The Spoken Summit

After years of tension between the Federation of Sovern, and Malulota; the Chancellor and the honorable - President Alduin; have finally buried the hatchet once and for all. Through careful negotiation, the two heads-of-states were able to compromise on a trade agreement, mutual defense agreement, and an exchange of vows for peace and harmony between the two countries under their respective reigns. May this be the nation's next big leap of greatness.

Through the recent abolishment of physical currencies, Wonderland has officially adopted a cryptocurrency known to its creator as "Rainbow Credits". Under government supervision and regulation, the new form of tender will not only promise accurate transactions of funds, but also more security and safety. Muggings are the thing of the past, and with extensive security measures, the ability to hack or illegally "mine" Rainbow Credits is impossible. The ability for other nations to adopt this new "fad" is something disclosed to discussion at the moment.

In the attempt to bring peace between Rekua and Reaper Sythe, the Queen has agreed to begin trading with the unknown organization. Hopefully, this will bring them closer and a solid relationship can develop.

The recruits have been hard at work in their training. They've been busy with basic firearms training and marksmanship. They've also learned some more advanced hand-to-hand combat. As they passed the first 3 weeks and are now into the second 3 weeks the recruits are also beginning to notice that Lt. Krueger, the crazy, angry, racist he is, has actually been a bit... nicer to the recruits... well at least treating them a bit more like human beings anyway. The recruits think that it's either that or they are just getting used to Lt. Krueger. Their physical training has also gotten more difficult.

After a long day of physical training on the training course in the camp the recruits are exhausted and have been assembled by Lt. Krueger. The recruits stand at the base of large wooden tower that rises high above them all. At the top of this tower Lt. Krueger stands to address the recruits.

"Alright maggots. I know you're tired after a day of running your asses around the training course here. The tower I stand on before you all is the newest method of torture I have at my disposal to use on you. You will scale this tower freehand. Once at the top you will then rappel down. You and your battle-buddy must ascend and descend together. Everyone of you must do this successfully before you will be allowed to return to barracks. This could take a few hours or it could take days. Hell if one of you falls and breaks something it could be weeks. It's up to you." With that Lt. Krueger goes and sits down in a lawn chair he had placed for him on top of the tower. The Staff Sergeants begin yelling at the recruits, barking like mad dogs to drive the troops up and over.

Sovern & Tritra
The first of the two recruits begin their attempt. The recruit from Sovern is getting a fairly good start but his battle-buddy from Tritra is really struggling. As the two recruits slowly scale the tower they can see Lt. Krueger pop his head over the edge, look at them, and then walk away. The next thing the recruits know their are rocks being thrown at them from the top of the tower. Looking up they can see Lt. Krueger dropping rocks on them.

"Oh did I forget to mention that there'll be obstacles? HAHAHAHA" Lt. Krueger yells down to those below before erupting into an almost maniacal laughter.

It isn't long after this that Lt. Krueger lands some good hits and causes the recruits lose their place and fall from the side of the tower back down to the ground.

OOC: 3 & 9
Hedra & Volohk
The two recruits make their attempt to scale the tower. It's a similar sight to that of those who made the first attempt with one getting a good start and the other struggling. Lt. Krueger continues his dropping of rocks and other debris down on the recruits to obstruct their ascent. The Hedran recruit gets hit and begins losing his grip. As he slips he reaches out his hand towards his battle-buddy. Eckhart not wanting to touch the Hedran's hand does not reach to take it to help his comrade and Reed falls. Eckhart then takes a barrel to the head and chest Lt. Krueger tossed down from above.

The Berber states & Garnel
The two battle-buddies work together in scaling the tower. The recruit from The Berber States scales the tower very well while trying to help his battle-buddy up. They get close to reaching the top when Lt. Krueger throws down a large wooden fence post which hits both the recruits and sends them down to the ground.

Valgoria & Wato Salia
The two battle-buddies scale the tower working together to help each other up. It is through this tower that the two recruits are the first to make it to the top.

Velkisa & Holy Barbarian Empire
The Velkisan recruit manages to scramble up the tower dodging the falling obstacles with ease but as the Velkisan recruit reaches the top Lt. Krueger runs up and gives the recruit a spartan kick to the chest kicking them off the top of the tower. As the Velkisan recruit falls they take out their battle-buddy who is struggling to ascend the tower.

"Have a great fall maggots! HAHAHA" Laughs Lt. Krueger. The recruits haven't seen Lt. Krueger smile this much since he went to take the belt sander to recruit Reed's privates.

IC: Hyperborean Foreign Legion: Bootcamp: Tower Trouble:
Eventually each pair of recruits makes it up to the top of the tower after dodging the obstacles being thrown down from the top of the tower by Lt. Krueger. Each pair of recruits learns that the only way they can scale the tower is by working together. Some pairs of recruits take longer than the others to get up the tower such as Reed and Eckhart who may have temporarily put aside the dislike of the other for the time being have a hard time dodging the obstacles. Despite getting knocked down each time they dont give up and get a little bit closer to the top of the tower before eventually making it and repelling down the other side of the tower. All of the recruits are even more sore and tired after this grueling exercise.

