Anything else that gives a badge: founding a region, issue author or editor, WA author, commendation or condemnation, site supporter, moderator, mentor, GA Secretariat, WA member, Delegate, etc. I suspect the number of easter eggs, also.

What is the Oatland Games? Sporting event roleplay?

Just had a look at the nations currently Finmany has the highest health statistics and it may likely stay that way unless Eduard Foofila joins in with his team regime of 30 banana's a day.

2019 Oatland Winter Games

The Oatland Regional Games are an international sporting event held in Oatland. Its purpose is to promote sporting excellence and international brotherhood. The games are biannual, with winter games held in February and summer games held in June. Each game consists of numerous events in which athletes compete for the gold, silver and bronze metal. This years winter game has eight events: Figure Skating, Cross Country Skiing, Ice Hockey, Freestyle Skiing, the Biathlon, Alpine Skiing, Curling and a new event, Bobsledding.

Example roster:

Figure Skating - Angèle Dior, Lionel Genet
Cross Country Skiing - Marc Gérald, Céline Berlioz
Ice Hockey - Yes
Freestyle Skiing - Philippe Jauffret, Gérald Pretre
Bobsledding - Yes
The Biathlon - Christine Girard, Olivia Gaudreau, Jean-Yves Bachelot, Julie Rousselle
Alpine Skiing - René Pascal, Marinette Derocles, Nathan Carré
Curling - Yes

Eligibility
The games are open to all nations that are residents of Oatland, all nations that are residents of a region that has an embassy with Oatland and all nations which have previously competed in the games.

How to participate
In order to compete nations should telegram a list of competing athletes to Aclion, the event organizer.
This list should contain the full name of each competing athlete as well as the event they will competing in.
Nations are currently limited to sixteen athletes total and are allowed to allocate up to five to each event. If an athlete is competing in more then one event then each entry is counted separately towards the nations total athlete pool.
The exception is the team events, ice hockey, curling and bobsledding, in these events nations may only allocate one "competitor". This entry represents the nation's team so will just be named after that nation(unless you want to give a team name I guess)

Scoring
The exact system used for scoring is secret. However, nations should note that having a high heath stat will give them a small advantage in the games, nations can also gain an advantage by shrewd allocation of their athletes.
Nations can also take advantage of various bonuses, which are added to their athletes scores. Nations can earn team-wide bonuses by publishing team logos, uniform designs and anthems. Additionally nations that publish short biographies of competitors can earn a bonus for that competitor. Nations can also earn a bonus in a specific sport simply by noting that this sport is their nation's speciality when submitting their roster. Please be sure to submit all material by the sign-up deadline if you wish it to count towards your score.

Additionally when choosing competitors for your roster note that athletes and teams which earned medals in the previous winter games will automatically receive a bonus if they return to compete in the same event.

Oh, that looks very cool. I love how NationStates continues to surprise me with nuggets such as this. People are so creative. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll have the time to meet the Feb. 1 deadline, but I'll keep it in the back of my mind as something to attempt. We'll see, we'll see...

Did you go all out and design team uniforms and write bios? I really love the idea of trying to do that.

Also, did you submit under "GoodKingWenceslas"? Do you prefer to use an alternate nation for things like this?

I inquire, because I never know quite what to do in situations such as this... I don't really have a "main" nation I use all the time. The above-mentioned Christ Triumphant is my oldest nation, which seems to be the status-quo for one's "main" nation here, though I am often hesitant to use that, wanting to avoid being seen as a religious fundamentalist. I usually hop from nation to nation for whatever the circumstance requires...

Incidentally, I have frequently encountered "Bears Armed" throughout my tenure on this site, and I really appreciate his style. He's seemingly got a different "Bear" nation for each region he's associated with. "Bears Disarmed" for a peaceful, neutral region; "Bears Rearmed" for another; "Bears Armada" for a nautical region; "Flying Armed Bears" for another...and, of course, "Bears of the North Pole" for some region I can't quite recall....

