It's the first time I had ever heard of the Cristero war or Saint Joselito (I read up on him on wikipedia but even still what it says there about his matyrdom is so much he went through at such a young age for the faith.) and also Blessed Miguel pro. It doesn't say anything about them in this specific song but that's how I learned about these martyrs and that period of Mexican history.

One of my all time favorite songs by Vicente Fernandez and in general. And now I have to add the Anima Christi songs to my playlist. Music is definitely an important way of getting closer to the faith.

God allows us to be close to Him like a child is to his Father. God listens to us, and it's beautiful that He does so, that we can tell Him what goes on in our lives and just be at peace. Isn't it then also beautiful when we are silent like a child sitting on the floor listening to our a Father who sits in His rocking chair speak gently to us. It's beautiful when we can be silent and listen to God.

Also something I find interesting. In the Our Father when we say thy and thou those words thy and thou are actually the forms of you and your that back when they were used were informal and used only for those close to you like a family member or a friend. It's similar to the difference between using Vous and Tu in French if anyone ever studied that. Of course Vous can be plural or singular while Tu is simply singular but my point is the same Thou is for people close to you, while the word you is used for formal occasions despite our modern day thinking that thou is formal. It's quite interesting.

Edit: I found some nice oboe music from the movie "The Mission:  https://youtu.be/2WJhax7Jmxs

Celtic of Glasgow have been awarded Scotland's premiership soccer title.

The Catholic side were on the brink of winning 9 titles in a row when Corona panic kicked in, threatening a void season. Now Celtic can aim for an unprecedented 10 in a row next season.

10 in a row is significant not just numerically. Celtic achieved 9 in a row before but this was matched by Rangers in the 1990s as they embarked on 2 decades of financial skullduggery which would eventually lead to their liquidation.

10 in row for Celtic would be a target Rangers could never match, having died in June 2012 the dead club can never achieve anything ever again.

The nominal Rangers club that presents itself as Rangers is absolutely not Rangers. It (and further reincarnations!) was created in another act of financial skullduggery aimed at convincing certain individuals that their glorious club would live forever.

Adding to Protestant woes, the mini huns of Hearts have been duly relegated.

Under the British border in England things are looking very nervy for another club of Protestant heritage. Liverpool FC (which lives off some fame it acquired in the days of black & white tv) were set to win their first ever premier league (and their first league title since Hannibal crossed the Alps) but are now facing the possibility of a void season as proposed restarts keep being put back.

In Portuguese we always only refer to God (and sometimes to His Mother as well) as 'vós' ('you'), never 'tu'. The reason for that is, because Portuguese was held to be merely a dialect of Latin up until the 12th century, an official translation only emerged after feudal etiquette was codified; the Aenglisc version, on the other hand, is as early as the christening of the Anglo-Saxons in the eight century, before the T-V distinction was established. Still, later Magisterium has embraced the gentle simplicity of the latter phrasing.

"Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God's heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart." -St. Padre Pio

"Some people are so foolish that they think they can go through life without the help of the Blessed Mother. Love the Madonna and pray the rosary, for her Rosary is the weapon against the evils of the world today. All graces given by God pass through the Blessed Mother.” -St. Padre Pio

"Go to the Madonna. Love her! Always say the Rosary. Say it well. Say it as often as you can! Be souls of prayer. Never tire of praying, it is what is essential. Prayer shakes the Heart of God, it obtains necessary graces!” -St. Padre Pio

Give me an army saying the Rosary and I will conquer the world.” – Blessed Pope Pius IX

“Say the Holy Rosary. Blessed be that monotony of Hail Mary’s which purifies the monotony of your sins!” -St. Josemaria Escriva

“For those who use their intelligence and their study as a weapon, the Rosary is most effective. Because that apparently monotonous way of beseeching Our Lady as children to their Mother, can destroy every seed of vainglory and pride.” – St. Josemaria Escriva

“You always leave the Rosary for later, and you end up not saying it at all because you are sleepy. If there is no other time, say it in the street without letting anybody notice it. It will, moreover, help you to have presence of God.” – St. Josemaria Escriva

I was going to post this via my "The Pilgrims in the desert" nation but saw a St. Patrick quote and was like "I gotta use the nation with the St. Patrick flag."

If Jesus turned water into the finest wine ever, imagine when we devote our lives to Him, what beauty that brings.

Mother Mary loves us dearly, at the wedding feast of Cana when she saw the wine had run out she asked Jesus to help. So too when we ask Mary to pray for us, she will because she loves us so much.

Mother Mary is like the moon. The moon is not a source of light but reflects the light from the sun. So too does Mary reflect the beauty of God. She may not be God but she is the highest creature.

How beautiful it is when one has a strong faith, for not even the entirety of the darkness in the world can put out a single candle. (Yes this is a twist on St. Francis of Assisi's quote. Between St. Francis and St. Thomas Aquinas I can't really say who's had more of an influence on my life. Learning about St. Thomas Aquinas made me realize there is reason to the faith but learning about St. Francis of Assisi helped me realize that a Saint's life is possible.)

It was pride that changed angels into devils; it is humility that makes men as angels. -St. Augustine

Christ beside me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me. -St. Patrick

I am Patrick, a sinner, most uncultivated and least of all the faithful and despised in the eyes of many. - St. Patrick

That last quote reminded me of a prayer popular in the East: Lord Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner. Amen.

