The climate map uses the Kφppen climate classification system. You can read more about it
here. Climate groups are classified using a two or three letter name, and some have common names.Every color represents a different (or a few different) climate group. Each climate name has a Wikipedia link to that climate's Wikipedia page.

FAQ: Why didn't you include every climate type as its own color?
This map is based off of real-life weather phenomena. Using the latitude on the side of the map, I determined wind patterns and ocean currents. Then, using that, I determined climate based off of local temperature and precipitation. This is why I won't let you change your climate without changing location, even if you ask nicely.
However, in the real world, it's much easier to make such a map, as you simply take weather measurements from around the world. This allows you to define many more climate types that have much smaller variation. I simply cannot determine enough variables to figure out how every single type would be placed, so I just picked the major ones and lumped the smaller ones in.
If you don't see yourself on the map, check your telegrams. There were 5 nations I could not add due to either issues with the request form or the land requested being already taken by someone earlier.
I think this is the biggest update to the map I've done. Added a dozen or so nations.

Flags like the US state flags bother me so much for so blatantly disregarding basically all of these rules.
I kept these rules in mind when I designed the Luran flag, breaking only rule 3, which is the easiest one to break without creating a terrible looking flag (e.g. South Africa).
Regarding flag design program, I used MS Paint to make mine. I can't say it's incredibly well-suited for the job, but it is easy enough to use and flags without seals are probably going to look just fine if made with it.

I could probably make that concession for the Greenness Index if you'd like. The List of Exceptionally Green Nations is more about the top environmental tier in Forest though, so I would reserve that only for nations in this region.
