An Announcement from the Leadership of New Thaecia Now

After Saint songbird left the region, we have one less candidate for the Senate. We wish them luck for their future endeavours. With that, I am glad to announce that Western mediterranea is joining our party and is running for the Senate. Western mediterranea has been an active addition to Thaecia, especially active in the Thaecian discord server. I am very sure that they will serve Thaecia very well shall they get elected to the Senate. And along with that, I have made a factbook that gives a layout of all of our candidates:

Hello Thaecians! I would like to share with you my campaign for House of Commons:

Who are you?

Easy!

I am Sma Cyrillic, also known as Shadow or Eastern Alksearia. (Commonly as Shadow) I have been in NS since May of 2020. I hold citizenship here in Thaecia and in TEP (The East Pacific)

Why are you running for Thaecian House of Commons?

Simple, I enjoy being in the legislature. I have experience being a Magister over in TEP, and I want to bring my experience over here and help draft laws. Plus, I find laws to be fun, and so, why wouldn't I want to?

Okay, that's cool and all, but what are you running on? What are your goals?

First of all, I want to keep the House and the Senate at their current size. Representation matters, and as Thaecia is founded the principle of democracy, decreasing the Legislature would be counter-intuiative.

Second, I would work within the House to KEEP the Thaeimpirial Army going. Military and participating in R/D is a big way of drawing people into a region. If we wish to continue working on growth and expanding as a region, this is important. We need opportunities to be involved within the region to attract people.

Third, (and I am fully guilty of this), I want to go through Thaecian Law...all of it, and see if there are ways of condensing or simplifying what is already present and seeing where there is room to improve. Nothing will be "perfect", there are no perfect laws, but I do want to help close a couple loopholes and simplify and streamline everything.

Fourth, I want to be involved within the region. Thaecia is an amazing region, and I'm so glad to have been a diplomat, and now a resident here. To me, this is a great way of getting involved.

Lastly, I DO NOT plan on joining any political party. Honestly, I rather vote the way my conscious says and I also rather stay impartial for now. Maybe the next time I run.

Do you have any endorsements?

Thank you for reading through this. I know it is pretty baron, but hey, I'm a simple man. Have a great day!

Hey yall, I'm Josie, and the Khaganate of Aspistan is a political union of nomadic steppe tribes. In the past, the diverse peoples of this land have, through our mastery of the horse, militarily dominated our neighbors. But with the invention and militarization of motorized vehicles, the vast plains of this land have been easy pickings for all sorts of imperialists and invaders. In response, the nomadic peoples have formed the Khaganate, a representative government tasked with ensuring the freedom of the nomads and the protection of their culture and way of life. The biggest function of the Khaganate is the management of oil drilling, refineries, and wind farms, mineral mines, as well as the export of such goods. Through the revenue generated, the Khaganate receives the needed funds to provide social services and market stability for the populace.

I know the minute I mention that I'm running for House and you should totally vote for me guys your eyes will probably glaze over, but today I want to know this: on the last poll, 10 people said they wanted to create something as their life goal. What do you want to create? (you can answer regardless of how you answered the poll lol)

Among other things: I'd like to write east one work of original research looking at *how* democracies fail. [We know quite well how democracies function and how dictatorships function. We don't really have a great grasp on movement between either though except in really broad strokes.]

Now that you mention it, I've always wanted to write a really good piece of legislature, which YOU can help me do by voting me for house. Perfect segue. and finish my book

This election as well Solidarity is putting out candidates for both the House of Commons and Senate! Be sure to follow Gallo republic, Evileia and Dendrobium for updates on personal campaigns and read the Solidarity manifesto to get a general idea of what we stand for!

Solidarity and Who We Are
Solidarity is a progressive and positive popular movement and one of a wide arrangement of parties and organizations in Thaecian politics. Concerning Thaecian politics, we are generally speaking of the progressive and interregional side of the political spectrum; wishing to constantly seek ways to improve our wonderful region and to co-operate in a peaceful way with our neighbours. That mentality has been and still is at the roots of our beliefs in what we think Thaecia should look like, and will become clear throughout this manifesto.
Solidarity is however much more than just a political movement. We are a group of friends, comrades and like-minded people who wish to see both Thaecia and the world become a better place. This has resulted, among other things, in the foundation of the United Worker's Union of Thaecia (UWU), originally an association to pressure Thaecian politics into bringing more direct change but by now a recognized part of Thaecian politics as a whole, and a close friendship with The New Majority, a group of people who came together online to fascilitate and educate on progressive IRL-activism in a world in which the threat of far-right and anti-democratic movements is on the rise once again.

