OOC: Notes on History

The pre-history of Calenmor works with the assumption that in the world in which it exists some historical version of the events mythologized in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and R.E. Howard actually took place and attempts to place my fictional nation within that context without significantly impacting the events of those tales. Likewise, there are other stories that could be assumed to have happened in some sense such as many Red Sonja tales, 13th Warrior, that "King Arthur" movie, etc. but have little real bearing on Calenmor. As a timeline note, the period of people first moving into the region is assumed to have taken place around roughly just after the time that Tolkien places the meeting of the "Elves" and "Men" based on backtracking from the time period that he noted the beginning of the 4th age as occurring.

The "Recorded History" period makes reference to several historical points but uses Bangalam transliteration of english versions the actual names. Partly this is because I speak english, though I may decide to edit them to their original forms at a later date. The conversion to Bangalam is both to present things from the Calenmori point of view and to keep the events as "Real World Neutral" as possible while still putting the fictional nation's history in historical context.
