I agree very strongly with Pope Francis call for universal basic income. It would be the resurgence of free speech and preaching the word would become more common as losing your job for speaking the truth would no longer be so horrific as you would still have a reasonable income without work. There are also people around the world who are unemployed by the worldly sense but who are in reality working for God by spreading his word and those people deserve to be funded.

Of course there are going to be people who just sit around and never work a day in their lives but there are some jobs out there right now that I wouldn't call productive at the least (bankers, administrators, callcenter workers, salesmen etc.) so there wouldn't be much of a difference. Being unemployed for most people is fun for maybe a week or two but as most of us know after those two weeks you start getting tired of it so I couldn't see it lowering employment rate but rather improve working conditions since now the employer exists for the employees instead of vice versa.

If anything it would allow people to do what they are actually called to do and actually have fun at work instead of having to be slaves to corporate bureaucrats.
