Yes authoritarianism can exist without companies but companies can also exist without the government (anarcho capitalism)

If left unchecked they can absolutely commit human rights abuses and deprive people of basic necessities. Peter thiel for example is trying to establish an entire anarcho capitalist society in Honduras as we speak. Also Somalia and Yemen are prime examples of places where companies deprive people of basic resources because their governments don’t exist essentially.

It goes both ways so I believe the debate is pointless.