It isn't just asking for mercy on the fact that you sin but also asking Jesus to guide you away from your tendency to want to sin.

I agree very strongly with Pope Francis call for universal basic income. It would be the resurgence of free speech and preaching the word would become more common as losing your job for speaking the truth would no longer be so horrific as you would still have a reasonable income without work. There are also people around the world who are unemployed by the worldly sense but who are in reality working for God by spreading his word and those people deserve to be funded.

Of course there are going to be people who just sit around and never work a day in their lives but there are some jobs out there right now that I wouldn't call productive at the least (bankers, administrators, callcenter workers, salesmen etc.) so there wouldn't be much of a difference. Being unemployed for most people is fun for maybe a week or two but as most of us know after those two weeks you start getting tired of it so I couldn't see it lowering employment rate but rather improve working conditions since now the employer exists for the employees instead of vice versa.

If anything it would allow people to do what they are actually called to do and actually have fun at work instead of having to be slaves to corporate bureaucrats.

This is in a spoiler because it's really long. Matthew 18:6-9 "6 If anyone should cause one of these little ones to lose his faith in me, it would be better for that person to have a large millstone tied around his neck and be drowned in the deep sea. 7 How terrible for the world that there are things that make people lose their faith! Such things will always happen-but how terrible for the one who causes them!

8 If your hand or your foot makes you lose your faith, cut it off and throw it away! It is better for you to enter life without a hand or a foot than to keep both hands and both feet and be thrown into the eternal fire. 9 And if your eye makes you lose your faith, take it out and throw it away! It is better for you to enter life with only one eye than to keep both eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell."

Matthew 18:15-17 "If your brother sins against you, go to him an show him his fault. But do it privately, just between yourselves. If he listens to you, you have won your brother back. But if he will not listen to you, take one or two other persons with you, so that 'every accusation may be upheld by the testimony of two or more witnesses,' as the scripture says. And if he will not listen to them, then tell the whole thing to the Church. Finally, if he will not listen to the Church, treat him as though he were a pagan or a tax collector."

Prayer is very much a necessity in times like these. Matthew 18:19-20 "And I tell you more: whenever two of you on earth agree about anything you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in Heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, I am there with them.

It is not simply enough to stop abortion but also to help guide the guilty back to Christ. Matthew 18:21-22 "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, if my brother keeps on sinning against me, how many times do I have to forgive him? Seven times?' 'No not seven times,' answered Jesus, 'but seventy times seven.'" The parable of the Unforgiving servant is really good. It saddens me to see anything about abortion. It reminds me of St. Thomas Aquinas saying that part of what makes anger bad is how much excess or deficiency you have compared to what the reason demands. Too much over something small or even good is bad however anger can be a desire for justice, to stop something bad, like abortion from happening. At the same time anger can cloud our judgement, as can any passion/emotion. (Just to be clear having emotions isn't bad)

It's a tragedy that millions of innocent babies die each year and I am always reminded of a the fact that contrary to the what Joseph Stalin said about one death being a tragedy buy millions of deaths being just a statistic, it is both a statistic and a tragedy. I think that statistic was that since the beginning of the last century (the 1900's until now) 2 billion babies have died because of abortion, that is the same as if someone were to systematically kill of every human being living in both North and South America.

Fredgast wrote:I agree very strongly with Pope Francis call for universal basic income.

In one sense I completely disagree with Pope Francis. In most first world areas this is basically robbing Peter to pay Paul. Government is not the cure for the economic situation; it is the cause. It is a layered tax policy that causes necessary items to be far more expensive than they would otherwise be. It is that same tax policy that causes money poor people earn to be reduced long before it even reaches their hands. Now then, you want to entrust that same government to hand these people out money? From where does it come from? In the end, it comes from the very same people they give the money to, in effect raising the cost of living and putting these people in the same condition that they started from.

Once you realize that government is the problem, not the answer, the question becomes who is the answer? Why someone without the power to directly tax, of course. Someone that is dependent on the charity of others. Perhaps the church (or any similar non profit organization)? Charity gladdens the heart of the giver; taxes makes us angry. Let's not raise the bridge; let's lower that river. That "river" is the impact of government itself on local economies which hurts the poorest most of all.

Another thing to add is that Fredgast mentioned something about not having a risk of losing your income because of people disliking you spreading the Word of God. Ultimately the same problem arises whether you get a company (allowed by the government in the first place to do so and/or they are just rebellious to the government) or the government itself to fund your income. If they don't like what you say then your income is gone. Really the only way things change is if the culture itself realizes that it isn't just the material wealth of a nation but also it's faith in God that matters.

If the Romans persecuted Christians (Nero was famous for having Christians used as literal torches at parties) and the French Republic beheaded anyone who disagreed with them (my mind drifts immediately to the stories of Catholic nuns wearing religious habits getting executed) during the French revolution and reign of terror I have no doubt that whether it's a company or the government people will find a way to try to stop Christianity as has been the story for 2020 years since Jesus was born. Not that any attempts have ever gotten close to destroying Christianity. We have hope in Christ.

The government has their authority, companies have theirs, if they obey God we should listen, if they disobey God, God is a higher power, if your sargeant and your general have conflicting orders, your listen to the general.

at least we can all agree that helping the poor is a must
Well in conclusion, I can only say, "Render unto Caesar's the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's."

On a completely different note, I found the prayer for "Anima Christi" on wikipedia. It's got Latin, and two english versions.
