Kalea Chronicle - Investigation Update: Businessmen Tied to Scandal; Arraignment Date for Keone Set

Kalean government agents seizing evidence from Keonaona Keone's office in Heiau.

In a recent turn of events, the ongoing investigation into the scandal surrounding former Co-Chair Keonaona Keone has taken a new twist, implicating several prominent Kalean businessmen in the web of corruption. As authorities delve deeper into the questionable financial transactions and unethical dealings, evidence has emerged linking these individuals to the illicit funds and corrupt activities associated with Keone. The investigation has uncovered a series of financial ties between Keone and a group of influential businessmen in Kalea. Documents and bank records obtained by investigators reveal a complex network of transactions, shell companies, and offshore accounts used to facilitate money laundering and illicit financial activities. It appears that these businessmen were key players in enabling Keone's corrupt schemes, using their resources and connections to further their own interests at the expense of the public. While the specific names of the implicated businessmen have not been officially disclosed, sources close to the investigation have hinted at their prominence within Kalea's business community. These individuals have long enjoyed a reputation for success and influence, but the revelation of their involvement in corrupt practices has sent shockwaves through the economic landscape of the nation. Authorities are meticulously analyzing the financial records and conducting interviews to establish a clear link between the businessmen and the illicit funds. If proven, these individuals could face charges of money laundering, bribery, and conspiracy, among other offenses. The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of their involvement and bring them to justice.

The implications of this new development are far-reaching. It not only tarnishes the reputation of the businessmen involved but also raises questions about the overall integrity of Kalea's business environment. The revelation of their complicity in corrupt activities underscores the urgent need for stronger regulatory measures and increased transparency in the corporate sector. As the investigation proceeds, the citizens of Kalea are demanding accountability not only from their political representatives but also from these influential businessmen. They seek a thorough investigation into their actions and appropriate legal consequences to ensure that no one is above the law. The impact of this revelation on the public's trust in the Kalean business community cannot be understated. Rebuilding that trust will require a collective effort from both the government and the private sector. It is imperative for businesses in Kalea to reassess their ethical standards, adopt stringent compliance measures, and actively work towards creating a culture of integrity and transparency.

Among the charges that Keone now faces are money laundering, bribery, embezzlement, and abuse of power. The investigation has revealed a pattern of financial impropriety and unethical behavior, painting a troubling picture of corruption at the highest levels of Kalea's government. The evidence collected so far has provided a solid basis for these charges, and prosecutors are confident in their case against Keone. An arraignment date has been set for August 18, 2023, where Keonaona Keone will be formally charged and have an opportunity to enter a plea. The arraignment will mark a significant milestone in the investigation, as it signals the transition from the gathering of evidence to the judicial process. Keone will have the opportunity to present a defense, and the court will determine the next steps in the legal proceedings.

*Disclaimer: The investigation into the scandal surrounding Keonaona Keone and the involvement of prominent Kalean businessmen remains ongoing. Further details and the disclosure of specific names are expected as the investigation progresses.

LIVE: President Antar says Hisrea can vie for independence

President Husani Antar stated in an address to Parliament that Hisrea province has the right to vie for independence should its populace desire to do so. The controversial position stands in sharp contrast to decades of resistance from the Zalluabedi government's often harsh crackdowns on Hisrean independence movements, which have included prolonged conflicts in the region that drew in TTPA forces on multiple occasions and have left tens of thousands dead. Hisrea, the westernmost province of Zalluabed, is a semi-autonomous state following the signing of the Osea Accords in late 2021. Though it is a province of Zalluabed, it has been governed by the Hisrea People's Liberation Front (HPLF), a Sunni-Islamic fundamentalist, militant, and nationalist organization with ties to Al-Fijar, since 2014, and officially designated as an autonomous region since 2021 under the Osea Accords. The capital and largest city is Huad, with other major settlements including Haba, Dueifa, and Afakim. It has been placed under an WEDA-led international economic and political boycott from that time onwards due to HPLF-sponsored terrorist attacks against Albarine. The status of the region was determined through the course of many conflicts, including the most recent 2019-21 War, which resulted in human rights abuses and international condemnation.

SAINT RANEAU TIMES
ANTAR MEETS WITH MELHAVEN IN SAINT RANEAU

It is the first time a Zalluabedi president has stepped foot in Albarine, a sign of thawing tensions

Chancellor Melhaven smiles as she welcomes Antar to the capital.

