Poem of the day: "Rondeau" by Leigh Hunt.

This was a favorite back when school age kiddies were made to memorize poems because teachers thought (probably correctly) that it increased their learning ability. Technically it's not a rondeau, and is now usually titled "Jenny Kissed Me."

Jumping from the chair she sat in;

An Easter Crocodile is a very good idea. I would very much like to see that become a tradition in the real world. The Krampus to the Easter Bunny's Santa, if that makes any sense.

I have increased the threat level for the Barrel from "Substantial" to "Severe." Sadly, this is but a formality, as the Barrel contains no actual security forces. There is a rather pompous koala who carries around a strip of birch that he wields like a switch while he "patrols" the streets, but no one else takes him seriously. Nevertheless, the klaxons signalling possible outside threat are sounding off and being promptly ignored by the marsupial populace.

It is a nice flag. Classy, as was the last. I do miss the particular image of the pelican that was previously used, though, as I always favored it. Maybe it could somehow be retained as a national seal or some other sort of emblem? It may have been better suited to something like that than a flag, anyway, given its level of detail.

Of course it is. Crocodiles improve everything. I’ve heard the crocodile family is actually an obscure branch of the marsupial clan. Perhaps a few of my pit dwellers could enter your barrel, this would be a truly great opportunity for cross regional and animal engagement.

While I’m not an expert on poetry. I’m quite partial to a good speech -

It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. I totally agree, I do wish the new flag had more details like the last. Ultimately it comes down to me lacking the tools, time and experience to incorporate both of them to make a new flag of my own. I was thinking about making the old flag the quote on quote seal of the Federal Council of Americatain (leaders of my nations). Thank you for the feedback though, who knows I might go back to the old flag.... I’m feeling nostalgic already

Well slap my bottom and call me Sally! Who knew there were crocodilian roots among the marsupials.I will bring this to the attention of the Barrel and voice my support for the proposed cross-species opportunity.

"The Barrel and the Pit" sounds like a very nice name for some kind of trendy new cultural fusion restaurant in our fair region. Notorious foodies that we all here are. And maybe some local nightlife promotion: "You're on a roll when you're in the Barrel, but you'll stay in the Pit."

Those are quite impressive. You rarely hear well-constructed, artful rhetoric anymore, these days. I remember being especially taken with one of Obama's speeches, though I can no longer remember which one.

I'm terribly sorry, though, I'm getting word from the booth that you've actually been sacked for quoting Oliver "the butcher" Cromwell. Regardless of the poetry of his words, or the forcefulness of his style, it is simply unacceptable, in this day and age. Besides, we have our market in Boston to consider, you understand, yes?

I’m not really a fan. He had the chance to make Britain into a permanent republic, but he blew it because he was such an...well, y’know. I do like that speech though. World leaders should just lose it in public every so often, just for the yucks. I really like JFK, his inauguration and civil rights speeches are both brilliant. Obama was a good speaker, but he was really bland in content. The only speech he made that I can remember was when Osama was killed, and even that speech wasn’t great.

Your current flag does shout "Sea Power!" with its style and color, so it achieves what it aims for, I believe. Can't beat the combo of gold and navy blue, they're always a favorite choice of mine when coming up with designs for a new flag.

Also just wanted to comment that the idea of using your territories on our regional map as a stylized banner is a pretty good one. Also quite classy-looking. Though, it helps that you've widely-sprawling territories, so that they show nicely on the map.

In the year 2000 I was asked by a co-worker, with whom I have various political squabbles, "What do you think were the 3 best presidential speeches in the 20th century. My answer:

#3. FDR's "A date that will live in infamy," following the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
#2. A tie between 2 JFK speeches, "Ich Bin Ein Berliner," and "Ask not what your country can do for you." (Pardon my probable misspelling of the German words.)
#1. Reagan's "Mr. Gorbachov, tear down this wall."
