New wilhelmsland

ROLEPLAY

Kingdom of New Wilhelmsland

British North America seemed prime for a Civil War in the 1770’s, due to the constant protesting against taxes set in place by the British Crown on the Americans. However, this conflict was averted by King George III’s Proclamation of Autonomy. This was issued in response to the Olive Branch Petition issued by the Second Continental Congress.

As a result of the Proclamation of Autonomy, the nation of New Wilhelmsland was born. The new nation had similar mechanisms as today: The Continental Congress, featuring the House of Representatives and the House of Lords, the Prime Minister, and the Governor General. Similarly to today, the Prime Minister served as the presiding officer of the House of Representatives. Also like today, the Governor General was the directing hand of the New Wilhelmslandian state. Unlike today however, the Governor General was appointed by the British Crown.

The modernization of New Wilhelmsland took place in three stages: 1836, 1924, and 1980.

In 1836, the independence of New Wilhelmsland was expanded for the first time. The British government allowed the citizens of New Wilhelmsland to elect the Governor General, rather than having the American leader be an appointed position.

New Wilhelmslandian independence would be further built upon in 1924 when the United Kingdom would yield the right to direct the foreign affairs of New Wilhelmsland.

However, the British government did not yield the ability to be the approving authority of New Wilhelmslandian constitutional changes. This authority would not be yielded until 1980. The 1980 Constitution Act produced three main items: the legislative separation of New Wilhelmsland from the United Kingdom, the guarantee of basic individual rights, and the ability to amend the Constitution.

With the recent election of Johnathan Evander and his National Party, it appears that major change may be on the horizon for New Wilhelmsland yet again...
