General History of Oranjekatten (1753 - Present)

CREATION OF THE ORE-ANG CHAT TERRITORIE
In 1753, the Honden Confederacy established the Ore-ang Chat Territorie in an attempt to ease tensions that at the time were rising due to the marginalization of Oranjkats. The territory was predominately populated by Oranjkats, however the territorial government mainly consisted of Honden-appointed magistrates none of which were ethically Oranjkaten. The administrative center was selected to be Odeewerpen, the largest city in the territory. The Honden Senate, located in Hondenstad, enacted multiple laws to ensure that Oranjkaten rights were limited.

RISING TENSIONS & JOHANNES ARBOEK'S ACCOUNT
The tension between Hondens and Oranjkats became more prominent in 1797 when the Honden Army was deployed into the Oranjkat-majority province to protect the governor, a Honden, from the growing protests against his leadership. As the Honden soldiers were stationed in towns and cities, many reports of attacks by the soldiers became common. These reports angered more Oranjkats who took to the streets to protest against what they considered were injustices. In 1798, Johannes Arboek, an Oranjkat professor at the City University of Odeewerpen, published his account, On Thee Ore-ang Chat Territorie. His account spread all throughout the territory and he quickly became popular among Oranjkats for his suggestion that they declare independence from the Honden Confederacy. According to Arboek, if the Honden Confederacy refused to grant them independence, they should then wage war to secure their freedoms. This message quickly became popular, but the Oranjkats decided that war should be the first course of action rather than request independence.

ARBOEK'S REBELLION
As tensions were at an all time high, the Oranjkats had become fed up with the Honden Confederacy's mistreatment of their people, rights, and territory. Johannes Arboek, now a popular figure in the Oranjkat territory, armed himself and recruit dozens to fight against the Honden Army. Arboek's Army began to march to the village of Arlendorp where an armory existed. There they began to arm themselves heavily, but the Honden Army was quickly approaching and on 25 November, 1800, the Freedom War began with the Battle of Arlendorp Armory. The Honden Army, much more experienced than Arboek's men, quickly secured the armory and took control of the village. Johannes Arboek was captured and several of his men killed, resulting in a growing call to arms for Oranjkats throughout the territory.

ORANJKATEN FREEDOM WAR
With Arboek's capture and the death of several Oranjkatens at the Battle of Arlendorp Armory, most Oranjkats became fearful and outraged.
