These species come from the world of Genshisei, which fused with Earth after the Cruel Bombs. It comprises every species capable of language that isn’t human. Kakureta is the human term used for them, as they were invisible until recently. Some kakureta dislike the term and wish to change it to Kyōkara (鏡から), The mirrored ones, instead, with Kyō(mirror) referring to their home world of Genshisei

Reikon | 霊魂 - 37%
The Spirits

The larger group of Kakureta, the Reikon. They look similar to humans, sometimes with additional appendages like horns, tails, or extra limbs, eyes, and mouths, but they are unrelated. Their bodies are lighter than humans, able to phase through most materials, and usually only appear as black and white, with other colours mostly concealed. Young Reikon start out almost transparent, generally floating around dark and rural areas away from humans, such as forests, caves, and mountains, however they tend to become more 'solid' as they mature, typically once they've found their 'sense of self' or jikaku (自覚). Some also have suspended 'extensions' which aren't physically connected to their bodies, but always follow them, these artifacts grow alongside the Reikon and can be utilised for self defense.

Reikon are much more active during the night, usually when most humans are asleep. They are also biologically immortal. While they can be knocked out and lay dormant, Reikon can only truly be killed by other Reikon or through specific metals made to seal them. While there are a multitude of Reikon classes and species with their own unique traits, for the purposes of this general list, the Reikon will be generally categorized into two main groups.

• Mireikon (実霊魂) - 29%. Complete Reikon. Over a 80% of Reikon have been able to integrate fully into human society, able to suppress most of their uncanny characteristics, at least while in public, leaving them basically as translucent glowing humans with a few different features. Mireikon are often treated equally by humans, as they both share very similar appearances. Mireikon fuse some specific materials within their bodies to aid in their suppression of unwanted traits. Typically hard, natural materials like ivory, amber, or bone. These process, while useful in hiding these traits, result in the Reikon replacing their extremities with a similar substance, such as their fingers, toes, and horns.

• Kureikon (空霊魂) - 8%. Hollow Reikon. While they are legally part of Hanabi’s society, their unnatural appearance causes some humans to instinctively avoid them and treat them worse compared to other Reikon. This can include exaggerated facial features, typically eyes and mouths, additional limbs, or contorting themselves beyond human biology. Some gather and populate abandoned homes, giving them shelter while avoiding others. Some think that all kureikon will eventually transform to mireikon, yet claims of actual evidence of this change are rare and unreliable.

Note: There are many kureikon that are not counted here (even if they would have the intelligence to be considered such) due to them not properly integrated into society and sustaining themselves on humans or other Kakureta

Youki | 陽気 - 35%
The Elated

These are creatures whose appearance is between that of humans and animals. They are a diverse group and their behavior changes wildly between each type. In contrast to Reikon which usually appear cold and reserved, Youki are very expressive, often celebrating various festivals depending on their kind, thus, they are known as the elated.

The most common of the Youki appear mammalian in appearance and they live on land. These tend to be the most energetic of this, typically very determined but also playful and lively within their communities. Hence, they are associated with the classical element of fire (火). Kayouki typically have their true form which resembles closely to normal animals, and their humanoid form which is typically used when conversing with humans. These humanoid forms often retain the Youki's most prominent features, typically their ears and tails

• Inugami (犬神) - 9%. Lupine Spirits. Their appearance is similar to dogs or wolves in their normal state. When in their humanoid form, they can read, write and converse with humans perfectly. Inugami are very cooperative and loyal to their pack, often prioritizing the well-being of others in the group before their own. The more powerful an inugami is, their tails tend to get longer and fluffier. Humans and inugami often have good relations with each other, with many cases of performing magical pacts with humans. The inugami would get to live in the human household, being regularly fed and sheltered, while they drive out any evil or mischievous Kakureta, such as…

•Kitsune (狐神) - 8%. Vulpine Spirits. Similarly, kitsune look like foxes normally but can turn into a human form. In contrast to Inugami, who usually hunt together in packs within the woods, kitsune hunt alone, using their trickery and deception to pick of groups of prey one by one. Due to their well-known mischievous nature, some are experts at hiding their fox-like characteristics when trying to get trick others. Kitsune can also form magical pacts with humans, although they tend to be deceptive deals that causes the humans to lose their belongings or, occasionally, their life energy to the kitsune. You can tell how powerful they are by their tails, a more powerful kitsune has a higher number of tails

•Nekomata (猫又) - 6%. Feline spirits. Most of these Youki resemble house cats, although some have characteristics of larger cats like tigers, lynx, cheetahs, or panthers. Unlike the prior two Kayouki who often converse regularly with humans, nekomata tend to keep to themselves, warding off anyone that may intrude their home. Nekomata tend to live in hills and mountains, isolating themselves from others, although this has started to change recently as cities continue to expand outward towards nekomata territory. Similar to Kitsune , powerful nekomata tend to have more tails as their power grows.

•Other Kayouki - 3%. Other types of Kayouki exist throughout Atarashi Hanabi, including the rabbit-like Gyokuto (玉兎), and the horse-like bakotsu (馬骨) to name a few

Fuyouki | 風陽気 - 7%
The Everdrifting [lit. Elated Air]

Yukigako

Kin'u

Avian and insectoid yōki that can fly, associated with the classical element of air (風). These tend to be on the smaller end of the group, with most fuyouki being around half the size of the average human. Alongside their light weight, they also have the ability to swirl the winds (uzumaku | 渦巻く) to guide the them towards their planned destination. Because of this, they are able to fly with minimal effort, and often drifting across the Hanabian landscape, rarely staying in one place for too long.

•Yukigako (雪蛾子) - 3%. Snow Moth Spirits. They appear as small moths with a fluffy white coat, protecting them from the harsh winters of the northern parts of Hanabi. Their humanoid form appears childlike in their demeanor and their height, averaging about 3 ft tall. Their wings grow proportionately when they switch to this form, meaning they can fly why appearing human, although with more effort and less airtime than in their true form. As an abundant species in the Northern towns, they tend to be 'adopted' into households, able to provide warmth by redirecting cold wind away, and aiding loneliness when houses are buried during snowstorms and blizzards.

•Other Fuyouki - 4%. Aside from the yukigako, Fūyōki include such creatures like the crow-like kin'u (金烏), and firefly-like hotaru (蛍神).

Aquatic Youki that live underwater, mostly along rivers and coastlines. As such, they are linked with the classical element of water (水). Unlike the previous two Youki classes, only a few Suiyouki have a humanoid form, as they have to stay in water in their animalistic form to survive. Some can walk on land, however, they have to return to water within the same day. This group of Youki tend to stay where constant in their habitat, rarely leaving beyond a certain point, while also having some of the largest beings, including the sea dragon wani (和邇).

While the population was still within Genshisei, most humans learnt to control the primordial forces within, with fields of study formed dedicated to learning this magic, although not to the same extent as Kakureta. Besides that, these are just normal humans, with minimal differences from those outside Atarashi Hanabi.

Kossetsu | 骨折 - 2%
The Fractured

(Ningen x Reikon)

Formed from an unnatural relationship between a human and a kakureta. Most of these tend to be from relations with inugami or kitsune, as they tend to have the closest relationships to humans, although a few are from mireikon as well. These ‘hybrids’ are seen as abominations in most parts of the Realm, and any that are found tend to be exiled. Most of the kossetsu population gathered within Narakita, the Northernmost region of Hanabi, as the populace there tend to be more lenient of these hybrids. Fortunately, most of them tend to grow up into one of their parent's species and gain their traits during puberty, losing the other gradually, and can likely adapt to outside society afterwards, albeit with more effort than most.