After a few more weeks of phase two training and having to scale the tower once again the recruits graduate from phase 2 to phase 3. As the recruits get better over time they find that their instructors are appearing more human and not yelling nearly as much. Even Lt. Krueger shockingly enough.

Lt. Krueger speaks to the recruits after their graduation to phase 3.

"Well, well, well maggots. You've managed to make it to phase 3 of your training. Not bad but you're not out of the meatgrinder yet so don't expect to hear a good job from me you bunch of dirty foreigners! Now you're all in phase 3. This is when we start to get into the fun stuff. You will engage in the highest levels of weapons and combat training so that you will be able to graduate from basic training. Much of your training will be done under live fire so make sure you don't get your heads blown off. You will also be trained to use power armor. Real fun with real toys.

I also have a very special message for you all. Your graduation test will consist of a live fire war game with other Hyperborean troops. We are all fortunate enough that as part of this live fire war game there will be an atomic test conducted. That's right maggots you will all be able to get a glimpse to see what it was like to fight back during the big one. We are blessed that we will be able to be blessed by atomic fire. I say get a glimpse because this atomic test will use a pure fusion device detonation so we wont have all that nasty radiation to deal with. But regardless of that you will be trained how to deal with the hazards of radiation. You may or may not have some sort of mental malfunction by being in the presence of such an event so be prepared for that. The psychological evaluation should've weeded such weaklings out but sometimes they miss a couple whackos."

After this the recruits spend their remaining few weeks taking part in advanced basic training crawling through mud and razor wire while bullets race overhead. The teamwork they've learned from the previous 3 weeks helps them as they have learned to rely on each other and learned to help share the burden of the increased stressed. They also spend a lot of time in advanced weapons training where they refine their skills and marksmanship with their weapons.

IC: It's the middle of the night and Reed and Eckhart are out on their turn of fire watch around the barracks.

"Hey uh listen Jagoff. I just wanted to tell ya. I'm sorry if I come off as a little rough sometimes. It's just... I know some of the recruits signed up with the foreign legion for the adventure of being in the Hyperborean army and all that stuff. It's just that I signed up so I can make a life for myself. I've wanted to move to Hyperborea for what seems like my whole life. I grew up hearing the stories of how Volohk was founded as a Hyperborean colony during ancient times. Volohk isn't an awful place to live but it isn't the best either. Vostag is the land of opportunity. I'm just trying so hard because I may never get this chance again."

Alright everyone the time has come once again. NUKE-DAY 5 has arrived!

For those of you new to N-Day here is a dispatch to explain the basics.

OVERVIEW

N-Day is an opportunity for nations to come together and exchange nuclear weapons in a fiery Armageddon of mutually assured destruction.

To Participate

  1. Once N-Day begins, join a Faction. Nations outside a Faction can't attack or be attacked. You can join a Faction when you're ready and leave when you're not (to stay safe).

  2. Watch your nation automatically generate Production at a rate of 1 every 2 minutes. Use it to build Nukes and Shield.

  3. Launch Nukes at other nations and use Shield to shoot down Nukes that are launched at you.

Tactics

The simplest way to play N-Day is to join whichever Faction seems most fun and start targeting Nukes at its enemies while shooting down anything incoming. Your Faction page's icon bar shows everything you need to know, including who's targeting anyone in your Faction, and who your fellow Faction members are targeting.

Attacking: Step by Step

  1. On your Production screen, spend some of your Production to build Nukes. These go into your Stockpile.

  2. On another nation's Nuke page, click/tap the TARGET button and select the number of Nukes to use.

  3. Once Targeted, it takes 10 minutes for your Nukes to reach a READY state. Note that your Targeted page is public: All nations can see who is targeting whom.

  4. When your Targeted Nukes are ready, click/tap LAUNCH.

  5. Your Nukes are now categorized as Launches for you and Incoming for your target. Launched Nukes take 3-5 minutes to reach their target. When they do, they earn Strikes for you and inflict Radiation on the target, which reduces their rate of Production. This also earns Score for your Faction and reduces the enemy Faction's Score.

Defending: Step by Step

  1. On the Production screen, spend Production to build Shield.

  2. Find Launched Nukes to destroy. Your top priority is any Incoming Nukes launched at you. Secondarily, you may wish to target Incoming Nukes on anyone in your Faction (see your Faction's Incoming page), and also keep an eye on Targeted Nukes that may threaten you or your Faction in the near future.

  3. Click/tap DESTROY to deploy 1 Shield per Nuke.

Strategy

Strategically, it may be wise to avoid attacks on nations or Factions until you are confident of obliterating them, since this eliminates the possibility of counter-attack. Smaller-scale attacks, which damage but don't destroy an enemy, can lead to an escalating series of grudge-related nuclear exchanges.

On the other hand, targeting an enemy can be an effective warning. And it takes Nukes 10 minutes to be ready to launch, so you can't leave it too late.

Scoring

Each Nuke that reaches a target causes Radiation damage, which reduces the target's rate of Production generation and counts as a Strike for the attacker.

A Faction's Score is Strikes minus Radiation.

Duration

N-Day lasts for 24 hours, after which point, an Arms Control Agreement means that no Nukes can be launched. (In-flight nukes can still land, however.)

The "winner" is the Faction with the highest score; if, that is, nuclear war can be said to have a winner. Which we say it can. It's the Faction with the highest score.

FACTIONS

Once N-Day begins, Factions can be founded by a Regional Officer of any region. Any and all Regional Officers of that region can update the Faction's official text to issue instructions to Faction members.

Factions can be made open to all members, or restricted to the region's members only.

You can leave your Faction, which is a good way to stay safe if you're signing off for the night. However, you can only do this if you're not engaged with the enemy! That means:

  • You must not have any nukes targeted or launched at another nation; and

  • No nukes can be targeted or incoming on you.

Note that in practice, this can make it challenging to leave a Faction, since you may be frequently targeted.

While outside a Faction, you cannot be targeted, and do not generate any Production.

Before joining, it's worth making sure a Faction isn't currently under mass bombardment.

SPECIALTIES

Nations are randomly assigned a specialty.

Military Specialists build Nukes faster: They receive 50% more Nukes when converting Production.

Strategic Specialists build Shield faster: They receive 50% more Shield when converting Production.

Economic Specialists can accumulate more Production: Their cap is 200% higher.

PRODUCTION

Nations generate Production automatically at a rate of 1 Production per 2 minutes.

Production can be spent on Nukes or Shield.

If not spent, Production accumulates up to a maximum of 50 for Military and Strategic Specialists and 200 for Economic Specialists.

NUKES

Nukes are purchased with Production, kept in stockpile until ready, then targeted and launched at an enemy nation.

Launched Nukes take 3-5 minutes to reach their target. While in-flight, they can be shot down by any nation using Shield. If they're not, each Nuke generates 1% of Radiation in the target and earns 1 Strike for the attacker.

SHIELD

Shield can be used to knock out Launched Nukes. You can shoot down any in-flight Nukes regardless of who they are aimed at.

Locate in-flight Nukes under Launches or Incoming, and use the DESTROY button to eliminate them at a rate of 1 Shield per Nuke.

It is possible to waste Shield if multiple nations deploy Shield simultaneously to knock out the same Nukes.

TARGETING

Target a nation by viewing their Nuke page and clicking/tapping TARGET. You may then select how many Nukes to target from your Stockpile.

It takes 10 minutes for a Targeted Nuke to reach a READY state, after which it may be launched.

If not launched after 1 hour, Targeted Nukes automatically return to your Stockpile.

RADIATION

Radiation is generated in a nation when it is struck by a Nuke.

Radiation proportionately reduces a nation's Production generation rate. For example, 20% Radiation reduces Production generation by 20%.

When a nation is 100% Radiated, it is destroyed and no longer able to launch any Nukes nor use any Shield.

Radiation is irreversible.

You can leave a Faction when irradiated, but this does not affect your Faction's score.

SCORE

A Faction's score measures strikes and radiation that occurred while those nations were a member. It is unaffected by nations joining or leaving the Faction.

GLOSSARY

Term

Explanation

Production

Used to buy Nukes and Shield. Automatically generated by all non-destroyed nations in a Faction.

Nuke

Unholy instrument of death and destruction.

Stockpiled Nuke

A Nuke that has been purchased with Production and is sitting idle, awaiting a target.

Targeted Nuke

A Nuke that has been targeted at a nation. A targeted Nuke takes 10 minutes to achieve a READY state, after which it may be launched.

Launched/Incoming/In-Flight Nuke

A Nuke that has been launched at a nation and is currently chewing up 3-5 minutes of in-flight time.

Shield

A unit of defensive technology. Possibly involves lasers or satellites or something.

Strike

A record of how many Nukes have successfully landed on targets.

Radiation

A record of how many Nukes have struck the nation. Reduces Production generation.

Faction

A group of nations sharing a common interest in survival and/or bloodlust.

Score

Strikes minus Radiation.

Every N-Day we here in Barbaria usually do something. Be it nuking another region or each other. Unfortunately my plan to play this N-Day with Luzerut has fallen through because nobody responded to their telegrams. SO that means we go to plan B!

So this year we will be having a contest. You will all get into teams and see who can nuke the other teams the most. Who dies first. All that fun stuff! Whichever team wins will be greatly rewarded! So begin thinking about your teams quickly now as N-Day begins in 11 hours and we all know just how important that first strike is.
