Picard is the 1 thing I never checked out.
Also haven't seen the current or latest stuff of Discovery, but I do have an interest in doing so eventually, not so much for picard.

National Student-Athlete Day

We have a question for you: do you love memes? Memes like this?

“dentist: you need to stop grinding your teeth

student athlete: Stop Grinding?😂 The Grind Never Stops💯 No Breaks😈 We Stay Dream Chasing💪”

Get ready to share these student athlete memes all over the internet this April 6, because it’s National Student Athlete Day! Started by the National Consortium for Athletics and Sports, this day celebrates the student athletes who excel both on the field and in the classroom. Get yourself an athlete that can do both—and then give them a huge … hug? High-five? Whatever athletes do to celebrate. Basically, what we’re trying to say is go show the student athletes in your life some love. Even though we make fun of them with memes sometimes, they really do never stop grinding.

NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY ACTIVITIES
Share a meme or three

You can’t blame us for being obsessed with student athlete memes (go back to the intro for an example of true meme artistry). So this National Student Athlete Day, breathe some new life into your favorite memes by sharing them on your social medias and tagging your student athlete friends! Sure, you might be gently making fun of them, but we’re sure they’ll take it in stride.

Go to a local game
We can’t count the times we’ve driven past our local high school during a football game. But we always tell ourselves we’ll catch it the next time. (And, of course, we never do.) This holiday is the perfect day to support your local student athletes in what they do best! Check the calendar on your alma mater’s website: it’s guaranteed to have a long list of different events you can attend.

Get the student-athlete in your life some new gear
Whether your favorite student athlete is in high school or college, they’re probably not making enough money to afford the gear they want. Surprise them with some new cleats, or the lacrosse stick they’ve been eyeing! It will show them that you recognize all the hard work they’re putting in, and you support them.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE DAY
It showcases dedication

Take it from our uncoordinated selves—it’s really hard to be good at a sport. We’ve tripped over enough hurdles and hit enough foul balls to realize just how talented student athletes are. But for every bit of talent student athletes have, they reinforce it with hours and hours of practice. Student athletes find time to fit what’s basically a part-time job in their schedule, while still completing all of their homework. That guy from High School Musical already had a hard enough time juggling two extracurriculars and a girl—we’re sure he wasn’t getting his work in on time. That’s why the student athletes in your life are so amazing—they can do it all! Make sure you let them know how appreciated they are today.

It reminds us that school is important
Think about it—how many holidays do you know that celebrate school? It’s easy to see school as a chore, and to stereotype people who are good at it as “nerds.” Somewhere along the line, it became cool not to care about school. But student athletes are the coolest people we know, so celebrating them doing well in school sends a powerful message: school can be fun, and doing well is even better.

It’s a motivator
Student athletes have the same amount of time in the day as you do. And in that time, they manage to practice their craft for several hours a day, hang out with their friends, do their homework, and eat. Think about their example the next time you say you don’t have time to go to the gym, or to pick up a new hobby. These athletes are examples of real people who make time for their passion and their obligations—and there’s no reason you can’t do the same. Now grab that basketball from the back of your closet and start shooting hoops! But don’t play with a student athlete. They’ll beat you so badly it will be embarrassing.

National Library Workers Day

National Library Workers Day is observed on the Tuesday of National Library Week, which is celebrated each year in April. The day recognizes the importance and contributions of the library staff who keep our libraries running while we get lost in the wonderful books. Libraries are more than a place for borrowing books, they reflect the needs and expectations of our community. And library workers are the ones fulfilling those needs and expectations by making information, books, and resources more accessible. Libraries work because they work!

HISTORY OF NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY
The American Library Association initiated the idea of National Library Workers Day and it was first observed in 2004. The purpose of the day was to raise support for better benefits and salaries for library workers when they had been stagnant for years.

Libraries have existed dating back to as early as 2600 B.C. The first libraries consisted of archives of the earliest forms of writing on clay tablets that were discovered in the temple rooms of Sumer. Since then, libraries have evolved from the classic period to late antiquity and have shaped societies, from the classical Greek and Roman empires all the way up to the modern age.

Although libraries have been around for centuries, access to books has not always been that easy. The first public library was opened in the United States in 1833. Before that, libraries were owned privately.

Today, public libraries are an important part of the community. They provide books from all over the world on basically every topic imaginable. Librarians are the ones responsible for maintaining this catalog of history. They are the maestros of research who foster creativity and knowledge. But owing to the global economic fluctuations, their salaries have shrunk to such a low level that it has now become difficult for these careers to remain feasible.

NATIONAL LIBRARY WORKERS DAY TIMELINE
1814
Library of Congress is Burned

The British invade Washington, D.C., and destroy its collection of 5,000 books in the Library of Congress.

1862
Morrill Land Grant Act

This Act provides each state with 30,000 acres of public land per senator for educational use, spurring the growth of libraries.