I struggle with the concept of 'main' nation too. I've half a dozen nations that I use fairly frequently for different purposes.

Unrelated, I found this:

I'm loving the 'Santa Stick Up'

You use your real nation name but you make up your athletes names. This may help.

Figure skating:Kalin Trusdale is a new athlete to the field with a lot of potential however if this will be shown is unknown. After Kalin's performance last year we have decided to give a newcomer Eric "the swan" Stevens a shot at a medal we are not sure why he is called that but his swan noises when he enters the stadium may have something to do with it.

Cross country skating: Jonathon Smith has a mixed record and has the most inconsistent performance out of all the team how he will turn out here is anyone's guess. To provide backup we have another athlete who was injured last games called Katie Jackson who still has a respectable record lets hope they can bring back a medal.

Ice hockey: The immortals team has been placed together by a national competition for the best to create this team.

Freestyle skiing: Rex Anderson and Steve Anderson are both brothers with three years in between they both chose the same event perhaps because they can still compete against each other. After their performances last year we have decided to allocate extra finds there and been able to get two new athletes in the event George and Henry Atlas who conveniently are also brothers.

Biathlon: Jason Crane is a consistent veteran of the nation who is very well respected and one of our highest hope for a gold. However after Jason's disappointing performance last year we have decided to turn him into a cyborg to improve his chances of victory. Also joining him is Nicholas Hopcroft a new athlete who has a serious obsession with father Christmas for some reason.

Alpine skiing: Jack Ainsworth is an athlete who became the national champion despite many bad things happening in his life this has made him mentally strong so he can't be psyched out. Despite their performance last year we hope this was a good taster for this year and at the last minute we also found a new up and coming athlete called Robert Darling who despite the name is a very serious athlete with some hopes of a medal.

Curling: They get the name Goodwin's as they are all related to Rex Goodwin somehow even the whole support team.

Bobsledding: Due to many severe injuries to our athletes we decided to allow robots compete and non other than in the form of Santa and the best part is we won't feel any guilt as they won't be beating our athletes.

Athletes

Figure skating: Kalin Trusdale and Eric "the swan" Stevens.
Cross country skating: Jonathon Smith and Katie Jackson
Ice hockey: The immortals
Freestyle skiing: Rex and Steve Anderson also George and Henry Atlas
Biathlon: Jason Crane and Nicholas Hopcroft.
Alpine skiing: Jack Ainsworth and Robert Darling
Curling: The Goodwin's
Bobsledding: Robo Santa's

The nations specialist sport will be Freestyle skiing after we achieved our only medal there last year.

Just looking at Little St Nick's Christmas card collection I had no idea you had 38 it might actually be worth trying to get the whole region not as a serious competition or anything just an interesting challenge.

Well, given that the cards were meant to be a "snapshot" of that particular moment in NS, I think this is understandable...I would presume there are many present delegates whose cards do not reflect that status. There's always Season 2...

By the by, Little St Nick, what was the result of your dilemma regarding those last few overlooked Christmas decorations?

Ah. You mean these decorations.
Yeah. So after a week long poll, which closed two days and twenty hours ago, it was decided that I should definitely put them away properly.
And I will. Honest. Yes, they may still be on the floor outside the cupboard door just now, but they will get put away properly. Eventually.

Ah, good man.

Likewise, my Christmas tree still sits fully-decorated in the same place. Perhaps for the best, I have a looming deadline at the end of the month when my landlord drops by for the rent -- can't allow him to glimpse the fire hazard I am currently harboring in his building...even if it is a beautifully-decorated fire hazard.

LMAO! I'd wondered vaguely about suppressing it at the time (it was something to do with sinners being able to find Jesus, and I have a far more secular view of the world). But then, our region is named after the Birthday Boy, so I left it alone.

"Cats" would be a good collection - there must be hundreds around NS. It would be cool if there was a library of card Collections. Occasionally I come across some really cool ones, but it's always accidental.
