BOROVNIK
FIREARMS

est. 1848

Officially branded Ludvik Borovnik after the unbroken line of father-son proprietors bearing the
name, Borovnik is, together with Fanzoj, a true heir to Borovlje gunsmithing against the commercial
excesses of Zlatorog. A Borovnik gun is nearly entirely handmade over a process lasting years,
eventually producing custom-made weapons so famous that even the Houses of Bourbon and
Habsburg have numbered among Borovnik's clients.

FANZOJ
FIREARMS

est. 1906

A more authentic heir to Borovlje's gunsmithing tradition than the commercialized Zlatorog firm,
the workshops of the Fanzoj family have long produced ornate long guns for privileged buyers.
Much akin to the Borovnik company of the same town, Fanzoj produces firearms characterized by
intricately engraved designs and expertly shapen wood. With Fanzoj-branded guns on the mantles
of some of the most prominent Slovenians, a true Fanzoj is elegance cast in weapon form.

ZLATOROG
FIREARMS

est. 1945 [🜇]

After independence, Slovenia stared down the nearby SFR Yugoslavia as an inherent threat to its
existence; it sought earnestly to foster an indigenous weapons-making industry and looked to the
traditional gunsmiths of the Carinthian town of Borovlje as a foundation. A state partnership with
hunting rifle maker Janež Krajnc formed Zlatorog—named for the mythical Slovene creature—
in Borovlje in the autumn of 1945; groundbreaking for a factory there began the following spring.
In spite of initial struggles, it eventually produced a sturdy battle rifle for the Slovenian Armed
Forces and has remained a competitive armaments maker in days since.
