In Mantesa, secretary Vila decides to intervene to stop her daughters crying. Carefully, she sneaks the Khazar Lechian newspaper that contained the news of Octavius' trial. Mrs. Vila doesn't see what happens inside the room, she just hears how the crying stops and how it is followed by an extatic gasp. Minutes later, her daughter, Maria, beautiful, with her black hair and dark eyea, is smiling in the living room, with a suitcase at her right. Her mother smiles before Maria can speak and says "Yeah, you can go. But keep your cell phone with you at all costs"
Maria kisses her mother , says "Thanks" and then rushes out of the house. A few minutes later, Maria gets off a taxi in front of a college residence. He runs to a particular room and quickly knocks on the door. A tall, blonde, 22 year old, opens the door. He is still sleepy and in his underwear. "What are you doing here?" Asks the young man. Maria bursts into the room and says "Carl, we are going to Khazar Lechia!"
She explains the situation to Carl, who immediatly packs his things and dresses up. Both leave the room, followed by the suspecting eyes of the whole building, and take another taxi to the airport.
A few hours later, Maria and Carl land in Khazar Lechia
Lawyer: "Listen... You didn't tell me your version yet... I need to know your version and what you will say and what will be your defence... Do you even plead guilty or innocent?"
The enforcers on the border ask them their IDs. They explain them that security got tighter since the entire enforcement got better funding. They even changed the phrase from "Our law is not influenced by external ideas" to "Our law is the only thing that matters within the borders in all legal matters... If you die here, then your country won't help". It's unknown if this new phrase is official or not, but even if not, then it's a bit unsettling...
After that they are checked very personally, not only by scanners, but also by designated people, with normal in Khazar Lechia lack of privacy. The only exception being that only officers are present during all that. Surprisingly or not they are not returned any of their things, aside from clothes and legal documents. When asked, enforcers say "procedures changed. You will be returned all that after you return to the border, or in case of migration, they will be collectible in Mantesan embassy..."
Some people are outraged at this, but enforcers cannot be stopped on this side of the border...
Lawyer: "There is no such term in our law... I would need explanation... You're still avoiding my question..."
Carl is one of the outraged ones. He walks up to a guard and says "Return us our clothes, you thief, or I will..." Carl lifts his fist in a menacing way, but his strike is stopped by Maria. She calms Carl, and then turns to the guard, smiling, and says "I am sorry for my friend's rudeness. Would you be kind enough to tell us where this trial will take place." Says Maria showing the newspaper to the enforcer
Guards arrest Carl with no hesitation. Not to mention they do it very violently... There is much blood, which is 100% his own, as guards are fully armored. The guard Maria talked to doesn't participate in this though. "You were obviously returned your clothes. This was unacceptable, but he won't be punished, nor face any trial. He was arrested as a form of prevention. He will be free in 24 hours miss..." he explains, not knowing she was talking about Octavius' trial...
"A passional crime is a crime commited under the influx of passion. As you may know, Love or Fury can sometimes be more harmful to reason than drugs or alcohol. But, since that term isn't registered in your law, I plead guilty of none of the charges. I didn't sneak into the palace, only into the room. The guard at the gate let me inside, since he recognised me. I didn't destroy any evidence, therefore there is no crime. Attempted escape is also a fictitious crime. I was allowed full mobility within the palace, and in no moment did I leave the palace. As for swaying a guard into a crime... well that is a longer story. Let's just say I didn't know the laws and in no moment did I pressure him. I just made a request that was denied. Last but not least, destruction of property, I assume it is refered to the table from which i unscrewed a leg. Thus, no property was harmed, it was only altered"
Lawyer: "This is almost undefendable claim... Being let in doesn't mean no crime... That means only more crime... The guard did a crime along with you... You burned a letter deemed possible evidence... It is recorded... Prisoners are often allowed walks, but only when they are specifically told that. At the moment you were not, or at least we have no evidence of it... Unless you do... Not knowong a law or doing it under influence of drugs, alcohol or emotions, as long as you weren't forced to it, doesn't make it less of a crime... The opposote actually... It makes it worse as you are deemed unstable and thus dangerous... Unscrewing a leg from a table is what counts as low damage, but such a thing shouldn't be penalised..."