SAINT RANEAU - Chancellor Sadie Melhaven welcomed Zalluabedi president Husani Antar to the capital of Saint Raneau on Monday for talks between the two leaders in the first ever visit to Albarine by a Zalluabedi leader. The historic summit comes as Antar's fresh government has made strides to mend its foreign relations after a tumultuous four decades of standoff-ish policy and siding with antagonistic nations like Beleroskov and Drambenburg. While Zalluabed's new leader has not made pledges to end many of the issues on which his country and Albarine vehemently disagree, the summit is seen as a starting point to what Melhaven called "a vital and arm-opening moment for our nations."

President Antar's plane touched down in Saint Raneau early in the morning on Monday, where he was greeted by Albarinean president Pil Allais. The two then rode together in an open-top vehicle to the National Assembly, where much of the legislature and government ministers, adorned by a crowd of onlookers waving Albarinean and Zalluabedi flags, cheered. Chancellor Melhaven and her husband, Commander Miles Chiworth, greeted Antar and his wife, Mussa. Zalluabedi Foreign Minister Saiman Firaj was the accompanying chair to the Zalluabedi delegation. The heads of state and government then posed for pictures before inspecting the filed and ranked soldiers of both militaries, marking the first time since 1899 that Zalluabedi and Albarinean soldiers have stood shoulder to shoulder.

The pageantry did much to overcloud what have been a tense few decades and certainly tense few years between the two nations, from a violent insurgency in Hisrea often spilling over into border regions in Albarine's south, to unsanctioned missile tests, aggressive naval exercises, and the boiling 2020 Tarijar Strait crisis which nearly brought the two nations to war. Since Antar's election, and the narrow ascension of his Liberal League Party to a majority in Zalluabed's parliament in June, he has pursued friendly and de-escalatory policies such as a restraint on the frequency of naval drills, the halting of border checkpoint constructions, and a pledge to reopen the Albarinean and other WEDA state embassies in Zakaraban. While not all of his policies, in fact many of his policies, are popular in Zalluabed, a largely conservative Islamic nation, his efforts have been greeted with warmth and excitement from much of the international community, namely Zamastan and its allies in WEDA, the ANS, and the SBU. The TTPA, of which Zalluabed was a founding member, is experiencing a tense period with a decline in membership and political shifts throughout its member nations, and Antar's skepticism and criticism of the organization has surely set off alarms within its brass.

"We seek to be friends with our neighbors, and that starts with letting go of our animosities," Antar said during his speech in Saint Raneau. "Zalluabed strives to be a member of the South Adula community and no longer to be isolate. Zalluabed strives to work together with Albarine and our neighbors to accomplish great feats. And Zalluabed strives to join the world in making it a safer, more productive world, one without the need for tensions and fear."

Terehan withdrawal completed
Mixed reactions to the withdrawal were heard in the National Assembly.

Albarinean soldiers in Terehan

Turnow - The Albarinean military has completed its scheduled withdrawal of all combat forces from Terehan as it had aimed to do by the middle of July, a plan which was decided in March. 42 Albarinean soldiers died and hundreds more were injured during the WEDA campaign in Terehan, which saw the overthrow of the al-Shaad regime, the neutralization of the country's nuclear weapons programme, and the election of a new internationally-backed democratic government. In total, about 1,100 WEDA soldiers have died since fighting began in October of 2022. The military commanders of Albarine feel confident in their nation's mission having been completed, as a full combat withdrawal of other WEDA forces will be completed by September.

"Our men and women in uniform did the mission laid out in front of them and performed beyond what we asked of them," said General Paul Afeesbier. "We are satisfied that the remaining WEDA forces stationed in Terehan can complete what remains to be done, and the new Terehanian security forces have proved themselves to be expert in their field of counterterrorism and counterinsurgency, so confronting threats like ITAS and al-Fijar is no longer a situation of tensity, rather a situation of time. And we will be here to help in non-combat capacities, so we aren't abandoning this nation nor the mission, we are simply not putting our soldiers into combat, which has been agreed to by all invovled WEDA member states."

Kalea Chronicle - Investigation Update: Businessmen Involved in Scandal Identified

Businessmen Keoni Nakamura (right) and Kekoa Kahanu (left) were escorted by KDF police, with Leilani Iona following shortly behind out of frame.

