In other news, the latest opinion polls continue to spell danger for the Prime Minister. Her popularity may be undeniable, but the cracks in it have become apparent. While she is still comfortably ahead on 53 to 47 in two-party preferred terms; and she retains a strong 60-40 lead in preferred Prime Minister, she has seen both metrics fall as the all-crucial Provincial Elections approach. Pundits have already begun drawing up likely scenarios, of the 42 Provinces, 29 are facing elections this year. Of those 29, National Labor is in government (majority or minority) in 23 of them. Of those 23, Tehran, Esfahan, Nineveh, Baghdad, Damascus and Tashkent provinces. Each feature Labor Governments seeking reelection to a third, not a second, term. A loss won't necessarily mean 2026 is a shoe-in for Yazdi's Liberal Democrats, but it will depend on where. In Tehran, the Provincial Lib Dems are hoping to topple key Northern seats, as Tehran has gained in wealth so too have its once working class northerners who may be less inclined to support the Tehran Labor Party for a third term if they stomach some change. In Esfahan, Baghdad and Tashkent the Liberal Democrats will seek to topple substantial margins to form provincial government and are framing their races in a provincial manner, attempting to avoid being drawn in on a larger national fight which Labor believes it has won and would win again. Nineveh and Damascus are where Labor is concerned. Their win in 2014 was as minority government, and in 2018 both Provinces awarded Labor with small majorities, as a backlash to the then embattled Howard Talqanasi. Now, with a popular party leader, Liberal Democrats are hopeful that they can convert Yazdi's appeal to moderates into a win. National Labor is also watching with caution, Nineveh and Damascus both mark strong bounds of strength for National MPs who are jittery over possible gains. In Damascus where there are 10 metropolitan seats, and three rural/regional seats for the outskirts of the province, Labor won 9 of 10 metro seats and one rural seat. Four of those were gains in 2021. A loss would spell warning signs in Avasarala's majority, which while substantial, is not immune to defeat. In Nineveh, Mosul which consists of roughly a million residents only has two seats, going into 2021 there was one Labor seat and one Lib Dem while its six regional seats were all Lib Dem. However, Labor won all seats in the province bar one regional seat which it still attained a 19 point swing. Nineveh is also where Labor increased its Senate standing from 2/6 to 4/6, hence this province will be the most important barometer come the May elections.

Production of arms at the Muharib Complex has been ramped up again, with the facility expanding its manufacturing capabilities. The factory has begun producing artillery pieces and AA guns, and is now producing a series of blast-resistant, minimum-metal landmines based off of old Valsella designs. 250 new T-72s have been built, while 300 existing units have been upgraded with ERA. An additional 500 T-55s are being upgraded to the “Enigma” model standard, being fitted with applique composite armour, smoke dischargers, laser rangefinders, and new fire control computers.
Meanwhile, the engineering division has begun building prototypes for its LGB project, fitting several Mirage F1s with laser designators for testing purposes. The bomb performs well in trials and is expected to enter production soon. A retrofit kit to convert “dumb bombs” into LGBs is also being developed.