1887
Training School for Librarians

Melvin Dewey starts the first training school for librarians.

1960
Technology in Libraries

The creation of MARC (machine-readable cataloging) allows for the electronic management of library catalogs.

New Beer's Eve

Once upon a time, the beer lovers of the United States were very sad. The government ratified the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920, banning all intoxicating liquors, including beer, beginning the period of American history we now know as Prohibition. However, in 1933, the government saw the light and President Roosevelt ended Prohibition. The date was April 7, so now we celebrate New Beer’s Eve each year on April 6! So grab a beer and toast to your ability to drink it!

NEW BEER'S EVE TIMELINE
1800 BC
The First Ode to Beer

The Hymn to Ninkasi, the Sumerian goddess of beer, is inscribed on a tablet.

1920
The 18th Amendment Passes

Prohibition goes into effect and all intoxicating alcohols are banned.

1933
Prohibition Ends

FDR’s election meant it was time to end Prohibition. His Congress adopted the 21st amendment, which repealed the 18th.

1972
Hops is Introduced

Cascade hops were developed in Corvallis, Oregon in 1956. They weren’t released to brewers until 1972, becoming the hallmark aroma of American beers.

NEW BEER'S EVE ACTIVITIES
Enjoy happy hour

Grab your friends and head out for those beer specials! It’s a good time to reconnect with friends, kick back, relax, and enjoy some brews!

Try a new craft beer
We know there are always new craft beers popping up on your grocer’s shelf. You’ve looked at them, you’ve considered purchasing them, but instead you’ve gone with a more familiar beer. Why not make this the day you try something new?

Have a party
You’ve purchased those new beers, so why not invite everyone over for a New Beer’s Eve bash? It only comes once a year, so gather your friends together and celebrate!

5 AWESOME BEER FACTS THAT'LL HAVE YOU LOOKING FOR THE LIQUOR STORE
It’s good for your bones

Craft beer has plenty of silicon in it, which helps build and maintain strong bones.

India Pale Ale is everyone’s favorite
Well, maybe not everyone’s, but India Pale Ale is the most popular craft beer in America.

Presidents make their own
George Washington, Barack Obama, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison all brewed their own craft beers at home—while in office.

Sometimes your cup runs out

WHY WE LOVE NEW BEER'S EVE
Bars celebrate in a big way

Every year, bars around the country celebrate New Beer’s Eve with specials, like two for one brews or dollar beers. It’s a great excuse to gather the gang together for happy hour!

New beers
In addition to specials, many brewers release new beers on this date each year. For example, Diamond Knot Brewing released four new beers last year on April 6th.

History can be fun
Often, we learn the dry, dull facts of our country, rather than the fun stuff. Picturing President Roosevelt kicking back with a beer just brings a smile to our face. Sometimes, history can be fun!

Things I've learned from working Derek Chauvin's trial so far:

—George Floyd was actively resisting in an escalating manor from his arrest going forward. We've all seen the video of him on the deck under Derek Chauvin's knee. But how many of you have seen the video of Floyd struggling with four officers trying to get him into the police car?

—Several network talking heads (I believe one was CNN but cannot absolutely swear to it) told us that Floyd was dragged from a police car and thrown on the street. That is not true. The four officers wrestled Floyd into that car, three on Floyd's side and one on the other side guiding him in. Once in the car, Floyd kept going under his own power, over the officer trying to guide him into the car, and out the other side. To make sure this is perfectly clear: That is a prisoner attempting to escape custody.

—We were led to believe that choke holds were forbidden by MPD policy. Not true. In fact, at the time of Floyds death, officers were permitted to use a blood choke to render a rowdy suspect unconscious if the need arose.

—We were led to believe that kneeling on a prisoner is absolutely not allowed. Today the defense turned up an MPD training manual in effect at the time of Floyd's death, not only teaching the technique in detail, but complete with pictures on the proper way to do it.

—The videos and stills captured from those videos the networks and activists are showing everyone are all taken from an angle that shows Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck. However, bodycam footage shows that Chauvin is actually on Floyd's shoulder with the knee sticking out over the neck. This is clearly the case when the paramedic checks Floyd's pulse. Chauvin did not move so much as a millimeter, and yet the paramedic was able to reach in and check the carotid pulse. Had Floyd been in either a blood choke or an air choke, the paramedic could not have done that without moving Chauvin.

I still think Chauvin and the rest of that crew screwed up. I think that screw up will rise to the level of criminal.

But this is no where near what the activists and talking heads on your TV, who seem to be dead set on burning down this nation, would have you believe. Those talking heads are no better than the lynch mobs circling the city promising to "burn this $#!+ down" if Chauvin is not found guilty across the board. In fact, they are right there with the "protesters" blocking Minneapolis intersections and terrorizing people unless they "Honk for Black Lives Matter."

