With the achievement of a silver medal, the previous bronze medal winner has seemingly been forgotten amidst the current hullabaloo surrounding this most recent win. Ah, but look at that shiny gold medal you have!

Look at it from the point of view of some of the smaller nations in the real-life Olympics -- if they come out having won a gold, they perceive it to be a significant victory, and not that they failed to achieve the same results as some of the other larger, more-powerful nations such as the US, UK, China, Russia, etc.
