Ferneus wrote:In the months since the end of the civil war and the abolition of feudal slavery, many problems have arisen in Ferneus. The industries of mining and farming, mostly controlled by Houses Titleki and Mevon respectively, have suffered greatly from the loss of their workforce. With the shortage of stone caused by the collapse of the mining industry, wood is used more commonly to build structures. This has caused the architecture to more closely resemble that of East Coast Native Americans. Hunting and fishing, industries that were mostly practiced by small homesteads, become more prominent as the farming industry collapses as well. The intricate Aztec and Egyptian style carvings seen on Fernusi stone buildings are now sewn into blankets and symbolicy represented by the necklaces and bracelets worn by Fernusi citizens. The raids on the western border also cause a reform to the military. Before now, the Fernusi military mostly wore dried and reinforced oak wood as armor and wielded clubs with obsidian shards shoved into them. Fernusi soldiers now wear chainmail with iron gauntlets and greaves, as well as wield swords and shields inspired by Adduni blacksmithing. The soldiers now wear cloth on their waist and feathers on their helmet in order to determine rank. The iron is imported from Addunheim, while Santec horses are imported and bred on Fernusi homesteads, making cavalry more available for Ferneus.

The Fernusi imports of Adduni iron greatly enrich cities like Irontown and Hohenstadt. Many people have also begun calling for political and military reform of what they see as a corrupt and broken government, but these requests have been brushed aside.

Sea born raiders have sort of banded together in an effort to stop the Psunam navy from causing any problems in a massive scale for them, despite pleas from the Imperial gov to stand down. Now they have struck hard and all over Psunam. Virtually every port in the nation has been decimated and most of all of the ships have either been destroyed or stolen, virtually nothing escaped the violent rampage outside of walled cities. This though, did not come without a cost, more than half of the raiding forces were destroyed, the expected toll is around 60-70%, making it the vast majority of them. The Imperial navy has now taken to patrolling the coasts in an atempt to limit the raids

In response, Psunam goes into mashall law and any and all ships entering Psunam will be searched and if they do not comply will be destroyed. Luckily for Psunam, Addunhiem had been shipping in resources they could use to rebuild the ports, so the navy should be back up swiftly. However, Psunam would have to canoe in resources for the ships still at sea.

Somewhere in Addunheim
A man on a black charger in a protector's uniform is flanked by two others, on brown palfreys, their masked faces (here's an image of what they look like if u wanted to know:https://imgur.com/a/p86dpEj spoiler: they're sovereign protectors), they look upon the smoking remains of what was a small port city. The lead one turn his horse around to face his men, "This here is what happens when chaos is mixed with bad rulers, all we did was do what the raiders do, burn a few villages and now the entire nation is in uproar, with fifty of the deadliest men in the Empire we managed to drive a city to see the true corruption of its rulers, these men were by far not fit to rule." He takes off his helmet and mask revealing a handsome, but scarred face and recently shaved beard, looking at the two he orders them to uncover their faces, Tolcer, he nods to a young man, with longer curls and blue green eyes who is in fact only 17 and son of a raider named Haxer. "Take ten good men and go ahead and distinguish yourself further in The santland, I know the Emperor is unhappy with the raiders there too, but be cautious, I want you to hit their richest people and if you can burn a port or two." The boy puts his helmet on and rides down the slope. He now turns to the other, she is a twenty year old female, average size, who has long black hair and burn scars on her left check next to her eye, "Go deeper into this nation and raid the government's officials themselves, hit them where it hurts with the rest of your men, you will meet the raider several kilometers to the south."

Late into the night, another Fernusi outpost is hit by raiders. The outpost is bombarded with arrows. The soldiers sally out to defend against the attackers. Although casualties still remain, the shields and iron armor of the reformed Fernusi Army help them defend against the unrelenting rain of arrows. The raiders are pushed back, but not without casualties on both sides. With raids on the western border becoming less worthwhile for the raiders, a Mevoni general begins making an army to put a definitive end to raids on Fernusi soil. Ferneus sends word that it will join the coalition, although with limited numbers.