Frankly, the impression I get is this city is going to burn whether or not the mocking bird is killed.

Welcome! This is a good place to ask questions!

Picard was enjoyable, however I wasn't pleased how they treated certain characters that were brought back from 90s Trek.

Picard is the 1 thing I never checked out.
Also haven't seen the current or latest stuff of Discovery, but I do have an interest in doing so eventually, not so much for picard.

Interesting Poll Fort verden. Before ST Discovery, we would have gone for Klingons, but now that they are revealed to be a lot more despicable than the loveable Whorf portrayed, we are not so sure. And, as smurfy as the Andorians appear, we wonder what darkness lurks beneath their exotic exterior now. Discovery really shook up ST. Now we do not even know how to vote.

~Minister of Immigration: Margaux

Information about other government officials of 10000 Islands can be found Linkhere.

March Elections

Wischland was elected in a landslide delegate election, and transitioned to the role soon after announcement of victory. Meanwhile, Zaberaz hapang secured their bid for Himes West after an uncontested campaign. Finally, Lyonnesse East saw the most activity, with both Porflox and Kohnhead running serious campaigns for the seat. After a close and exciting week of voting, Kohnhead emerged victorious. Porflox was however soon appointed to serve as Blue Canaria North after an opening for the seat appeared following Wischland's successful bid for delegate.

~The Council of Nine repealed The House Continuity and Closure Act due to its redundancy after The House Closure Requirement Reform Act was passed.

Around the Islands

~Porymonia was named featured nation for March thanks to their extremely prolific posting in A Taco Archipelago, our RP region. At more than 27,000 posts, they have posted many thousand times more than anyone else! More can be read here.

~Eastern New England has won our Extraterrestrial Encounter theme contest! You can read more about this Linkhere.

~Congratulations Silvedania on the well deserved Rookie of the Quarter awards! They have been an active poster on the RMB and discord, as well as joining TIBOE to improve regional security! LinkHere is the full statement.

Islander Achievements

~10000 Islands's RP region A Taco Archipelago in its just under one year of existence has beaten out 10000 Islands's post count in the past 10 years (since the creation of RMB archives)!

~The Mad Surfer published its last issue this month (here) because of increased Real Life obligations and the increase in regional news bulletins which you can read more about in the article. Thank you Jabberwocky for the continued editorship and the entire staff for creating an amazing newspaper for three whole years!

XKI Game-Side

A regional poll by Jabberwocky asked Islanders what device they'd want to have. Lightsabers from star wars overwhelmingly won, mostly due to islanders having no clue about what the other ones were.

The RMB this month was filled with many insightful conversations, and some more comical ones.

~Are we mining cheese?
~April Fools! Kind of... not really
~The Drew before Drew
~Interesting waste disposal
~My oldest memory is...
~I wisch for a pun!
~I find your lack of derrieres pleasant
~Aliens? No problem!

Vincent's Sunday Surprise Beverage Bonanza

Howdy Dudes and Dudettes of Texas!

Today's Sunday Surprise Beverage is Make - Your - Own - Beverage Day! I've got lots of Large Boxes full of drink making ingredients stacked up right here and I'm going to beam them directly into the home of every Texan in Texas. Everyone will receive a Large Box and it'll materialize on the table closest to you. With all the drink ingredients in your box you can make Banana Brunch Punch, Blackberry Shrubs and Frozen Lemon-Berry Margaritas. There's enough ingredients to make 3 glasses of each drink. You can keep the Instructional Guide CD as my gift to you:

Make Your Own Beverage Drink Making Guide:

Banana Brunch Punch

Blackberry Shrubs
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/blackberry-shrub/

Frozen Lemon-Berry Margaritas
https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/frozen-lemon-berry-margaritas/

When blending drinks in your blender always add your ice at the end so it doesn't jam up the blender. Also if you've got alcohol in your house and you desire an alcoholic drink just mix your own booze into the beverages.

And today I've included a large container filled with two Glazed Cranberry Swirl and Chocolate Chip Cornbread Loaves in everyone’s Box. These freshly baked Cranberry and Chocolate Chip Cornbread loaves are tender and moist and the tart cranberries complement the sweet chocolate well. Topped with a vanilla and cinnamon glaze, slices of the two moist Cranberry Cornbread loaves will make a sweet snack for everyone in Texas to enjoy any time.

I hope y'all enjoy today's Sunday Surprise Snack and Beverages Texans. Yeehaw! :)

Regional Poll • Are you registered as an organ donor?

April is National Donate Life Month so I thought this might be an interesting poll to spread awareness about the lifesaving importance of organ donation. As for me, I have already signed up as an organ donor on my twenty first birthday. Unfortunately, after surviving my fourth Heart Attack, I am indeed waiting for a heart transplant. :(

National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003. Observed in April each year, National Donate Life Month helps to encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to honor those that have saved lives through the gift of donation.
