I certainly did read through all of that. Fascinating as ever, please do keep it coming.

This post set me thinking about the myth of human exceptionalism. It's a myth because you're right, our actions as a species are comparable to those of bacteria in a petri dish or, as I like to put it, the brewer's yeast that gorges itself on sugar before being poisoned by the alcohol that is its waste product. Individuals might make dramatic life changes - become vegan, go live in an ashram - but they're statistical outliers and populations don't. In the time that we've understood climate change we haven't moderated our behaviour, we've accelerated and we continue to do so. We know now about the changes that have happened during the pandemic as pollution reduces and wildlife is emboldened, but we'll be back at full throttle regardless as soon as possible. As a species we're in key ways no different to bacteria.

In the Graeco-Roman myths humanity was created with fire stolen from the gods, while in Judeo-Christianity we were made in the image of God to have dominion over the earth. In the new secular humanism this core belief is retained in the form of the holy trinity of consciousness, free will and morality (whatever those mean), uniquely present in us, the story goes, and lacking in the rest of the planet. But we aren't special, and though we can exercise dominion over the planet for a while we're not exempt from the consequences. We aren't even the species that's done most to change the earth, that honour surely going to the microorganisms that oxygenated the primordial atmosphere. Nor do we need to be the final word. The planet is likely to remain habitable for a future span equal to the time since the first vertebrates appeared, so there's time yet for something new.

Many thanks to Verdant Haven for the opportunity to serve as Game Warden. I have something planned, but as many people no longer read the whole RMB I'd like to publicise it by means of a regional telegram, so I'll wait until I can be officially appointed by the founder and given communication authority. I appreciate that, things being as they are, this could be a while.

Planet building is harder than I thought it would be, and i put probably too much effort into making a nice drawing for an ‘old’ style map for my planet, but it has helped me visualise it better. Doing lots of maths to get the statistics vaguely matching isn’t that fun and i’m scared to mess with things too much because I don’t know what it’ll do and i also don’t just want to copy everything but i find making lore and drawing maps quite fun so that’s good.

It's the easiest poll you'll ever have to answer.

Yup. Maths. Why did it have to be maths.

For once your poll actually has some realistic value (assuming you answered “no means no”, which most of you did)! Well done, Auphelia! And no, before you ask, we still will not worship you.

In time, my dear. In time.

And no, I did not expect there would be so many blatantly awful people here to answer the poll. It was foolish of me to presume people were reasonable and not completely terrible, or would at least have the good sense to pretend for the few seconds it would take to vote in the poll.

Alas, it was not to be.

The last couple of days, my city has been gradually tearing itself apart. Relentlessly, and with a kind of sad desperation. The downtown is burned and looted, being the central location for the protests, and because that's where wealth accumulation is most visible and so more of a temptation. Now the looting and burning has spread out to the mostly impoverished surrounding neighborhoods, and they are absolutely devastated.

It was an incredible thing to observe: blind emotion exploding from the populace, screaming out for change, only to be followed later and eventually overtaken by the baser but more tactile needs and desires inflicted by poverty.

I thankfully live in a neighborhood relatively unaffected by anything serious. And I did not join the protests, even when, early on, they seemed like they might be peaceful, as I am quite afraid of catching the coronavirus (and, I suppose, because I am a coward). Yet somehow I still feel exhausted by it all. From the almost obsessive need to follow the events as they transpired, and the constant worry about what might happen next, as well as a kind of morbid fascination about the extremes that humans are capable of.

When I think about the way George Floyd died, I begin to feel sick to my stomach. But when I think about what's happened -- and is still happening -- to my city, I feel a great sadness, too.

For anyone interested, here's a little album I put together of some of the more interesting photos I've come across:

I just wanted to make something quick and easy, so I took the Aumeltopia format and ran with it, adding in elements from my own usual flag as well and just changing around the colours and embellishing.

I'm currently busy planning and making a fishing game. Currently on character drawing with my OpenTsuri bachelorettes (I deleted the OpenTsuri character factbook entry for development of character drawings). Any ideas?

(This is why I'm not much active this time)

OpenTsuri is a fishing-adventure-RPG game based on River King series (mostly Nushi Tsuri Adventure: Kite no Bouken) with some touch of Harvest Moon series. The game is all about fishing and meeting ethnic groups all across the Banahaw, a planet similar to Earth.

EDIT: I want to also add that my birthday is going near.