Small town in Ferneus
the calm, clear, and beautiful night is broken by several dogs barking and the town militia, fifty strong quickly form up to see what the matter is, among them are twenty Fernusi soldiers and ten mounted Fernusi soldiers, all in good armor, they are protecting a wealthy official traveling through the town, five of the soldiers walk to the outskirts to see what the matter is, they see a masked and lightly armored individual holding a torch and double bladed spear that he plants in the middle of a dirt pathway, he is wearing red and black clothes, and has a cape, one of the soldiers recognizes them as a terrifying sovereign protector and leads five of them in an attack, they all are slaughtered in a matter of seconds, as the rest of the group walks slowly towards him, suddenly from behind him 30 raiders all on horseback charge them causing the militia to run and soldiers to be slaughtered. The town is burned, the wealthy official turns out to be an advisor to the leadership of Ferneus and is held hostage until he is ransomed off for his weight in gold.

Meanwhile, in the council building in Fareh. The council members sit around a table, with one chair empty.
"We must reliate militarily! These savages cannot be allowed to run amok in our country!" Says Garek Mevon, the Mevoni representative and military advisor. "And then what? Arrive at the raider's camp to find Farev's throat slit for our ignorance?" Said Tereh Vernik, the Vernik representative and foreign relations advisor. "We barely even have enough to pay for the ransom!" Narev Titleki, the Titleki reprensentative and economic advisor chimes in "So what do we do? We can't just let him die!" Mikel tries to make a decision. "Cut back on spending for the Adduni border and use the saved money to pay the ransom. Let them know that if they attack again, it will be met with force." Garek is furious. "You can't be serious! If we pay the ransom, we're encouraging those grass lickers to kidnap more nobles!" Mikel tries to defuse the situation. "Garek Mevon, i am your Emperor and i order you to stand down." Garek pulls a knife on Mikel. "Like hell i will, you will ruin our nation with your cowardice!" Guards apprehend him. As Garek is dragged off, he continues chastising Mikel. "May your House be cursed for a thousand years!" With the interruption settled, the ransom and message is sent to the raiders, with the military on high alert.

The Mountains close to Ferneus- Raider camp
"The Emperor's not very happy, Redest, he knows the protecters like us are taking part in the raids, too bad his guards aren't eh?" asks Tremon as he sharpens his blade, his red hair blowing in the mountain wind. "I happen to agree with him on that, regardless, we're not his guards and we don't answer to him, we may not be quite as deadly, but we're just as loyal to the Empire, but we answer to the Council and as long as they say nothing, we're fine." He replies as he whirls his double blade spear in the air with lighting speed and sits down. "The wolf skins the raiders wear are not so maneuverable as our uniforms."
"I agree." They are joined by the other Protector at the raider camp, who is also in wolf skins, they strike up a lively conversation as they start a fire and begin cooking a bird over it when they see riders though the snow, they grab their weapons and jump up. The riders are half frozen despite wearing fine clothes. The third protector, Yorec, realizes immediately, "Ferneusi!" He grabs his weapon and stares at them menacingly. the Ferneusi, speaking in bad Korintheyain says that he has the ransom and message. A few minutes pass by as the exchange is made, the riders then ride away with their charge while the Raiders read the message in anger, the leader, a tall seven foot man looks up his great black beard and hair blowing in the wind, "We take 100 men and ride at dawn b*tches, send a message to the river tribes to do the same, I want them to know that if they agree to staying away from the alliance, we'll ease off of them.

As Tolcer's group of ten protectors move in closer, they are set upon by several hundred- even thousand warriors, meanwhile the casualties mount, the ten protectors are quickly overwhelmed despite having killed over six or seven hundred men, they keep coming and slowly begin to fall, Tolcer, realizing it has become everyone for themselves, flees, starting a fire to escape, the same cannot be said for his second in command, despite having taken an arrow to the arm kills an additional twenty before being captured and put in chains, the bindings have a hard time fitting on him due to the blood drenching his uniform.
