Huh, we talk about this and then along it comes in the World Census_
Yesterday: “As a region, International Democratic Union is ranked 797th in the world for Most Cultured”.
That’s based on the average value for all of our nations, and 797th in the world isn’t bad. That’s out of somewhere a little way over 20’000 regions, and so is within the Top 04% overall… and for stats like this it is generally the smallest regions, with fewer nations to average-out, that manage to occupy most of the places near both ends of the scale anyway. (I didn’t have the time available to check ALL of the regions ranked above us, obviously, and almost certainly wouldn’t have bothered with that even if I had had infinite time in which to do so, but the first 30 of them [i.e. three pages’-worth] all had populations of nations down in single figures and even on the same page only 1 other than us broke past that level… and that was only on 23 nations, to our 124…) So, not bad at all
"Congratulations, IDU!"

(Research suggests that the default rating for a nation which hasn’t yet answered any questions affecting this stat is 64 points: We had 97 nations above that level, 15 still (?) exactly on it, and only 12 below…)

The Bears currently have an [Association] Football team competing in the latest ‘Di Bradini Cup’, which is essentially the ‘Under-21s World Cup’. They have won one & drawn one out of their first two group-stage matches so far, and are heading the group on goal-difference above another nation that has achieved the same points, with one more game at this level — against that particular opponent, as it happens — to go. (They also won a pre-tournament ‘friendly’ game against another nation’s team.)
They have signed up to enter the next actual World Cup’s qualifiers (after so many cycles away from that contest that their KPB rating has dropped down to 00.00, alas…). Is anybody else from the region doing this, too? If so, do you want to discuss possible cooperation on RP during it? At the least, our organisers would probably send people to observe the others’ qualifying matches here in the region to get a better idea of what their own squads might end up facing later on…

Extremely good news.

And today, “As a region, International Democratic Union is ranked 20th in the world for Most World Assembly Endorsements” which is down by one place form last time that the Census highlighted this stat but — again — is still a pretty good ranking.

Mind you, there are still nine WA members present in the region who have yet to endorse Lauchenoiria as Delegate…

Cartographer Applications

Following the resignation of Sanctaria as the regional cartographer, we are now seeking a new player to take up the role! If you're interested, please fill out the form on the offsite forum here:
https://theidu.us/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2073

I'd like to apologise for the delay in responding to this development, I had some serious RL problems recently which have now been resolved, so I will be able to be properly active again now. I look forward to reading the applications!

That’s a very nice motto you’re using there… ^_^
I think that at one stage you were actually third in the I.D.U. for this, behind just Bears Armed itself and Bears Armed Mission, before I pushed the other three Ursine nations up the table past you and also before both Asminoland and North Cross moved into the region.

I remember that stage - I believe that at one point I even made a ''Watch out Bears, Trive's coming!'' comment.

Hello everybody! How are you?
I am very concerned about the levels of corruption here in Eldid. At the same time that we have a small state, we are facing high levels of corruption. If some of you have already faced this problem and was successful in overcoming it, please make contact with me.
Thank you.

Oh dear. You certainly are having a bit of a corruption problem, aren't you?

You may not want to hear this, but you are going to need to do something about those economic freedoms, likely, and tackle those crime rates.

It's what I'm working on at the moment. I have found some success in cutting a bit with law enforcement (it may generate lotsa crime though).
Always take the pro-watchdog stance in corruption-related issues.
Try not to increase economic freedom too much.

Z-Day

Hello everyone! So, as anyone keeping their eye on the news tab will have seen, there's going to be another zombie apocalypse. It's time to start preparing by familiarising yourselves with the Regional Anti-Zombie Policy. The full policy can be found in the dispatch linked at the end of this post.

To summarise the very important parts, however:
- CURE MISSILES ONLY.
- If you violate the above, anyone with border patrol powers has the right to kick you from the region after a warning, although you will be allowed back once the event has concluded.
- Please do communicate important information on the RMB during the event.

