Buffing Up the Space Brigade: Extraterrestrial Combat Imminent?

After much debate within the Ministry of Defense, and a fair amount of consultation with Teh Doctah himself, General Albert Rassilon announced today that the Whovian Space Brigade will soon undergo a large "beefing up" initiative, with new classes of military spaceships already beginning development. The names and specifications of these vessels have not been released, but the General stated that "These will not be designed under the same principles as the TT Capsules; they will be more conventional ships, with no interior expansion." The General also said that "They [the ships] will serve to diversify the Brigade's fleet, and allow them to adapt to more combat situations than the Capsules did." When asked about the fate of the current fleet, he answered that "The old TTs will still find a purpose in this new fleet. What that is, I cannot disclose at this time."

Some citizens are happy that the Space Brigade is receiving more funding, mainly due to the fact that more ships will mean more recruits. "I've always wanted to go into space," commented current Air Force pilot Jarrett White, "but science has never really been my thing. Besides, those stuffy lab coats barely ever leave orbit. The Brigade's ranks have been stagnant for years, so I haven't been able to get a spot. But new ships mean new pilots... I'm transferring the first chance I get!" Several of Mr. White's squad mates agreed with him, so there may be a possibility that the Air Force will be seeking new members as well.

Others, however, are worried that expanding the Space Brigade will lead to Whovian Tardisia becoming involved in far-flung, alien conflict, or drawing such conflict to Mithrandir. "I tell ya, it's a bad idea." commented Mr. Needham, a prolific Post contributor. "One minute it's 'look at us, protectors of the galaxy!' and so on, and the next minute the Daleks are knocking on our door again. The Second fall was just a roving raider force, but if they think we're a threat... well, let's just say we won't be for much longer."

Whatever the outcome, the Space Brigade's expansion is sure to be a major point in the current age of Whovian history, and may well lead to a new one. Watch this space for further word on the project, and be sure to keep picking up the Post!
