Update on the Equestrian-Changeling War:

Canterlot, the capital, is in danger of being surrounded, but if we hold out for 19 days – a long time to hold with only 8 divisions – we'll get 6 divisions of reinforcements from a hastily raised militia. We have a fort line, but not enough troops to make use of it.

Many new developments in the south, where the bulk of the Equestrian army is defending – not that they have a choice, mind you, if they stretch out any further they'll probably be crushed. The defenders of a bulge are finally flagging, it seems, and the Changeling have made their first advance there in a few months. On the bright side, I've somehow managed to be in a great position for an encircling movement on their own bulge, and with 8 divisions slicing through the base of the bulge with 10 divisons ready to act as the anvil to their hammer, I see two Changeling panzer divisons being destroyed soon.

Of course, that's not going to console me much if Canterlot falls, but I do not intend to give Queen Chrysalis the satisfaction of getting her greedy hooves on the crown city of Equestrias she's so obsessed on getting. To the last Royal Guard, not that there are any real Royal Guards there because they're all to the south and it's really only some desperately deployed rookies there but this sounds fancier and so I'm rambling about calling them Royal Guards, we'll fight to the death.

Corporate lobbyists would make sure such a thing never happened.

Maybe just pay corporation to not give money to candidates..use money to fight money! and if you don't have enough just print more!

That's why voters need to stand strong against corporations and keep rallying to have corporate funding of elections banned.

That would be the very thing that should be banned. bribes are corrupt and should never be accepted.

I just saw that Yggdrasil is at an all time low as far as "number of nations" goes. I feel worried.

"Commend Crushing Our Enemies"

Just got a telegram urging me to vote Against it for raiding and such.

I can see the propaganda fest now.

Wonder what the raiders think today? Back in my time, all of the big raider bosses did'nt want to be commended. It wasn't a badge of honour for them.

Ah, here's the expected FOR propaganda from the delegate of The North Pacific!

Huh, far as I know, The North Pacific and 10000 Islands are pretty good regions, so I can't immediately discount either of them.

Thoughts on this Commendation?

Personally, don't feel like voting for a nation with significant raider ties.

Pookyvania and Prunasia

I don’t bother with the SC myself.

The phoenix flame

I am of the opinion that, if (as stated in the response TG) the commendation is for the actions of the nation General COE, then that is who the commendation should have been made for. Instead it is for the nation Crushing Our Enemies, which itself has not taken those actions and is involved in raiding. That seems a deceptive ploy to commend a nation known for its raiding history rather than the other regarding its security actions

I vote against.

However this does bring up an interesting issue, whether in these cases we are voting for the individual's actions who may be controlling many nations, or keeping working the RP of NationStates within which the GA and SC operate, do we vote based on an individual nation's actions entirely separate from any "puppets.'"

Pookyvania, Tiku, Prunasia, and Kuriko

Personally, I have a long standing policy of voting against commendations if they only ever benefit one region, feeder or not; in this case CoE benefited North Pacific and The Black Hawks, but through separate puppets, and I tend to disregard the benefits to raider orgs because the benefits don't usually contribute anything good to NSG as a whole, or do so at everyone elses expense... Some exception apply, however, such as Raidercon, and other significant cultural events.

I don't know, I'm torn. But as Phoenix said, the actions of CoE and his puppet in the North Pacific should be commended/condemned based on their nations actions, not their controller. Seems like they're just trying to get a badge on a raider nation again.

I feel he's been around and active enough to consider it with the things he's done, but the things he's done have only benefitted a select group of people and not the majority of the world.

Probably gonna reject.

I think it's not even credited anymore.. Zimbabwe just gave up..

Also getting a commendation as a raider is like mega honor now days because it's considered impossible. plus noone ever gives them condemnations anymore..

Not 100% sure, but judging from past discussions on the WA and SC forums, at least the few I've seen, the Rules apparently say that resolutions, commendations, etc. have to be for nations by a nation writing for the organization. This would suggest that puppet nations should be commended as a their own nation and not the player behind them.

Lemme check.

Ah, here it is. SC Rule 4.(b)

(b)You must refer to nations as nations, not as the player behind them. This includes the use of pronouns such as "he" or "she" as opposed to "they".

Maybe this doesn't apply now, since it's on vote and it hasn't been ruled to be invalid yet. That, or if what the 1000 Islands delegate is saying is true, there's significant behind-the-scenes movement by the commendee's allies.

Regardless of all this, it seems to be a highly contested proposal. Just look at the voting history!

Does the SC still get all uppity when nations from the same region or org commend each other? I try to stay out of that cess pit

I feel like this needs to be recognized more often, as I see a lot of proposals referring to players and their puppets. Perhaps if it gets passed, it could be repealed on these grounds.

Whoa! I did not even realize... I've been around for 13 years, and was just recently considering hanging up my nationstates gloves... But maybe I'll stick around a while longer.

The The House at Pooh Corner has risen, like a Phoenix, from the ashes of its former self.

We are a small region comprised of somewhat confused animals, minerals, and vegetables. Visitors are welcome, but we don't exchange embassies unless we have a great deal in common with a region (which should probably worry those few regions with whom we do have embassies). Please feel free to drop in, play Pooh Sticks, and enjoy muffins and mimosas, but please be kind and nice to the inhabitants.