1. If the game gives you ‘cure missiles’ then use them: if it only gives you ‘zombie extermination teams’ (or whatever they’re calling those now) then you could use them to help reduce the spread, but that would also reduce the number of potentially-curable survivors so is probably best saved for nations that need really urgent action to prevent total collapse (or for your own puppets, if that’s how you want to play it, of course…) and nations that are actively “exporting” zombies.
2. If the game gives you ‘zombie hordes’ to “export” to the rest of the region then please do not use these: Any nation seen deliberately spreading the plague could be subject to expulsion if & when anybody with Founder access — or the regional Officers, if they can find enough Influence for this — finds out, and although they’d be allowed to return once the crisis is passed they could be put on trial (with the possibility of being banned from the region, if found guilty) afterwards.
Any nations that are seen deliberately spreading the plague, and that do not cease doing so when asked, are legitimate targets for ‘zombie elimination squads’.
3. Based on strategies that have been seen to work before, I suggest that _
A/ When you come online during the outbreak, and once you are able to start launching cure missiles, announce these facts in the RMB.
B/ Do not target nations that have said they themselves are launching missiles, unless they post again specifically to request this help, because doing so would block them [temporarily] from continuing to launch.
C/ Multiple nations targeting their curative efforts at a single nation isn’t actually a problem, unless it means that weaker countries are left to be destroyed at that time: In fact, if the nation being targeted is one that itself is very useful to the curative efforts & research, concentrating on it for long enough to make a significant difference might actually be a good idea.
D/ If you see a nation that’s very close to collapse, post that fact in the RMB. If you join the effort to save a nation about which somebody else has made such a post then you could say so, if you have time, so that we don’t get too many people concentrating on the effort to save that one at the expense of others that might also be endangered.
E/ If you see a nation that’s actually spreading the plague, post that fact in the RMB – and if they haven’t been involved in our discussion so far then send them a TG asking them to stop, and point them to this post’s explanation of regional policy.
F/ If you see that a nation has been completely cleared, post that fact in the RMB… and copy-&-paste any existing list of already-cleared nations into those posts, too, so that we can see more easily where help is still needed.
G/ However, check “cleared” nations now & then, especially after the game updates, in case the problem has resurfaced there.
H/ When you have to drop out of the campaign, post that fact in the RMB so that other people don’t count on further help that isn’t coming…
I/ Large nations are more effective at curing zombies in other large nations than smaller nations are, and large nations targeting smaller ones (or ones with only a few zombies left) may find their efforts having relatively small effects, so if there are enough people helping then it might be a good idea to concentrate on nations of about your own size first unless somebody else is calling desperately for help. Remember, though, that small nations might be at greater risk of quick collapse, and should require less clearing than larger ones, so if they’re willing to help in the campaign once cleared then giving them priority might be useful.

Listen up, everyone! There is no easy way to put this... the apocalypse is upon us and the devil is at our gate. You've seen the news, the zombie horde will be coming for us in less than two days time. Their undead hands will be reaching for our delectable human brains soon enough. We have got to be ready! Get your shotguns, your chainsaws, your airpods (heh, zombie fodder), your ballistic, fully-automatic, rocket-powered knife launcher.

Anyway, Z-day is upon us, the doomers were right, the 7th seal was crossed, a rider upon a white horse showed up, seas boiled over, the air turned to acid, yadda yadda yadda.

In the past, as mentioned in the dispatch, we have allowed the use of anti=zombie squads against nations that are actively & deliberately spreading the infection (rather than just doing do accidentally because their nation has "turned" while they aren't logged in): This not only reduces their strength, it temporarily keeps them from acting, after all...

You are indeed correct about Mighty Dundee.

And yes, but I'd still say it is preferable to use cure missiles if possible because it reduces the region's dead overall. But if a nation is actively spreading the infection, then one should do whatever it takes to stop them.

It only increases the region's dead if that zombie-spreading nation isn't expelled (before the whole thing ends) once somebody with the necessary authority finds out about it.
Talking of which, do you want 'Border Control' authority extended beyond its current holders for the duration?

That is a good point, and after last year, when there was one zombie spreader left at the end, and everyone with Border Control authority had gone to bed, it was somewhat frustrating...

I don't believe it is necessary right now, as I don't know who to grant extra authority, as I don't know who plans to be on at the very end. I will, if exhaustion permits, remain online myself at the end, and I have some TG drafts to send to zombie spreaders giving them two warnings before ejection.

Region locked for Z Day.

Z-Day has begun. Please begin to research a cure. Thank you all.

It’s Zombie killing season!

(Actually, cure them please)

Just heading into work for the night but will check periodically (levels of busy dependent). Researching the cure anyway so... I can contribute that much

I would like to draw the attention of all participants to the Regional Anti-Zombie Policy. If you are participating, then please give this a read:
