikael tried hunting down every last vampire spawn, in hopes that one trail would lead him to his children. While their plans succeeded in keeping their father off their trail, they are also the exact events that led to the Blood War.

Mikael Mikaelson

LinkMikael is far stronger than all of his children, other than Drake. He was believed to be a prideful man in his life as a human, pride that shifted into anger and vengeance upon being made a vampire. He has short brown hair that he often keeps swept back, is about 6' tall, and is in his mid 50's. He doesn't care about the lives of the innocent or any who get in his way during the hunt for his children. He has been tracking his children nonstop since he decided they needed to die and stops to kill any vampires he finds along the way, often by drinking from them. His his incredible strength and speed is largely in part born from drinking exclusively vampire and werewolf blood. He will go to any extent to kill a vampire and has gone as far as to burn down entire cities to get to them but has so far not succeeded in killing any of his children. Needless to say he has never turned another person into a vampire unlike his children resulting in only five bloodlines despite there being six originals. Despite being an original just like his children he is easily capable of defeating all but one of them, due to him having been far stronger than them as humans. The one child he cannot defeat with ease is Drake, his step son. Even then, Mikael is often viewed as being mildly stronger (or at least more skilled) than his step step, as most fights end with Drake being forced to retreat.

Drake Mikaelson

LinkDrake is not born from Mikael though he was born from Mikael's wife. He appears around 28 years old, has light five 'clock shadow, shortish brown hair and is very well built while being 5'11". During the middle years of Mikael's marriage his wife slept with another man...a werewolf. Drake was born with the werewolf gene, dormant inside him. When Drake's mother made their family vampires Drake was successfully made a vampire and, upon his first kill as a vampire, his werewolf gene was triggered. This revealed to Mikael of his wife's betrayal and resulted in Drake becoming Mikael's primary target. It is because he is a hybrid that he is capable of fighting his supernatural blood drinking father on relatively equal terms, however every time they meet Drake still genuinely fears for his life...something few beings are capable of making him feel. Drake's blood is also a universal cure to all werewolf inflicted wounds. He can make other hybrids at will who, thanks to a form of sire bond, will almost always be completely loyal to him. He can make humans into vampires and werewolves into hybrids. Only Drake can make hybrids because of his blood and all hybrids he turns are completely loyal to him. He very openly turns others into vampires, often simply to watch what happens, though he rarely turns hybrids and is quite selective in choosing those he turns into one. He also has all of the strengths and none of the weaknesses of the two species, meaning he can't be killed by the sun, stakes, vervain, wolfsbane, nothing. Both himself and the hybrids he creates can only be killed through decapitation or removal of their heart.

Any vampire that he did not personally turn he will never allow into his clan and he has no qualms killing other vampires or humans for that matter as he has no regard for the lives of others. Drake has a strained relationship with his other siblings who have more or less abandoned him for his hunger for power and heavy belief in self preservation during his run from their father. They try to avoid interacting with him but somehow or another it always happens. He has a very short temper, is very sadistic, egotistic, and is very arrogant. Drake almost always resorts immediately to murder or in the case of his siblings temporary neutralization when he is so much as mildly agitated. This and his strength has led to his siblings fearing him and his rage, trying to always stay on his good side when in his presence. Though he has this nature he still loves his family, though he will not hesitate but to neutralize them if he feels they betray him or do not live up to his expectations. He does however maintain a somewhat good yet strained relationship with his brother Elijah, largely in part because Elijah has tried continuously to reform his brother into a more noble man and he refuses to give up on family. He is also highly protective of his little sister Katerina, while he never did care much for his brother Finn as he is too "nice" and his youngest sibling Kol he is mostly indifferent to. He heavily believes in dealing with his siblings himself and in his own way resulting in the ruthless murder of anyone who gets in the way of his family matters. Despite his cold nature towards them if anyone touches his family he shows no mercy, only blind and ruthless rage. Drake has the strongest of the five bloodlines because of his hybrid blood, which in turn makes vampires descended from his inherently stronger than vampires descended from his siblings. His bloodline is the 3rd largest of the five bloodlines.
2280 BR birth year

Elijah Mikaelson

LinkElijah is the oldest Mikaelson sibling. He appears as being about 32 years old, is 6'0" tall, is very clean shaven at all times, and has well groomed black hair. He is the only one of the original siblings to not fear Drake or their father in anyway and will even fight them actively if need be. He is also the only one of all the siblings who values all life and tries to avoid taking it whenever possible though if a situation calls for it he does not hesitate but to kill. He will even stand up for others in certain situations, even if it means fighting his own half brother Drake or his father who wouldn't hesitate but to kill him. Though not as physically powerful as Drake or his father, Elijah can still hold his own against them for a short time due to his sheer fighting ability which far exceeds either of them, a rather impressive feat for anyone. He is a very honest and loyal man, always holding to his word unless given reason not to such as someone else not living up to a deal they make with him. He is very intelligent, calm, composed and collected with a rather long fuse so he's hard to anger unlike his half brother Drake. He's very gentlemanly and chivalrous a majority of the time, and he almost always dresses in a suit. To Elijah family is the most important thing possible in the world and he will go to any lengths to protect and defend it. He is looked up to by his other siblings, excluding Drake, as the moral and noble sibling. Elijah has the second strongest bloodline but his is also the smallest bloodline over all, as ever since the earliest centuries of their lives as vampires he hasn't turned nearly as many humans as his siblings.
2284 BR birth