In a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the scandal surrounding former Co-Chair Keonaona Keone, three prominent Kalean businessmen have been identified as co-conspirators in the web of corruption. These individuals, Keoni Nakamura, Kekoa Kahanu, and Leilani Iona, have been linked to a series of illicit financial transactions involving Keone. As authorities dig deeper, it has become evident that all the individuals involved can be traced back to a single offshore bank account controlled by an unknown party.

The investigation has uncovered compelling evidence connecting Keoni Nakamura, Kekoa Kahanu, and Leilani Iona to Keonaona Keone's corrupt activities. Financial records, communication logs, and witness testimonies have provided crucial leads, revealing their active involvement in facilitating money laundering, bribery, and other illicit dealings. Keoni Nakamura, a prominent figure in the hospitality industry, has allegedly used his connections and influence to assist Keone in concealing and moving illicit funds. Kekoa Kahanu, known for his successful ventures in the technology sector, is suspected of providing the necessary digital infrastructure to facilitate these fraudulent transactions. Leilani Iona, a savvy entrepreneur with investments in various industries, is believed to have played a significant role in creating complex networks of shell companies to disguise the origins and destinations of the illicit funds. As the investigation progresses, the authorities are determined to uncover the full extent of their involvement and shed light on the offshore bank account controlled by an unknown party. The citizens of Kalea demand transparency and accountability, hoping that justice will prevail and the truth behind these illicit financial dealings will be fully exposed.

In response to these alarming revelations, the Kalean business community is reeling from the fallout. The reputations of these prominent businessmen, once regarded as pillars of the local economy, are now tarnished by their alleged involvement in corruption. The ripple effects of their actions are felt not only in their respective industries but throughout the entire business landscape of Kalea. Investors and stakeholders are expressing concerns about the integrity of the marketplace and the need for stricter regulations to prevent such misconduct in the future. The business community has swiftly responded to the crisis, with industry leaders calling for greater transparency, enhanced due diligence, and ethical business practices. Collaborative efforts are underway to strengthen compliance measures, establish codes of conduct, and promote a culture of integrity in the Kalean business environment. It is a critical moment for the private sector to reassess its values and commit to rebuilding trust with stakeholders and the public.

As investigators tirelessly pursue leads and gather evidence, they face the significant challenge of unmasking the unknown party behind the offshore bank account. The authorities are employing various techniques, including engaging international financial institutions and working closely with forensic experts to trace the origins and beneficiaries of the funds. Every available avenue is being pursued to ensure that those who have exploited this account for illicit purposes are held accountable.

Bentho Enacts Sweeping Ban on Nicotine and Tobacco Products with Unanimous Senate Vote

In a groundbreaking legislative move, the nation of Bentho has taken a bold stand against nicotine and tobacco products, imposing a comprehensive ban on their use, distribution, and sale. The Senate vote, a resounding 100:0 in favor of the ban, solidified the nation's commitment to safeguarding public health and combatting the adverse effects of tobacco consumption. With this historic decision, Bentho joins the ranks of progressive nations actively working towards a smoke-free future.

Banned Nicotine and Tobacco Products

Cigarettes
Smokeless tobacco (chewing tobacco, snuff)
Cigars and cigarillos
Pipe tobacco
Vaping devices and e-cigarettes
Nicotine-containing gums, patches, and lozenges

The landmark bill, titled the "Bentho Tobacco Control Act," leaves no room for ambiguity, prohibiting any form of nicotine or tobacco products from being produced, imported, or sold within the country's borders. The legislation extends its reach to include nicotine-containing gums, patches, and lozenges, ensuring a comprehensive approach to combating nicotine addiction. Senator Maria Santos, a prominent advocate for public health, passionately championed the bill during the Senate debate. "The adverse health effects of tobacco are well-documented," she stated, "and it is our duty to protect our citizens from the devastating consequences of tobacco addiction." The Bentho government has outlined a comprehensive timeline for the implementation of the ban. Effective immediately, all forms of tobacco and nicotine products are no longer allowed to be manufactured, imported, or sold within the country. A six-month grace period has been provided for retailers to sell their existing stock, after which the ban will be fully enforced.

Various health organizations and experts have rallied behind the ban, citing its potential to improve public health and reduce tobacco-related diseases. Dr. Alejandro Fernandez, President of the National Health Association, applauded the decision, stating, "Bentho's commitment to a tobacco-free society is a significant step towards improving the well-being of its citizens and fostering a healthier future for generations to come."

To support individuals in quitting smoking and overcoming nicotine addiction, the government has allocated funds to expand smoking cessation programs and provide access to counseling and treatment services. Educational campaigns will be rolled out to raise awareness about the ban and highlight the benefits of leading a tobacco-free lifestyle. The significance of the ban extends beyond individual health to environmental and economic impacts. By reducing tobacco consumption, Bentho aims to decrease healthcare costs associated with tobacco-related illnesses and promote a more sustainable society. President Juan Carlos Caballero hailed the Senate's unanimous vote, stating, "Today marks a momentous occasion in our nation's history. By banning tobacco and nicotine products, we are taking a decisive step towards building a healthier, tobacco-free society for all Benthenses. This move reflects our commitment to the well-being of our citizens and sets an example for the world to follow."

President Juan Carlos Caballero's Approval Rating Skyrockets Past 64% with Bentho's Left League Support

In a remarkable surge of public support, President Juan Carlos Caballero's approval rating has soared to unprecedented heights, surpassing 64%. The latest opinion polls indicate a groundswell of approval from citizens across Bentho, particularly from members of the nation's progressive Left League. This substantial increase in support comes as President Caballero's administration continues to enact progressive policies and initiatives, resonating with the values and aspirations of the left-leaning electorate.

Since taking office, President Juan Carlos Caballero, a staunch advocate of social justice and equality, has consistently championed policies aimed at empowering marginalized communities, expanding access to education and healthcare, and fostering sustainable economic growth. His commitment to tackling pressing issues such as climate change, income inequality, and healthcare reform has garnered strong backing from the Left League, who view these efforts as transformative and in alignment with their core principles.

The recent surge in President Caballero's approval rating can be attributed to several key factors. His administration's successful implementation of various social welfare programs, including the Universal Healthcare Plan and the Expansion of Free Education, has significantly improved the lives of many Benthenses. These initiatives have resonated positively with citizens who appreciate the government's dedication to ensuring equal opportunities and a better quality of life for all.

Furthermore, the President's unwavering commitment to environmental conservation and renewable energy has struck a chord with the environmentally conscious citizens of Bentho. Under President Caballero's leadership, Bentho has witnessed a remarkable shift towards clean energy sources, positioning the nation as a global leader in sustainability and climate action. President Caballero's soaring approval ratings signal a promising mandate for his administration to continue pursuing progressive reforms and furthering the interests of the nation's most vulnerable populations. As the President maintains his commitment to social justice, environmental stewardship, and economic prosperity, Bentho stands united in its pursuit of a fairer, greener, and more inclusive future under the leadership of President Juan Carlos Caballero.

Pongi Joins PADC After Tense Wait

After a short wait, Pongi has been admitted to the PADC (Pan-Adulan Defence Coalition). This could significantly improve relations within the South-West Adulan area, which will foster co-operation between mutual nations.

The nation passed a bill allowing for the construction of a 231 Million Dollar defence facility near Brabram to host training exercises with the PADC, along with large upgrades to ammunition and the aircraft fleet. This marks a big change in the importance of Pongi's military, as the nation is known for its pacifist values. Reversing the Labour Party's 21 year hold on government, the new coalition are implementing changes in defence.

This will mean that the nation will have the chance to upgrade its dire aircraft and naval capabilities, which will help deter threats, especially from international vessels. While the PADC application has been hailed as extremely successful and good for the tourist-y nation, there were many doubts from the extremists, which argued that either Pongi could go on its own, or the nation does not need a military. Pongi has invested heavily into new tanks and missile systems to protect the nation.

Pongi will have a strong opportunity to connect with other nations inside of the alliance and deserves a functional, well working defence that can deter invaders. The nation has held shared military talks with a few countries before, but not on this scale realised by the nation's immaculate location. Rintt has also opened up the possibility of a leaders summit for the PADC, to discuss further details about the alliance.

Rintt's Approval Goes Up After Economic Stimulus Package

Last week, Parliament approved a 60 billion micron infrastructure and stimulus package which will boost freight rail lines, build a new port on the north side of Baranbay and to support small businesses in debt in tourist heavy areas. This is one of the largest infrastructure bills ever passed in Pongi, and it will come a long way to helping the economy and tourism grow.

Since passing the new budget and infrastructure bills, the government has become popular within the Pongian people. Rintt currently holds a 57% approval rating and the coalition is set to win the local elections by a historic margin. The lack of a honeymoon period could be attributed to hangover from the former government, which partnered with the Lib Dems many times over, and has held power for 21 years.

PROTESTS ERUPT IN NORTHERN OFFEAT, TWO WEEKS AFTER REFERENDUM
At least 30 people were injured in clashes between protestors and security officers in Northern Offeat, two weeks after the territory voted to join the federation. The protestors, unionized under the pro-independence movement on the island which opposed joining Saint Offeat in the referendum, had been in various degrees of demonstrations since the vote passed, but they reached a boiling point when some in the crowd began throwing rocks and glass bottles at security in the city of Hillsberg. Prime Minister Robert Lumbell commented on the protests saying that the right to free speech and open assembly was well within the rights of those opposing the referendum, but that violence would not be tolerated.

EUAN GUNN LAUNCHES 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID
ANCHORHEAD- Senator Euan Gunn has announced his candidacy for President, becoming the first contender to President Sabine Armitage and the first member of the GLP to do so ahead of April 2024's party conference. Gunn, who ran for president in 2020 and placed fourth overall, launched his campaign on the steps of Ebbes Protestant Church in Anchorhead, where he served as a pastor in the 1990s. In his speech, Gunn stated "it is time for a return to classical liberalism in this country, one which honors individual liberties as well as the plight of those without. We will return to a country which adopts the refugee, takes the route of peace, and denies the path of war."

Six soldiers killed in Jataran checkpoint attack
JATARAN- Six Zamastanian soldiers were killed when suspected ITAS gunman attacked a security checkpoint in the port city of Jataran. An additional 4 Terehanian security personel were also killed in the attack, and 3 other Zamastanians were injured. All suspected attackers were killed, and authorities say no civilians were harmed in the firefight which lasted around ten minutes. The attack, the deadliest for Zamastanian soldiers since March's bombing at a nearby WEDA barracks in the city, comes weeks ahead of a scheduled withdrawal of the majority of Zamastanian forces from the embattled South Adulan country.

Gladysynthian forces perform military drills inside exclusion zone
ANGENTA- Secretary of State Chantelle Carson condemned Gladysynthian military drills conducted within the exclusion zone along the Danaska River earlier on Saturday, saying that the exercises are in direct violation of the 2018-9B Line Treaty to which both countries signed. According to official sources, at least 30,000 Gladysynthian army and air force personel began and are continuing live-fire exercises within the exclusion zone, which sits within Gladysynthian territory but well within the agreed-upon and internationally recognized demilitarized zone. "We recognize and respect Gladysynthia's self-determination to carry out exercises and promote general readiness within its military, as all nations do," said Secretary Carson, "but these drills have breached the most simplified and widely understood elements of the 2018 agreements, and as such act as a violation to our mutually shared pursuit of peace between our two nations. The administration strongly advises Premiere Sarius Kent to order the end of these drills immediately, or our government will be forced to reimplement strict sanctions."

EUAN GUNN LAUNCHES 2024 PRESIDENTIAL BID

Gunn, a senior senator of the GLP, ran unsuccesfully in 2020.

POLITICAL CORRESPONDANT: Travis Canterbury (TCanterburyOfficial)
ANANICO - Senator Euan Gunn has announced his candidacy for President, becoming the first contender to President Sabine Armitage and the first member of the GLP to do so ahead of April 2024's party conference.

There was speculation on whether Gunn would make another presidential run, as hopeful contender Adam Wolffe (who also ran in 2020 before dropping out and endorsing Cain Blackwater, and in 2018 placing second to incumbant President Castovia) had confidently denied his intention to run again. Gunn represents Tregueux's 2nd Senatorial District in Congressional Hall since 2012. The Green Liberal Party elected Gunn to be the Majority Leader by his caucus for the 109th Congress (2020-22). He is known for his roles in extending voting rights and pressing gun-control legislation, which has put him at the forefront of the GLP's political spectrum. Considered by most political experts to be, as The Tofino Times once described him, "a classic liberal in the tradition of Cassious Castovias", Gunn once said that he wanted to create a "Melting-Pot Coalition" of various minority groups. Though heavily pro-LGBT, pro same-sex marriage, pro-gun control, and pro-cutting defense spending, Gunn is more conservative on his views of abortion, thanks in part to his religious heritage.

While most aspiring presidential candidates traditionally wait until February of election year to announce their intent to run, Gunn announced his candidacy to run for President of Zamastan on April 3rd, 2019, making him the first politician to enter the 2020 Zamastanian Presidential Election cycle. He ultimately lost to Atticus Moreau and fell to fourth place behind Sabine Armitage and Cain Blackwater.

Gunn was born in Tregueux, Tregueux, on September 18, 1972. He grew up in public housing as the eleventh of twelve children born to Verlene and Abraham Gunn, both Church of Zian pastors. His father served in the Zamastanian Army during the World War, where he learned automobile mechanics and welding, and subsequently opened a small car restoration business where he restored junked cars for resale. He graduated from Garrett Johnson High School in 1989 and attended the University of Tofino, from which he graduated cum laude in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. He then earned Master of Divinity, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from Tregueux Theological Seminary, a school affiliated with Tregueux University.

In the 1990s, Gunn served as the youth pastor and then assistant pastor at Ebbes Protestant Church in Anchorhead. While Gunn was pastor at Ebbes, the church declined to hire workfare recipients as part of organized opposition to then-mayor Shoddon Harbor's workfare program. The church also hosted Martin Saint-Yves on June 22, 1997, while Gunn was the youth pastor there. There is no evidence Gunn was involved in that decision. His 2012 Senate campaign refused to say whether Gunn attended the event.

In 2005, Gunn became senior pastor of the Central Protestant Church in Tregueux; he is the fifth and the youngest person to serve as Central's senior pastor since its founding.

As a Zamastanian senator, Gunn has embraced a progressive agenda, and has described himself as a "pro-choice pastor." In December 2011, during Gunn's Senate campaign, a group of 25 ministers wrote him an open letter asking him to reconsider his abortion stance, calling it "contrary to Christian teachings" and saying abortion disproportionately affects black Zamastanians. The Gunn campaign responded with a statement, writing that "Gunn believes a patient's room is too small a place for a woman, her doctor, and the government and that these are deeply personal health care decisions - not political ones." Gunn does support the continuation of the country's third-trimester abortion ban, however, while most of his GLP colleagues support its abolition. Gunn supports stricter gun control legislation. He also vocally supports expanding the allowance cap for Zamastan's immigration acceptance code.

The attack comes weeks before the scheduled withdrawal of Zamastanian and WEDA combat forces from Terehan.

CHIEF GLOBAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDANT: Aaron Dueabel (DueabelOfficial)
JATARAN - Six Zamastanian soldiers were killed when suspected ITAS gunman attacked a security checkpoint in the port city of Jataran.

"We regretfully announce that six of our soldiers and four Terehanian security troops were killed in an ambush in the eastern Jilahassa district of Jataran today," said Secretary of Defense Harold Casey. "While the fighting and frequency of casualties in Terehan has dramatically decreased since March, the unfortunate reality is that our forces still are in harms' way. Now the important thing is that ITAS is not the threat it used to be and this attack appears to have been the result of a small contained group, but that does not diminish the hardship and sorrow that we feel for those lost today and for their families."

The military identified the troops killed as:

  • SPC. Kenre Jeison (20) of Martro, Alenchon

  • PFC Samuel Rachie (24) of Woodmont, Tregueux

  • PFC Amanda Clyde-Everson (21) of Chilport, Tregueux

  • SGT Greggory Terusbe (23) of Pictou, Redeemer's Land

  • SGT Colin Vetra (28) of Pemberton, Pahl

  • SPC. Jarod Hanses (22) of Tenerias, Pahl

In May, the Congressional Hall agreed to a withdrawal date of September 8th, 2023 from Terehan. President Sabine Armitage signed the withdrawal date, stating in a press briefing shortly afterwards that the withdrawal "does not mean the end of our commitment to the Terehanian people." Terehan's democratic elections in May marked the key moment, said BCP Senate president pro-tempore Burhan Swanson, that the conservative-led upper house felt they would be comfortable with winding down military operations in the embattled South Adula nation, which has seen thousands killed in the nearly 10-month long conflict. Around 200 or so Zamastanian troops will remain in Terehan after the withdrawal, to continue providing security for international groups and the embassy, as well as to give training to the newly reorganized Terehanian military.

"We are confident that the situation in Terehan when it comes to opposition fighters has quelled to the point that we can safely and surely transfer the security situation to the new Terehanian government," President Armitage stated. "After prolonged discussions with our military command and our allies, we have decided that this is the best move. And along the way, we are not abandoning Terehan, we are still with them. Instead, this withdrawal is allowing them to be free as they always should have been, and to ultimately test and show the world the benefits of freedom and democracy."