Internal Working Of Solidarity:
  • Solidarity means respect and equality. All members hold and shall be treated by those values. There is no room for any form of fascism, racism, homophobia, or other forms of discriminatory and otherwise hate-endorsing values or speech within Solidarity.

  • Solidarity believes in a bottom-up structure of governance. All authority should come directly from the people, and in our case, from our members. That is why Solidarity is not led by one individual, but organized by a pair of organizers.

  • Organizers shall be internally elected one month after each Thaecian General Election and only differ from other members in the sense that they must set up the day to day internal working of Solidarity as defined by this manifesto and the members of Solidarity.

  • All important decisions by and for Solidarity are made by the members by the way of discussions or votes with the assistance of the organizers. Examples of such matters are the choices of candidates for elections, changes to this manifesto or member events.

  • Any member of Solidarity is free to vote or seek office as they please, but candidacies are first internally discussed and if necessary voted on with the assistance of the organizers. Anyone is free to join Solidarity if they agree with our values of respect and equality and if they agree to this manifesto. If one’s membership or candidacy is contested, both sides must be given the opportunity to voice their thoughts or concerns with assistance of the organizers.

On Thaecia and Domestic Affairs
Thaecia, especially to newer citizens, can be a very complicated region. Several topics or issues have been brought up throughout time that made for interesting debates and as interesting outcomes. From bi- VS unicameralism, to party VS independent politics, to the establishment of a regional military force, and much, much more. Here we will quickly explain the stances of Solidarity and give a short reasoning for them.
  • IRL Policies: Throughout the history of Thaecia, many policies have been added or removed from the Law Registry (L. R.), slowly ticking off every box of NS-based policies. We have great respect to everyone who has been working on the L. R. so far, and will continue to do so ourselves as well. That being said we at Solidarity also believe in the integration of more IRL- some would say RP- based policies. A climate emergency bill, a formal bill recognising and protecting LGBTQ+ rights, informative programs or initiatives on social activism, ... are just some examples. The recent passing of the Law Registry Act and current processing of Regulation of Yogurt Viscosity Act show that such integration is not impossible, and that is why we promote integration of said IRL-policies.

  • Uni- VS Bicameralism: The region is strongly devided between the choice of a unicameralist structure or a bicameralist way of organizing things. Referendums have proven this multiple times, often ending in a near 50/50 outcome. At Solidarity we have, as a result, no strong preference between the two; our only demand is that the system works. Expansions of the House of Commons to 15 seats is just one example of the system not working as it should, barely attracting enough candidates, let alone active members once elected. However, we still believe representation and direct influence of Thaecians is a necessity to our democracy, so while we stand in favor of a reduction of seats, referendums, we believe, should become the norm on topics that may require more popular input.

  • Communication: Open communication is key to democracy. There is a reason the internal affairs of Solidarity are pretty much completely organized by membership contribution. A government or authority that refuses to communicate about matters, pressing or not, has no legitimacy. For that reason Solidarity stands for- or rather demands open communication and democracy that is as close to the Thaecian people as possible of the Thaecian government at all times (with a possible exception for things like a secret santa).

  • Party- VS Independent Politics: One topic that has gotten more attention recently is the "end of party politics". Obviously we at Solidarity, being a political movement, are not a big fan of that statement, but not for reasons such as being "defenders of particracy" or wishing for "toxicity between parties". Political parties are formed out of political alliances, which, in turn, are formed out of similar views on how things should be, so in the end, parties are no more than people coming together because their ideological standpoints overlap. Because of that, we do not agree with people seeking to abolish or practically delegalise parties as a whole, because we do not agree with taking away people's choice and right to associate themself with like-minded people. Does this mean we wish to force independents to become part of a party or political assotiation? Of course not! Just because one person might disagree or dislike something, does not mean they should keep it from others, so taking such a stance would for us be nothing but hypocrisy.