Finn Mikaelson

Finn, the second born original, was far more serious than is other siblings. While at first he was open with being a vampire, turning people often and extending a bloodline from himself, he came to loathe himself for what he and his siblings had become after nearly 1000 years living as vampires. Ironically, despite his new found hatred of vampires and himself, he had turned far more individuals than any of his siblings during their lives up to that point...even if you were to combine all the vampires any two of his siblings had sired up to that point, Finn still would have turned notably more. Not long after deciding he no longer wished to be a vampire he tracked down their father, Mikael, which wasn't hard since he really only needed to backpedal. He requested to Mikael that he allows him to take his own life so he may die with honor. His father accepted (granted after much convincing) and gave Finn one of the two white oak stakes, the only specialized weapon capable of killing an Original, and used it to take his own life. Their siblings arrived to attempt and stop Finn from doing this but were too late and engaged in a fight with their father, one that they narrowly escaped with their lives...and one of the white oak stakes, the very one Finn killed himself with in fact. He was 6'2" tall, well built and slim with swept back dark brown hair appearing to be around 31 years old. He is the only original who is no longer alive. Finn has the third strongest (and the largest) bloodline.
2283 BR birth

Katerina Mikaelson

LinkKaterina is the youngest original sibling and only daughter that was born to the Mikaelson's. She is the only female original and thereby the oldest female vampire, thus she is by all rights the High Queen of all vampires. She enjoys and relishes in the perks of being a vampire. She has long, wavy ice blonde hair and is very attractive with alluring lascivious curves, a trait that draws men to her regularly so she doesn't have to go far to feed as she pleases. She is 5'7" inches tall. While she doesn't relish in violence like her half brother Drake and she doesn't avoid it when possible like her brother Elijah she is rather indifferent about violence, using violence when it benefits her. She is still young in biological age however, only being 20, so she still has a mindset not that different from an irresponsible teenage girl. She often wonders what it would be like to have a normal life again but never really acts on it. Her brother Drake is actually very protective of her and often kills men who she seems to feel for, regardless of who they are, which has resulted in Katerina developing a cruel, cold, aggressive shell to hide her true, emotionally fragile self. In life the two were best of friends and she adored Drake, but obviously that all changed when they became vampires. Because of her longing for love however she gets jealous when she sees others in relationships, especially those involving a vampire, finding it hard to even fathom how a vampire could have a relationship. In addition she heavily believes that females must stick together, likely in part due to the fact that she longs to have legitimate friendships and relationships but every male she gets attached to ends up dead or ends up betraying her...then ends up dead. She loves her siblings other than Drake, whom she has a very tense love-hate relationship with. She fears her brother Drake more than her other siblings fear him, especially when he's angry. Due to the way she has been treated by her older brother the vampire is also actually very dependent on her brothers, particularly the manipulative Drake and the noble Elijah, and is quick to look to one of them in times of need. Katerina has the weakest bloodline, while being the 4th largest bloodline.
2272 BR birth

Kol Mikaelson

Finally there's LinkKol, the youngest male original at only 23. He looks much like his older brother Elijah, just younger with a lean athletic build. He is 6'1" tall and emotionally unstable resulting in him seeming to be bipolar, quickly going from a kinder nature to murderous. He loves violence much like his older half brother Drake, is very egotistic and arrogant, is very unreasonable and loves to break rules. Not only this but he enjoys the pain of others. Kol is actually part of the reason vampires became known throughout the world, before Samuel Mason ruined that fact that is, turning people and murdering them often before his equally violent brother Drake began to join in on the murder and turning as well. The youngest brother of the Mikaelson family is actually often considered even more volatile than Drake in terms of just how violent he can be, though he's always had a soft spot for witches as before becoming a vampire he actually practiced magic which he had inherited form his mother. To this day he still studies and practices what magic he can, and is actually quite powerful, though he is cut off from the magics he once studied as a human due to him now being a vampire. He still cares intensely for family and was enraged when his brother Finn killed himself, ultimately leading Kol to slaughter and burn down an entire small town nearby where his brother died. Kol has the fourth strongest bloodline, being the 2nd largest of the five bloodlines.
2275 BR birth

Weaknesses

All of the surviving siblings (Drake, Elijah, Katerina, and Kol), despite not always seeing eye to eye, care for family and often where one original is present the others are likely not too far off. The sun does not kill them nor does the bite of a werewolf and they heal even quicker than their creations, though these traits passed on to the first few generations after them. It is believed impossible to kill an original as their bodies are hypothesized to be nearly indestructible, meaning you can't remove the heart or cut off their heads except through the most powerful of ways. There is only one weapon that is known to be able to truly kill them for good and that's the two white oak stakes that their father made before they burned down the tree. Only these exact white oak stakes can kill them, one of which the siblings locked away at an unknown location, though they always keep it close to them in case their father comes knocking. Their father carries the second stake on him at all times. Once their father is disposed of they will likely burn both stakes but as of right now they need it to defend themselves from him.

There are however a few means to neutralize them temporarily. One is the same as any other vampire, which is snapping their neck. Another is staking them with a normal wood item in the heart which would "kill" them for a few hours. The third is to prevent them from drinking blood which would cause them to desiccate into essentially a mummy just like other vampires or use a spell that would simulate it. The fourth and only other way is to use one of five enchanted daggers. These daggers were named the White Oak daggers by the witch who created them, a friend of Esther (the mother of the Originals). They were created as a means to neutralize the originals once they burned down the white oak tree. The dagger must be plunged into the heart of the target and left there forever. If the dagger is removed the original will awake a little while later. The originals got their hands on all five of these daggers but lacked the ability to destroy them, so each sibling personally possesses one of them. What the siblings do with these daggers and where they keep them, on their person or hidden elsewhere, is unknown. The location of Finn's White Oak Dagger is also unknown, though it is likely that Drake took possession of it. These daggers would have the same effect on Methuselah, even though they were created to be used on the originals specifically, and would be capable of killing normal vampires. Because of his hybrid nature Drake is immune to the daggers, though the White Oak stake can kill him (and is also his only known weakness, other than blood deprivation).
