People & Senate of Infernia

The People and Senate of Infernia (Infernian: Populus Senatusque Infernus), also known as the Hexakosioihexekontahexa Orchestra, is the UPI’s legislative body and consists of 666 members. Half are appointed by the rulers of their respective principalities, and hold all of the diet's political power. The other half, who have only advisory tasks and serve three-year terms, are elected by citizens the principalities. Senators are required to be citizens of the principality they represent, a minimum twenty years of age, and literate. Senators/Senatrices are drawn from each principality based on population and presided over by a speaker who is elected from among the Senate's members. The Senate carries out the country’s main consultative duties and has both a legislative and supervisory role provided by the Constitution. Voting is compulsory for all citizens above the age of twenty.

The People and Senate of Infernia are responsible under the Constitution for examining, and, if it wishes, amending, all proposed federal legislation to suit the needs of the citizens which they represent, and is empowered to summon and to question any Federal Minister regarding Ministry performance.