The New Democracy Party, led by resistance hero Amir al Abadi, won 192 out of 300 chairs in the newly formed 300-seat parliament in May. President al Abadi supported the withdrawal announcement, saying "we are indebted to WEDA's efforts to help us in our fight against oppression, and their trust in us is mirrored with our trust in them. We are Terehan once again, and we have the chance to take the future in our own hands."

Most nations that were part of the original coalition in Terehan have since withdrawn, as the war has taken its toll on the public's opinion in every member state of WEDA. Currently, only the Zamastanian, Caspiaan, and SCB forces remain out of the original 17 countries that contributed troops. 877 Zamastanian troops have been killed in the conflict so far, with a total of around 1,400 WEDA troops killed in the war.

Gladysynthian forces perform military drills inside exclusion zone

The Zamastanian government condemned the exercises as being in direct violation of the 2018 Treaty of Mönus˙nthys.

GLOBAL AFFAIRS CORRESPONDANT: Alex Obrian (AObOfficial)
ANGENTA - Secretary of State Chantelle Carson condemned Gladysynthian military drills conducted within the exclusion zone along the Danaska River earlier on Saturday, saying that the exercises are in direct violation of the 2018-9B Line Treaty to which both countries signed.

The 2018-9B Line Treaty, otherwise simply known as the Treaty of Mönus˙nthys, was an important step in thawing decades-long tensions and conflict between Gladysynthia and Zamastan, and was signed only weeks after fighting in the Third Danaska War was halted due to a ceasfire. The treaty also lifted sanctions and made each nation pledge to remove military installations in key highlighted areas of the bordering territory along the Danaska River, and created pledges for both countries to adhere from any military drills in those zones. The treaty brought about a larger increase of hopeful intention towards a peacetime alliance between the two nations, however the political differences between Premiere Seswitch LaFlaunce and President Anya Bishop initially made many experts worry that the the fulfillment of much of the treaty would be lackluster. President Foley Sakzi expanded the terms of the treaty in November 2019, establishing bilateral military patrols and federal freedoms to natural gas and oil drilling in the Picotheca oil sands.

Premiere Seswitch LaFlaunce secretly sent wire messages to President Zacharias Castovia after the capture of Danaska and requested a ceasefire and negotiations towards an embargo lift. Castovia was immensely hesitant, and continued airstrikes on the capital of Mönus˙nthys. However, after being persuaded and pushed to ending the fighting by foreign leaders, such as President Nicholas Brennan of Laeral and Mab Darogan Waywffon Morgan of Cadair, the airstrikes ceased.

The first stage of negotiations involved the withdrawl of Zamastanian forces and equipment, which was completed in under 48 hours on November 8th, 2 days after fighting ended. Second, President Castovia flew into Danaska for a meeting with LaFlaunce, which laid out a plan to demilitarize the Northern Isle and Lower Danaska. Castovia also demanded full releases of Gladysynthian activity in Vulkaria. A full draft was signed on the 13th of November in Mönus˙nthys by President Castovia, Secretary of Defense Curtis Fondaden, Secretary of State Avi Tremblan, and Chief of Staff Emily Miranda, Premiere LaFlaunce, and other Gladysynthian officials. President Farhen Brooks of Vulkaria monitored the negotiations, in hopes to encourage a withdrawal of Gladysynthian special forces from Vulkaria's own civil conflict.

The treaty was implemented upon signing, with Gladysynthian and Zamastanian troops demilitarizing the agreed sixty percent of the border, which involved the removal of turrets and tank positions, though the existing minefield was kept in place. The embargoes starting lifting immediately after the signing, with few remaining in place to this day. Specifically, oil and luxury embargoes were fully lifted, and two of the sixteen border crossings were opened for eased screen passage. Within a week of the border restrictions being lifted, over 89,000 people crossed into Zamastan, with 26,000 crossing into Gladysynthia.

Following rapid industrialization, the collapse of its empire in the 1930s, and a devastating civil war in the immediate aftermath of the World War, Gladysynthia has been at odds with much of the international community, specifically because of territorial disputes with Zamastan. These disputes, which have seen conflict in the oil rich regions of Tetrazoa and Danaska in the first, second, and the third Danaska Wars, were faced with much scrutiny from the developed nations of the Coalition of Crown Albatross because of the Gladysynthian government's democratic backsliding and a shift towards authoritarianism. In the 21st century however, Gladysynthia has presented itself as a more moderate world presence, reopening diplomatic relations with other countries and pursuing democratic reforms.

