Region: The Leftist Assembly

State of the Legislature

Comrades and Assemblians,

What a term we've had. For the first time ever; we had a General Assembly in which every member was not incumbent. The legislature saw new faces and old faces, and a change in faces. Thank you to comrades Vandensia and Greylyn for their service, even if it was truncated and they've moved on to other regions. Their time in the General Assembly was treasured and their service invaluable. I would also like to move on to comrades Talao and Soviet catgirls for stepping up in the eleventh hour and taking on the vacant position in the GA.

The 20th General Assembly ran fast and hard, passing 10 serious pieces of legislation, including landmark legislation formally establishing gameside powers of regional officers, creating a backup region in the event that the primary region is compromised, and clarification and updating to Dual and Military Citizenship. We also continued the tradition of running non-serious legislation or Joke Laws when the serious legislation runs dry.

As one of my promises as Speaker, I pledged to take a new MGA under my wing and train them in as Deputy Speaker in hopes that they will carry the torch onwards. I would like to thank my first Deputy Speaker, Vandensia, for their service to the legislature and to the region despite the circumstances of their departure. After Van's departure, a successor to him was clear, and I would like to thank Help me take over the world please/New Flamington for stepping up to the post of Deputy Speaker - your future in the region is bright.

Of course, I cannot write a State of the Legislature without thanking each and every Member of the General Assembly:

Asturies-Llion - I appreciate your care and attention in your deliberations as MGA, ensuring that your votes are as well informed as possible and that the legislation is as clear and effective as possible.
Greylyn - I appreciated the energy you brought to the General Assembly, ensuring there was never a dull moment and that we always had something to do, even if what we were doing wasn't exactly serious.
Grod Island - I appreciate your experience and clarity in legislation, you were a true asset to the General Assembly
New Flamington - I appreciate your adaptability; how quickly you moved from being in your first governmental post and first few months in the region to one of our most vocal and active MGAs to our new Deputy Speaker, introducing legislation and facilitating discussion like you've done it your entire life.
Kongoland - I appreciate your perspective and way of expressing your thoughts - it was always a treat to read your vote explanations.
Vandensia - I appreciated your vocality and humour, as well as your service as Deputy Speaker.
Talao - I appreciate your tenacity and willingness to step up when the region needed it most.
Soviet catgirls - I appreciate the fact that you challenged the GA; you came in an outsider and newcomer but were not afraid to debate, and when you debated you were passionate and well informed.

Of course, the parade of thank you's would not be complete without thanking the most important part of the region, you. I cannot thank enough the Assemblians of our region; for electing us, for supporting us, for voicing your opinions, for writing legislation, for giving us a region to legislate for, for everything. The Leftist Assembly has become a home for so many of us, myself included, and the home is not tied to a nation simulation game made by some Australian author, it's about the people - you the Assemblians. I cannot express in words how thankful I am to have this region, this community to serve.

I'd like to thank Dyl for serving as our fearless leader - making great strides in our foreign relations; fostering a safe, fun, happy, and healthy region; and rolling with the punches and adapting to the changing situations we have. Our founders: Llorens, Kavagrad, and Cedoria, for the service they do for the region - seen and unseen. Previous Speaker, Antinios for running a strong and active General Assembly and allowing us to carry on that torch.

Finally, I would like to mention the upcoming elections. The election season starts in just a few hours, March 1st, and the more people that run the merrier. The General Assembly is a fantastic place for new nations to get their start in government - it's a low commitment and generally, quite an easy job that requires you to just check Discord once or twice a day, read some legislation, voice opinions you may have, and vote on the legislation. If you have any questions at all, you can feel free to contact me via NS Telegram or Discord DM, or really any governmental officer - all of us would be glad to help. I cannot stress enough how important and valuable it is for our region to continue to see new faces in government.

In short; I'd like to thank all of the MGAs and each and every one of you Assemblians - to serve as your Speaker has been an honour and privilege, thank you.

Unity in Diversity!

- Podria