On Interregional Affairs
As said before, members of Solidarity generally speaking tend to allign themselves with the more interregional side of things. That is to say, we beleive that working together with, instead of against, other regions is the better option. However, this does not mean we wish to allign Thaecia or ourselves with just any other region or organization. In this section we will explain our view on some topics relating interregional affairs and the position we believe Thaecia should take on the wider scale of NationStates.
  • Allignment With Other Regions: At Solidarity we believe that, while it sure has some limits and often finds itself struggling to find much long lasting success, cooperation and open communication with our neighbors are most benefitial. That being said, we do wish to set and continue certain limits or requirements: a zero tolerance towards fascist, alt-right, or other hate-endorsing regions and otherwise regions who knowingly host said beliefs without taking action on it is something we will defend with our lives. Respect for democracy and the people alongside us are necessities, core-vallues even, we hold close to heart and vow to protect.

  • A Thaecian Military: Recently, a Thaecian Military was re-founded after a poll was put out which showed enough support for that action. On this topic Solidarity prefers to hold a rather cautious position for a number of reasons. Because Thaecia has an organized system of endorsements and an active founder account, we do not need to hold much fear towards being raided; in that regard a military would not be necessary. Some regions, however, are not this fortunate, and, if these regions are of an inclusive, democratic nature, it should be our duty to help them out. That is called solidarity. On the other hand, if a region is found to be racist, discriminatory, fascist, or anything alike, we should do the right thing and stop such people from gathering and spreading hate or violence; for those situations a military is necessary. To conclude, at Solidarity we think a so-called non-alligned military under strict surveillance of all 3 powers of government would be the best option for our region.

  • Interregional Organizations: When looking at the most effective way of establishing good relations with other regions, so-called interregional organizations are probably the way to go. We Thaecians also have a strong feeling of pride towards our sovereignty however. Rightfully so. Obviously we at Solidarity hope to keep the relations we already have and continue to build (on) them, but if any alignment with other regions or collection of regions turns out to be undermining for our sovereignty and values of inclusion, tolerance and solidarity for one another, then we believe Thaecia should step away from them. We must work together, but only if it allows us to still work on ourselves first.

Introducing New Policies and Improving Old Ones
Solidarity is a progressive, reformative association of comrades. Here we believe improvement comes by constantly seeking ways to better ourself and the space around us, here that means Thaecia. Some of the points mentioned below have already been proposed or installed before, and we simply wish to continue them; others are completely new ways with which we hope to change the region for the better or get people more involved.
  • IRL Policies: Our main thoughts on this topic are already explained thoroughly in the section of Thaecia and Domestic Affairs, so we will do our best not to repeat ourselves, and instead further explain how we got here. Social activation is probably one of the most effective ways to get people involved in, well, social activism. That is why we at Solidarity believed and still believe it is good to introduce policies that will promote information and activation. Here mainly with a climate or educational bill/program in mind. On another point, something like formal recognition and protection of, for example, LGBTQ+ rights will not only help to make people feel more comfortable in Thaecia, but will also improve our reputation as a region.

  • Information And Education: Freedom and access to information, transparency, and with that the ability to hold a civil and well-informed discussion are essential to a healthy community. For that reason we promote and support any Thaecian initiatives to set up education programs by an/the Education Office, mock debates or court cases by the Justice Ministry, or other similar things. However, freedom to information also means access to information and vice versa. Solidarity condemns actions taken to, for example, remove factbooks with information on existing parties, or even to remove mention of them on ballots! If one is scared to give people access to information on the basis that they fear it might be propaganda against them, then that is scarily similar to censorship.

  • Executive Reform: Although it technically always has been present, a topic which has recently gotten some attention is that of the relationship between the several branches of government. Bills like L.R. 034 (concerning hearings of Ministers or other officials) are being brought up again and again, and at least some attention seems to be shifting towards limiting, or at least overseeing the power the executive branch holds. Many people have already opted to change the way ministries work, are structured, or stand in relationship towards each other, so at Solidarity we believe that this might be a good time as ever to open discussion on where we want the executive branch to go to, structure-wise, and what relation it should hold with the legislative branch and the people of Thaecia.