Government says Ebola crisis is now over
Phou government officials have stated that the Ebola epidemic in the country, which began in September 2022, has ended, with no cases having been detected for the past two weeks. Since the high-contagious disease reached the nation last year from tourists traveling from Buckingla, more than 7,000 people had died, making it one of the worst known outbreaks of the disease in history. The more than 20,000 total cases detected over the course of the past year had crippled and closed off Phou to the international community. According to Phou's Ministry of Health, people under quarantine in Phou, both in their own homes or in quarantine facilities, can now freely go out in public, though practicing social distancing and wearing face masks is recommended. The Coalition Health Organization in October 2022 had described the outbreak as a "wakeup call," showing that outbreaks can happen anywhere.

Phou confirms plan to resume whale hunt in Antartique
Phou's chief whaling negotiator confirmed that its ships would return to the Antartique this year, despite a call by global regulators to provide more evidence that the hunt has a scientific purpose. Mr Pho Sueka said the whole debate about whether or not Phou should be killing the mammals had long since moved away from science and into politics. The scientific committee of the CCA's Whaling Commission said on Friday that Phou had failed to give enough detail to explain why it wanted to kill almost 4,000 minke whales in the Antartique over the next 12 years.

However, the trip has been marred in controversy, due to an encroachment of East Chanchajilla's airspace by Timerian military aircraft nearly two years ago during the conflict in then-Birat, which has since been absorbed into the Chanchajillan republic. A spokesperson for Raso's delegation stated that the President would issue a formal apology for the encroachments, which were met at the time with a dicey political back and forth between the two governments and a distancing of diplomacy from East Chanchajilla's WEDA partners.

New Flag Officially Unveiled

After the recent flag referendum, in which Pongians voted to change the old "Anchor Mountain" Flag, they had the option to choose a new flag for the Federation of Pongi.

For the first time since independence, the flag has no communist influences from anyone in the PM's office. The new flag represents the nation's unconventionality by surrounding the classic navy blue with a pink anchor, which represents the people and the stability of the nation. The orange sides represent the peninsulas on which the flag was based upon; along with the navy ensign used in previous flags, honouring the past and seas. A flag raising was held on the 31st of July, which had multiple famous Pongians, indigenous peoples and international figures. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the nation.

Special Election Called In Shock

On July 29, the government formally dissolved after massive disagreements on a new public housing and education bill.

The coalition hangs on in spite of a disaster as the left and nationals vote against the new bill. Rintt has tried to use executive powers to move the proposal forward, which allocates 34 Billion dollars to new social housing. The right wing of the Patriot Party shot it down quickly, calling it a "waste of money" and will bring the nation "further into debt", while the Labour party argue that social housing is needed due to the short supply, and that more funding should be allocated instead of defence, which the nation has allocated lots of money to.

The collapse of parliament was also brought on by the heavy corruption scandal involving Patriots/Nationals party member Lukas Barenn and giant sexual harassment allegations. Members of his party have stepped forward accusing Barenn of acting inappropriately when Parliament was in session.

If convicted, he will face over 20 years in prison, as for the crimes of Assault and Battery over multiple occasions. This is supported by the rest of the chamber, as found out Former Nationals Leader Daniel Tergjihy participated in hiding such conduct. Their trials will be in September as per widely reported.

The special election will be hosted on August 18 and will use the current electoral boundaries, along with all 60 senate seats up for grabs.

Leaders Discuss New Electric Cargo Ship Designs

On July 31st, Rintt and President of Bentho, Juan Carlos Caballero met up to announce a new joint venture between the two nations for small electric cargo ships. This new design will be groundbreaking within CCA, using an advanced prototype of lithium-sodium ion batteries, revolutionising environmental consciousness as two climate leaders in Iearth.

This also marks Caballero's first trip as Bentho President to Pongi, which includes the mentioned flag raising ceremony. He will tour the nation, stopping by in Monsvallis and Rygerrof City, before moving up the coast towards Rintt's hometown. Caballero will also visit the large Benthenese population living in the nation. Rintt visited Bentho on a landmark new free trade deal, along with a new embassy opening in June this year.