Enforcer: "There is no such thing... It's not monopoly... You can't buy a card that says get out of jail..."
Lawyer thinks for a second. Looks up all documents she has with her, then says: "Kowtow... Flat to the ground... Then say Adonai-Rohi Elohim-Tsidkenu HaShem-Roi... This will give you immediate respect of all three judges. After that plead guilty of everything. Don't use any language other than greek that you are using now. Even for a single sentence don't change the language... When you finnish every answer say Baruch HaShem or Kadosh Elohim... Use all arguments of little damage being done and do your best to show remorse for all you did and show them you are not dangerous. Prove them you are the opposite... Show them your weakness, but don't get emotional. Emotions are frowned upon in court... Be very formal and always to the point and strict. If you don't know an answer to something, then say that you don't know. Don't lie... If you can't prove something, then don't bring it up. Don't accuse people that may help you, including that guard who shot you. You can ask questions to witnesses and all the other charged people, which is not commonly used, but cannot be forbidden... You can accuse a judge of being partial, but don't... If you accuse the khan of it, you will be delegated to God and that means death... That law is icky... I made sure two other judges are the best we have... Tell them that you are not from here and you just wish to find home... That may get you deported to a nation which doesn't forbid the things you did... Probably Dorsla... Do you object to anything?"
Octavius doesn't answer. In his mind, a battle is being fought. Honor against life. He frowns his brows and closes his eyes. It's a battle too big for the few force he has got left. All his body freezes. His hands stop moving. His skin turns pale. All the energy in his body is being directed to the place where the great battle is being fought. After five minutes of thinking he talks to the lawyer. He doesn't even move. He doesn't even blink. "Could you please leave me alone for a sec?". Those words emerge from his mouth as from a well. He then keeps on thinking.
Meanwhile, in the airport, Maria has already found out where Octavius is. He takes a taxi at the airport and tells it to go to the containment facility. "I will give you twice the money if you get me there in less than ten minutes!" says the girl. Soon, she is at the gate of the facility. "May I see this prisoner?" Says Maria, nervous and exhausted, showing the photo from Octavius he found on the newspaper. "Please, may I see him?"
There is no road leading to the facility, thus the entire trip is a drive through the wild steppes in a car that didn't look like a car fit for such a ride... Nevertheless the car manages to do it very well, the only problem is that comfort of the driver is not something valued in cars in Khazar Lechia, as people use cars for action and animals or legs for comfort... At best they use trains, which are very expensive and few...
Enforcer checks some data on his phone, which is tied by a chain to his arm "Do you have anything that can prove us his true identity? We can't allow unknown people visit unknown people... We would need your ID too..."
OOC: If they had legal documents with them, they still have them. Enforcers can't legally take legal documents from someone without giving them back in a set amount of time, which is very short...
OOC: We donít allow everything in Dorsla. If Octavius were to trespass on someoneís property there, he would be arrested on sight and immediately taken to court. However, you are correct in assuming that we do not punish criminals as severely as any other nation might. We merely incarcerate them in a facility and force them to do community service. Any misbehavior will result in an extension to their sentence, or more community service.
OOC: Also, maybe I should cut Octavius some slack. He did lose a lot of blood and is still somewhat delirious. Maybe he does know how trials work......under more precedented circumstances, anyway.
"Yes, here" Maria handles her passport to the guard. She is still recomposing herself after the crazy car ride, but she is too nervous. Her hands shake and her mind steams with ideas and terrible thoughts. The time the guard spends checking the passport feels like an eternity to Maria. Every second feels like a year. Every minute feels like a century. She stands there, in front of the bureaucrat, playing with her fingers nervously.
Guard: "I still need something that would prove to us the identity of the prisoner... We need at least your official declaration..."
"I didn't bring any proof... I just thought he might be a friend. But I am not sure at all. That's why I came here"
